Chapter 40: Mistakes Were Made
*Laurance's POV*
Of course he's here... I don't think Garroth's spotted him, yet.
Good...
What the Hell, are Gene and his goons, doing at a dance?
They're up to something...
"Laurance? Are you alright?" Garroth looked up at me, clearly worried. "You were kind of staring off into space. You feeling okay?"
"Hm?" I looked down at Garroth, giving a pseudo smile. "Oh, I'm fine, Love. Say, let's go get some sweets! I saw some cupcakes at the dessert bar!"
"O-okay!" Garroth nodded, trailing behind me.
I lead him over to the dessert bar. Garroth's eyes lit up, as he saw the large variety of sweets. The first thing he grabbed, was a cupcake, before he turned to look at me.
"It's free, Sweetheart. I asked Aphmau. You can have whatever you'd like. Just, don't take everything," I winked at him, and a small blush appeared on his cheeks.
"I-I'm fine w-with j-just the one," Garroth smiled, giggling a little.
"Hey, you fine by yourself for a few minutes? I want to go ask Dante something."
"S-sure!" Garroth nodded, going back to admiring his cupcake.
I nodded back, going to find Dante. He was in a group, of him, Vylad, Travis and Zane. Wait, Zane?! What was he doing here? This is definitely not his scene. Especially being around Travis and Dante.
"Hey, Laurance! Glad to see you here!" Travis exclaimed, taking a sip of his punch. "Where's Garroth?"
"He doesn't have to be with me every second of the day," I retorted. "But, he's at the dessert bar."
"There's a dessert bar?!" I could see Zane's blue eye light up.
"Uh, yeah," Travis answered. "It's just over there."
"Welp, I'm done here. See you never, losers," Zane strolled off, to the direction Travis was pointing.
"Hey, Laurance! It's been a while," Vylad smiled at me, outstretching his hand to me.
"Nice to see you, Vylad," I took his hand, shaking it. "So, how are you guys doing?" I gestured between Vylad and Dante.
"What can be better, than being around your amazing fiancé?" Dante wrapped his arm around Vylad's waist, leaning his head on his.
"D'aww, you two are adorable," I cooed. "But, Vylad, do you mind if I steal Dante for just a moment? I need to talk to him about something."
"Sure," Vylad smiled.
"I'm glad I had a say, in you giving me away, Vylad," Dante rolled his eyes, earning a giggle from Vylad.
I grabbed Dante's wrist, pulling him away from Vylad and Travis. I stopped, when we were in a semi-private area. I turned off my gleeful facadę, glaring at Dante.
"What?" Dante rose an eyebrow at me.
"Did you invite Gene here?!" I snarled.
Dante's face grew red, and he hesitantly nodded. I gritted my teeth, narrowing my eyes at him.
"Why?!"
"Because, he's my big brother."
I sighed, crossing my arms, and shaking my head. "Do you know what went on with Gene and Garroth in Middle School?"
"Something went on between Gene and Garroth?"
Dante, I am this close to slapping you.
"Yeah, something did happen," I frowned. "Garroth used to date Gene. Did you know that?!"
"Really?!" His eyes widened.
"Yeah, uh-huh," I rolled my eyes. "I just found out about it, not too long ago. They hid that one very well, like you and Vylad. But, that's beside the point. The reason I'm bringing this up, is because I don't want Gene around Garroth. You get what I'm putting down here?"
Dante bit his lip, as he looked behind me. "K-kind of a little late for that..."
*Gene's POV*
Now is my chance.
"Hey~" I chirped, leaning against the dessert bar.
The blonde boy's head shot up, and he turned to face me. His eyes widened, and he backed up a little. He bit his lip nervously, his blue eyes not wavering.
"G-Gene...y-you're here?!"
"Hey, Ro'Meave. What's a cutie like you, doing alone at a place like this?" I smirked, looking him up and down.
"I-I thought I t-told you, to l-leave m-me alone...I a-am d-done with you!" He balled his fists.
Aww, he's like a Chihuahua. Tiny, yet fierce.
"No need to yell, Ro'Meave. We're in public~"
His face turned red, probably out of anger. Perfect. This is where I want to get him.
"Go away, Gene!" He snapped.
I stepped closer to the tiny ball of fire, grinning. He didn't move, just stared up at me with balled fists.
"Aww, come on Ro'Meave~"
"Leave him alone," a voice snapped from behind me.
Everything's falling into place.
*Laurance's POV*
"Leave him alone."
Gene turned around, facing me. He had a dumb grin on, and he crossed his arms.
"Lookie who showed up," Gene looked me up and down.
"Of course I'm going to show up, when you are ignoring my boyfriend's request for you to leave him alone," I glared at Gene.
"Your boyfriend, eh?" Gene rose an eyebrow, smirking.
I noticed Garroth, shifting behind Gene. He was blushing madly, his hands together, and rocking back and forth. Oh dear...
"L-Laurance...it's f-fine, I-I can h-handle t-this myself..," Garroth bit his lip, looking down.
"Listen to Ro'Meave, he has common sense, boy," Gene spat at me. "Not only is he smart, but he's real cute, ain't he?"
That's when I snapped.
I balled my fists, glaring at Gene. I could tell he was slightly taken aback by my appearance. Garroth was as well. He backed up a little, shaking his head.
I'm sorry, Garroth...but I have to break my promise...
I grabbed Gene's collar, lifting him up. I hit him against the nearest wall, and he let out a small yelp of pain. I could hear Garroth's cries from behind me, but I blocked them out. First thing I needed to worry about, was this complete jerk Gene.
I lifted my fist, connecting it with Gene's cheek. The room filled with gasps, and yelling- but all of my attention was on Gene. He looked down at me, smirking.
Why?
"You know, what?" Gene chuckled a little. "You don't know what actually happened around the time Garroth and I dated, do you?"
"All I care about now, is how damn red my knuckles are going to be- after I beat you to a bloody pulp!" I growled, hitting Gene once again.
Small amounts of blood trickled from the side wound I created. I cursed under my breath, locking eyes with Gene. Why the Hell, is he still smirking?!
Gene stayed silent. So, I punched him in the gut. He let out a small sound of pain, but he was still smirking! I don't understand. What is he going to gain out of this?
That's when it hit me...
"Laurance!" Garroth's voice finally broke through the blockade I put up. "Laurance, stop!"
I let go of Gene, allowing his body to fall to the floor. I cursed again, turning to face Garroth. His cheeks were stained with tears, and he held a hand over his mouth.
Oh dear Irene...
*Gene's POV*
"Gene, you alright?!" Zenix called, running over with Sasha.
"I'm fine. Help me up, though," I held out my hand.
Zenix grabbed it, pulling me to my feet. Sasha looked me over, actually seeming concerned.
"You sure you're okay? You took quite a beating," Sasha frowned.
"Yeah, I'll be alright. I think we should get going home, though," I chuckled a little, paining searing through my chest.
"Okay, let's help you to the car," Zenix gestured Sasha to grab my other hand.
Both of them lead me out of the place, to our car. Once we arrived, I held a hand to my cheek- getting in the backseat. Sasha took driver's, and Zenix took passenger's.
"So, Gene...what went on back there?" Zenix turned around to face me, as we pulled out of the parking lot.
"The igniting of our new plan," I smirked at him. "Just wait...you'll see what's going to happen, soon enough.
*Garroth's POV*
Sasha and Zenix were helping Gene out the door, and Laurance stood there. His eyes were wild, and he looked like a crazed mad-man. Blood trickled from his knuckles, and anger laced his aura.
This is not the man I've fallen in love with...
"Laurance, what the Hell was that?! You promised me, that you wouldn't hurt Gene!" I could feel the tears streaming down my face.
"Garroth...I..," he trailed off, looking down at his still balled fist.
"W-why..?" I sniffled, wiping my eyes.
People were staring at the scene that was unfolding, and I felt myself getting uneasy. I've never been a fan of big crowds. The scampering of feet were heard, and someone grabbed my shoulders.
Not caring who it was, I allowed them to embrace me in a hug. It was then I realized, it was Aphmau. Her stature gave it away.
"Garroth, calm down..," she whispered, hugging me tighter.
I just stood there, crying. Memories of Middle School came flushing back, making me tear up more.
"Nobody cares about you..."
"Pathetic..."
I felt a strong grip on my shoulder, followed by a voice, "Garroth..."
Instantly recognizing it as Laurance, I turned my head to look at him. Aphmau let go of me, folding her arms over her chest.
"Want me to take you home, Garroth?"
"N-no...i-it's fine..," I reassured her. I looked back up at Laurance, frowning. "Y-you broke so m-many promises...a l-lot of mistakes were made. I-I am n-not happy with y-you..."
"I'm so sorry..," Laurance muttered, dropping his hand.
"S-sorry's not gonna c-cut it..," I sighed. "I c-can't deal with this r-right now...I'm g-going home, s-so don't follow me r-right away... I w-want to be alone f-for a little while..."
"I understand..," Laurance sighed, folding his arms over his chest.
I pushed past the crowd, making my way out the door of the building. I folded my arms over my chest, shivering, beginning my walk home.
He broke so many promises, within mere moments...
It's going to take a lot more than a simple kiss, to get over this one...
