15. Idiot

Xeria's P.O.V

"Your door is wide open; how careless are you, young madam?" Aunt Nora chides me.

Yes, why not? The first thing she has to do after arriving here is to scold me. Khaos looks back at me, perplexed.

"You see, I'm quite busy here, Aunt Nora." This is so embarrassing. What have I gotten myself into?

"Young people these days." She huffs, and I hear her footsteps as she leaves us alone.

Sighing, I turn my attention back to the drunken problem.

"Now are you in your senses?" I ask him, "Maybe." He groans, trying to sit up.

"Aye no!"

He sits up, not knowing that I'm sitting on him, and pushes me down, my hair still tangled.

Trying to maintain balance, we both roll down the couch, and again, I'm on top of him.

"Just wait." Supporting myself with my hands, I try to pull up.

"We're tangled." he murmurs, looking at the lapel pin.

"Let me remove it." he says, looking up, and his eyes lock with mine. I stare back, looking closer.

His skin is really nice; is he into skin care too? His lips are also perfect and look soft.

"Woof!"

"Go ahead." I make more space between us so that he can remove the pin. With great difficulty, he finally removes the pin, and I sit up on the couch with the pin hanging down on my hair.

"Where exactly you were?" I ask him, as he also gets up and massages his forehead with his fingers.

"Somewhere." He replies vaguely. If it weren't for Aunt Nora, I would have let him off the hook, but with her being here, there's no option for that.

"Khaos, please go and take a shower; we have to meet Aunt Nora too; hurry up!" I urge him, but he is just too drunk for that.

Sitting in front of him, I cup his cheeks with my hands and make him look at me forcefully. Oh, he has just a little but some amount of fat on his face.

"Go and take a shower, right now!" I pout and order him, but he leans his face in my hands and sort of relaxes.

He takes my hand and intertwines his fingers with mine.

"I made a horrible mistake." He mumbles, his eyes and nose turning red.

"At work?" I ask him, bending his hand in his direction, and he just gives me a dumbfounded look.

"Try to correct them, but first go and take a shower." I snap my fingers on his forehead, hurting my own fingers.

Just how strong is his head? Supporting him to stand up, I take him to his room and stuff him in the shower.

After Khaos was done with his shower, I gave him some aspirin to alleviate his headache. There is no rest for him right now.

Who asked him to go and get drunk on the first day of our marriage?

Sitting at the dining table across from Aunt Nora, she examines us with a piercing gaze.

"Congratulations to you two." She says, crossing her hands on the table.

"Khaos, she is the housekeeper from now on." I inform him, looking at him.

"Thank you, Aunt Nora." He says, recognizing her with a smile.

"I see you still have your pet here with you; you should have left him at your parents' house." Looking at Potato, she rolls her eyes.

Well, she received her first rabies shot because of him alone, so the unlikeliness is quite understandable.

"He is like my little brother; I can't stand to separate myself from him." tapping my fingers on the table, I answer her.

"Is Mr. Khaos fine with this arrangement?" and Khaos looks at me.

"Why wouldn't he be?" I retort.

"Yes, after all, you'll be moving in with him after a madam recovers, and young madam, I'm your permanent housekeeper; that means even at your husband's house." and with that, she drops one final bomb.

"But is Mr. Khaos fine with this arrangement?" I try to imitate Aunt Nora.

"Madam has already informed him, and he agreed to it," Aunt Nora smirks, and I look at Khoas, who is finding this conversation completely irrelevant akd is spaced out.

"Then it is resolved; I will start the work; let me know if you two need anything." Standing up, Aunt Nora picks up the apron and begins her work.

What work?

"Why do you always do this?" pulling down the duvet, I ask Khaos, who just groans in response.

After our little introduction with Aunt Nora, Khaos left to have a rest, and I followed after him to ask why is he being so self-absorbed.

"You didn't even bother asking me?" I look down at his face while he shifts in bed.

"Beryl, maybe I was drunk when she called me." He replies, opening his piercing gray eyes.

"You know, it's not about you anymore; it's about us, the two of us." Brushing my fingers through my hair, I sit down beside him.

"You will be sleeping on the sofa from now on." Nudging him on the shoulder, I tell him, my hair brushing on his face.

"Why?" He asks, shooting up.

"Why, what? You can't sleep in the guest room because of Aunt Nora, and as your punishment, you can't sleep on the bed, so sofa; otherwise, the floor isn't a bad option either." Now that I think of it, it's a good way to do these small things in order to get back at him.

"What did the oncologist say?" He asks, facing me.

Remembering the doctor say that it's small cell carcinoma and mom is just putting up on a tough act, my facade also slips.

"She has started her chemo, and I know that she's going to be fine, so it's ok, I guess." Averting my gaze, I hug my legs close to my chest.

"Don't worry, Beryl. I myself appointed the doctor for your mom; today I wasn't able to accompany you, but tomorrow for sure I will come." And I look back at him. He appointed the doctor.

"But I don't appreciate you hiding and lying your way through all this; there is no trust. Khaos, our foundation is fragile. I don't know how long it will take before all of this just falls apart." getting out of bed, I walk out of the room.

Sitting by the bay window in the hall, I look at the twinkling night sky.

Should I just forgive him and accept everything as it is?

Or should I give him a taste of his own medicine?

But what's the point of all this?

What's done is done. But it hurts me when I think that I am just someone he wanted, and he got things his way.

What about me?

What about what I want?

I'm just getting pushed around. Does he even value me?

"Young madam," Aunt Nora says, sitting in front of me.

"Yes?" I ask her.

"Now what is it?" She really has so many tricks up her sleeve.

"You take after madam in terms of stubbornness." She replies with a smile.

Well, that's true. Many times, people have made me acknowledge this fact.

"It's stage three, young madam, and she never even gave you a single hint of her illness; she must have seen something in this young man that made her choose him as your life partner, and you know your mother has taken every decision concerning you with the utmost caution. Give him a chance and yourself too." She continues, putting her hand on mine.

"Why do you expect so much of me, and am I obligated to meet all of your expectations?"

"Why is that?" I ask, tilting my head to look at her.

"You have never failed us in any way; perhaps because of that, we know that it is too much for you, but that is the way it is; you must adjust and move on." She shrugs.

I shake my head slowly and hum.

This is my fault too. Well, whatever, she's not totally wrong.

After putting Potato to sleep, I go to my room to see Khaos sleeping on the sofa.

He's being obedient now; good for him. Though he looks uncomfortable, he must sleep there.

Walking towards him, I look at him. He looks so peaceful and innocent when he's asleep.

I just stand there for a while and look at him, examining his features.

Am I a pervert?

No!

"No, you aren't a pervert." Khaos smiles, shocking me with his eyes still shut.

What is with his mind reading?

"Why are you pretending to be asleep?" I step back, looking away.

"I was indeed sleeping, but then I felt someone drilling holes in my face with their gaze." He says, bending his head backwards to look at me.

"What are you, a superhuman? I felt someone drilling holes." I imitate him, and he just laughs.

"Whatever, just sleep." As I climb on the bed, I switch off the lights.

"It's ok, I didn't mind. Sleep well, Beryl," he trills, shifting on the sofa.

"Idiot." I huff, drifting into sleep.
