So, May mentioned how Sawyer's Kantoian name was Shōta. I'm gonna expand on it here. Kanto, the Orange Islands, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh all speak the same language, Kantoian (Japanese). They all do so because at one point Kanto owned all of these lands. Hisui was Sinnoh before it was taken over by Kanto, and spoke Hisuian. Hoenn, Johto, and the Orange Islands also had native languages, and all but the one in the Orange Islands are extinct. Most people in the world, including these regions, also speak Galarian (English).
