Rapunzel blinked in confusion at the Pokémon Mulan had sent out. It was about waist-high, it was blue and black, and resembled something like a dog, except it walked on two legs instead of four. It had two long droopy black restraints that were connected to a black face mask, short black legs, and a long blue tail. Rapunzel didn't recognize it, but Belle did.
"When the heck did you get a Riolu!?" the girl dressed in blue-and-white exclaimed, her Elekid standing by her side with crossed arms and making electricity jump between his antennae. He was eager to see how this battle would proceed.
"She's always had him. Riolu was actually the first Pokémon that chose Mulan at the Academy, and both of them have been in the top ranks for Best Battler," Ariel explained while taking a seat on the ground near the Lake, far enough away from the makeshift battlefield as Belle sat down with her, Ariel's Abra teleporting into his Trainer's lap for a nap as she rolled her eyes, but allowed him to stay there to sleep nonetheless.
Rapunzel gulped at that information, a little worried now, but wouldn't let her confidence be deterred by it. The Riolu had his arms crossed and eyes closed, waiting patiently for a command from his Trainer. Mulan smirked. She could trust her Riolu. She always has. "Riolu," Mulan called, and the Riolu opened it's clear amber eyes as they settled onto the Seel before it.
Seel hopped away and hid behind Rapunzel's legs as the Trainer sighed and bent down to her new Pokémon's height. "Hey, don't be afraid," she comforted him, and stroked his head with a smile. "As long as you believe in yourself, we're sure to win. Just try your best, okay?" Seel glanced back over at the very intimidating Riolu, and then back at his Trainer, before he nodded and hopped back onto the makeshift battlefield.
"Are you ready now?" Mulan asked with crossed arms, matching her Riolu's stance.
Rapunzel straightened up and took a stance. "You bet I am."
Mulan smirked. "Let's see what you got."
Rapunzel smiled widely. "Seel, use Headbutt!" Seel sped forward and jumped up into the air before pointing his head down towards the Riolu so that his horn could cause the most damage.
"Riolu. Counter."
Riolu closed his eyes as a thin rainbow of light glowed around his body, and Seel's attack was deflected by that light. Seel bounced backwards and flipped over onto his stomach as he awaited another command.
Punzie growled in frustration. "Seel, Aqua Jet!"
Seel immediately responded by diving into the Lake water, Riolu jumping onto a rock that was sticking out of the Lake's surface and waited for Seel to appear. The rush of water came at Riolu fast, and struck him dead center as he fell into the water with a splash. Rapunzel cheered as Seel resurfaced and clapped his flippers together. "We did it!" Rapunzel cheered.
"Riolu. Cross Chop."
Rapunzel stopped celebrating as the water in the Lake began to bubble and ripple until Riolu jumped out of the water and back onto the rock he had perched on earlier. Punzie gaped. She was certain that attack had knocked him out. Riolu crossed his arms in an 'X' shape and then sped across the water towards Seel who still had his head bobbing above the Lake, and jumped up as his arms glowed with a dark blue light before he swung both his arms outwards, sending the dark blue 'X'-shaped Cross Chop attack towards Seel.
Rapunzel panicked and quickly shouted, "Icy Wind!"
Seel immediately opened his mouth at the attack and blew out a large gust of cold wind that made everyone shiver except for Mulan and Riolu, who had jumped back onto land after his attack had been frozen over and completely destroyed. "Yeah! Nice job, Seel!"
"Seel! Seel!" Seel clapped his flippers together, and Mulan uncrossed her arms as she placed one hand on her hip.
"Not bad for a Pokémon you just caught," Mulan commented, and her Riolu crossed his arms once again, waiting for another command from his Trainer.
"Thanks. That Riolu of yours isn't too bad, either," Rapunzel said with a smile.
Mulan nodded before turning back to her Riolu. "Riolu. Aura Sphere."
"Ri," Riolu finally spoke, and curved his paws into a circle as an aqua blue light glowed within his palms.
"Get ready, Seel," Rapunzel mumbled to her Pokémon, who had decided to stay in the water where he was at an advantage.
"Ri. . .olu!" Riolu cried while pushing his paws forward, and the aqua blue ball of light soared towards the water where Seel resided.
"Now, Seel, Ice Shard!"
Seel directed his small horn at the attack and sent several tiny shards of ice towards the aqua blue ball of light, piercing it straight through, but the ball only grew bigger with each shard of ice it came in contact with, and didn't stop in it's path. The Aura Sphere attack hit Seel straight on as the water around him exploded and blew up into the air, taking Seel along with it.
"Seel!" Rapunzel cried, and searched for her Pokémon when he finally came plummeting back down, and she raced forward to catch him in her arms, diving to the ground so that he wouldn't hurt himself and cradling him in her arms as he tried weakly to move. "Seel, don't try to move. You did your best," Rapunzel smiled down at her new Pokémon. "I'm proud of you. You deserve a nice long rest." Rapunzel held out his Pokéball and returned the Sea Lion Pokémon in a flash of red light before sticking it back to her belt and carefully getting back on her feet, Poliwhirl running up to help her after standing on the sidelines with Belle and Ariel.
"Riolu? What's wrong?" Rapunzel glanced over at Mulan who was kneeling beside her Riolu worriedly. Apparently, that attack had taken a lot out of him and forced him down onto one knee, one fisted paw on the ground to help keep himself upright as he breathed heavily through his mouth, eyes closed in pain and sweat coating his black-and-blue fur from exhaustion. "I know that attack was a lot to ask of you since only a Lucario can handle an Aura Sphere like that, but," Riolu opened his amber eyes and glanced over at his Trainer, who smiled lovingly down at him, "I'm proud of you anyway. You deserve a nice long rest." Mulan lifted Riolu's Pokéball from her belt and aimed it at him, when he suddenly swatted it out of her hand and she gasped. "Riolu-" Riolu smiled at her then, before he collapsed onto his stomach and began to glow a bright white.
Mulan jumped back in surprise, her hand landing on the discarded Pokéball and held it to her chest as a comfort. Belle, Ariel, and Rapunzel all stared in awe as Riolu's form grew twice his size and developed spikes on each of his hands and on his chest, part of his fur growing yellow along the chest, his two normal face mask restraints multiplying until there was four now, and his ears grew larger. His tail formed an upside down blue spike, and it looked like he had a sort of armored black fur now. Riolu finally stopped glowing, and all four girls and their Pokémon stared down at the newly Evolved Riolu.
"L-Lucario?" Mulan stuttered out, and Lucario's amber eyes fluttered open as he pushed himself up to his knees and looked around him, his bright amber eyes finally landing on his Trainer. Lucario pushed himself up to his feet and held out a spiked paw for Mulan to take. Mulan hesitantly took it, and her Pokémon helped her up to her feet, his height now matching her own. "Y-you Evolved!" Mulan exclaimed, and a small smile tugged at her lips until she was full-on grinning. "I can't believe it! You actually Evolved!" Mulan launched herself at her Pokémon as he staggered back in surprise from the fierce hug, Mulan laughing at the joy of her first Pokémon Evolving.
"Is it a bad thing that I Evolved?" a voice asked, and Mulan gasped while pulling away from her Pokemon and looked him over for any sign of what she had heard.
"Did you just-?"
Lucario nodded. "I did." Mulan gasped once again. "I have wanted to speak to you for years now, but was unable to, for I had no experience for me to Evolve, until I met you." Lucario nodded at his Trainer solemnly. "I am forever grateful by Training alongside you, and all the victories we have achieved. I am in your debt." Lucario closed his eyes and fisted his right paw over his chest, bowing towards Mulan as he did.
Mulan blinked before smiling once again and returned the bow. "It was an honor. Lucario," Mulan chuckled at saying her Pokémon's new name, and turned to face the others.
"That is so cool! A Pokémon that can talk! I so envy you, Mulan!" Punzie commented, and Poliwhirl hopped up and down beside her in excitement.
Belle giggled while Elekid looked on, seemingly jealous of not being in a battle or Evolving for his Trainer. "It's alright, Elekid. You'll get your chance someday," Belle comforted him, and he merely turned his head away from her. Belle put a hand to her cheek and sighed.
"Me, too! I can't wait for Abra to Evolve!" Ariel said excitedly, and leaned her head on top of Abra's--who was still sitting in her lap--when he suddenly teleported onto the rock out on the water, causing Ariel to get a mouthful of dirt as she fell face first on the ground. "Abra!" Ariel complained while spitting out dirt, and the others laughed.
"Well, looks like we had two Evolutions today, huh, Mulan?" Rapunzel grinned over at the Fighting-Type Trainer as Mulan glanced over at her Lucario.
Mulan grinned. "I'll say."
"Hey! I just had an awesome idea!" Ariel shouted suddenly, and smiled widely up at the others. "How about we all travel together?" All four girls glanced at one another.
Mulan grinned and folded her arms as her new Lucario matched his Trainer's stance, and smiled. "Sounds like a plan."
