Sokeefe-2#-If Sophie's parents were elves- Part 1:

(AN: The idea of this story came from xXMarinaDeSantisXx 's book 'Overlooked Love' which I totally recommend.)

"Soybean!"
Sophie rolled her eyes at her dads silly nickname for her.
"Yeah, Dad?!" She called back, grabbing her backpack then dodging moving boxes as she hurried down the stairs.
She reached the bottom and skipped into the living room.
Her parents stood in front of the front door.

They looked so happy and sad at the same time.
It was Sophie's first day of her last year of school.
She was now a senior in high school.
They had just moved to Chicago from LA. It was just......to robust out there, her parents, Dr William and Dr Emma Foster, had said.
To much attention.
They were doctors, but liked working in the shadows.
Out of sight out of mind, they said.

Emma Foster, looking at her almost grown baby girl, wiped a tear from her cheek and pulled her daughter into a tight embrace.
"We love you, Honey."
She choked out.
Sophie pulled from the embrace and stared hard at her parents.
"Why are you acting like this is the last time I'm gonna see you?"
She growled with a clenched jaw.

Her dad chuckled.
"We aren't, Soybean. Or at least we aren't meaning too. Your just..... growing up. Its making us old!"
Sophie rolled her eyes and smirked.
"Sure, Dad."
The three shared a loving hug, before Sophie kissed them goodbye and walked out the door.

She walked down the steps and looked back at their two story yellow house with white trim.
So pretty.
She thought, smiling.
"Nice hoodie."
Sophie jumped and turned to look at the speaker.
A large older man sat in a lawn chair in the next yard over.
Sophie swallowed.
"Uh thanks." She said nervously, glancing down at her light purple Old Navy hoodie.

"You must be Sophie." He said.
Sophie about choked.
"Uh yeah. How'd you know?"
The man smirked.
"I met your parents yesterday."
Relief flooded her and she smiled.
"Oh! Okay. Well, I gotta get to school. Nice to meet you, Mr-"
She broke off realizing she didn't know his name.
"Forkle. Errol Forkle." He input.

Sophie bit her lip.
"Mr Forkle."
Then she waved awkwardly and hurried over to her black Ford Fusion.
She opened the door and slid into the seat, but before she could even start the car, a face appeared at her window and she took in a sharp breath.
"Yes?" She asked, rolling down the window.
"You be careful driving now."
Mr Forkle said.
Completely freaked, Sophie nodded and quickly pulled from the driveway.
"Weird old man." She muttered before turning the radio up.

After a few miles of driving, she saw it.
The school she was about to be attending, Fenwick High.
Feeling a little overwhelmed, Sophie parked her car in the parking lot, grabbed her book bag from the backseat, and headed toward the front door. Taking a deep breath she stepped over the threshold and collided right into a tall brown haired boy with blonde hair and bright green eyes.
"Oh my word! I am SOOOO sorry!"
Sophie gasped.
The boy smirked and she blushed, realizing how hot he was.
"It's fine." He said, quickly standing and offering her his hand.
She tentatively took it, praying her hand wouldn't be sweaty, and he pulled her to her feet.

"I'm Jack, by the way. Are you knew here?" He asked.
Sophie tucked her hair behind one ear and gave a half smile.
"I'm Sophie and yes, This is my first day."
Jack smiled and opened his mouth to say something, but he was cut off by a pretty girl with a head full of light brown curls.
"Jackson..." she growled.
"Oh! And this is my girlfriend, Breanne." He said, taking the girls hand.
Sophie smiled at the girl, but Breanne barely glanced her way.
"Come on, Babe! We need to catch up with the others."
Breanne said cooly, pulling him towards the school doors.
Sophie had to look down to hide her grin. Jack pretend sighed as Breanne started to pull him away.
"Well, it was nice meeting you! See you around!" He called over his shoulder, still smiling.

Sophie stood watching them walk away for a moment, before realizing she'd better hurry if she didn't want to be late for her first class. She hurried into the school before realizing that there was no way she was gonna be able to find her home room. She looked around, trying to find someone to ask, but everyone either avoided her gaze or wasn't paying attention.
Finally she caught the gaze of a short brown haired boy with freckles.
He smiled at her and she inwardly sighed with relief.
"Hi, what grade are you in?"
He asked, walking over to her.

"Um twelfth." She answered, smiling.
Surprise flashed through his eyes.
"Wow! Your a senior?! Lucky! I'm only a Sophomore. Are you new to Fenwick?"
Sophie nodded.
"Yeah..... I'm kinda lost."
She said with a nervous chuckle.
The boy smiled even bigger.
"Not anymore! I'll show you the way!"
Sophie rubbed the back of her neck.
"Are you sure? I don't want you to be late for class."
The boy laughed heartily.
"Hey, it will be worth it for a hot girl like you!"
Sophie blushed a very deep red and was silent for a few moments as she followed him.
"I'm Elliot, by the way."
He said, finally introducing himself.
"I'm Sophie. Sophie Foster. And....thanx, Elliot." She said, nervously licking her lips.

Four months later, Sophie ran down the front steps of the school, tears streaming down her face.
She ran and jumped into her car and sped off.
Sobs racked her body and tears blurred her vision.
She wasn't paying attention and she was going way to fast. Before she knew it, she was spinning on a thin black sheet of glass.
It all happened so fast, she didn't even have time to cry out.
Her car flipped.
Once.
Twice.
A third time.
Off the road.
And straight into a tree.

Pain flared all throughout her body and
She tried to grab her phone,
Tried to call her parents, but her blood slicked, shaking fingers wouldn't obey her.
Her head throbbed like a sledge hammer was pounding on it.
She faintly heard voices and then sirens.
Her consciousness blinked in and out as she was cut free from the metal and seatbelt, then gently pulled out and laid onto a stretcher.
Then all went black.

"Dr Foster!"
William looked up as a nurse hurried up to him.
"We have a patient that needs your immediate attention in the emergency room."
William nodded and followed the young woman through the halls of the hospital.
"What happened?"
"Car accident. Witnesses say the car slid on a patch of ice and flipped three times before ramming into a tree."
William winced and walked faster.
"How old?"

"We don't know exactly yet, but probably in her teens. We still don't know her identity.
As soon as we were able to get her from the car, it blew."
William sighed.
"Those reckless young drivers."
They reached the room then and pushed through the doors.
Nurse's and doctors swarmed the area and after a moment, he finally got a glimpse of the patient.
He gasped and staggered.
"No!"
He cried.
Everyone momentarily stopped as he raced toward the patient.

"Doctor? Do you know her?"
William gritted his teeth and nodded, holding back tears.
"It's my daughter."
He whispered.

Sophie heard someone sobbing.
And........voices...... in her head.

What should we do?

What if she doesn't make it?

Should we hail Physic?

What if someone figures out she's not human?

The last question made Sophie open her eyes.
Her mom and dad stood at the end of her bed.
"Mom?" Sophie choked out confusedly.
Her mother's head jerked up.
Her eyes were tear stained and her brown hair messy.
Emma rushed to her daughter's side and knelt down in front of her.

"Yes, Sweet?"
She whispered, wiping away tears.
"What's wrong? Where are we?"
Emma bit her lip and gave Sophie a sympathetic look.
"Oh, Soph. We're at the Hospital."
Sophie frowned, rubbing her head.
"The hospital? Wh-"
Then she remembered.
School.
The wreck.
The voices.
Sophie closed her eyes, taking it all in.
"Oh."

"Honey, why weren't you in school?"
Sophie clenched her jaw, her eyes smarting.
She knew why.
She'd had a flashback.
And having a photographic memory, everything was clear.
In the Flashback she had been a little girl. Probably about three.
It had been late at night, but Sophie couldn't sleep.
So she had snuck down stairs.
Her living room had been full of people.
All in black cloaks.

Her parents had been in there too.
She had heard them talking about something, but it was hard to tell what about.
Eventually she had gotten bored and had started to play with her cat, Marty, there in the hall, but as she was playing with him, she bumped into a picture.
It fell to the floor and the glass shattered.
The living room had gone silent and then the door had opened.
Sophie had guiltily stepped back and accidentally stepped onto a piece of glass.

A kind faced woman with brown skin and hair was standing in the doorway, and had picked her up then.
Blood had dripped from her cut foot.
The woman frowned when she saw it.
Emma had come forward then and sighed.
"Oh, Soph."
Sophie started to cry then.
"Hey, It's okay." The woman with braids all through her hair had cooed.
Then she had brought Sophie to the kitchen and cleaned her foot before wrapping it in a bandage and fixing her a sippy-cup of warm tea.
Then she had brought Sophie back into the living room and cuddled her until she feel asleep.

Pain flared in teen Sophie's head and she gasped, before starting to fall back into unconsciousness.
The last thing she heard was her father's voice.
"Don't worry, Soybean, Mr Forkle will be here soon."

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sophie! Sophie you can't forget! Wake up! He's in your head! Sophie!

Sophie's eyes fluttered open, startled.
Her next door neighbor, Mr Errol Forkle, sat in the guest chair next to her bed.
She swallowed nervously and tried to sit up a little.
"Miss Foster."
He greeted with a nod.
"Mr Forkle....."
"Nice to see you awake."
Pain was flashing though her head and it was hard to concentrate.
"Thanks." She muttered.
"What....what are you doing here?"

Mr Forkle sighed.
"Your mother called me and asked if I would come sit with you why they worked."
Sophie raised an eyebrow in suspicion.
"Why you?" She then realized how rude she was being and blushed.
"I mean-"
But he cut her off with a tired smile.
"It's alright Miss Foster. Since you guys just moved here a little while back they didn't really know who to call. So they called me."

Sophie still thought it odd, but her mind was to clouded with sleep and the pain that she didn't argue.
She briefly closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
Her broken leg was throbbing and her banged up head pounded from the voices.
One broken leg, one dislocated shoulder, three cracked ribs, several bruises, and a concussion.
That's what her dad had said was all wrong with her.

When she finally opened her eyes, Mr Forkle was watching her closely.
A shiver ran down her spine and she blushed and tried to sink back into the small hospital bed.
"Uh....umm..... could I get like some aspirin or something? I've got a terrible headache."
Mr Forkle slowly nodded.
"I'm sure you can." He said quietly before calling in the nurse.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

"Hey,"
Sophie glanced up at the blonde haired girl with crystal blue eyes who had slid into the seat next to her.
"Oh..... hi Helen." Sophie said quietly.
Helen being a girl she had befriended before the crash.
"How are you?" Helen asked, concern filling her voice.
It had been a month since the wreck
She still had to walk with crutches and take medication for her headaches, but otherwise she was almost completely better.
At least physically.
Mentally, she was a disaster.
She had kept hearing voices and had finally figured out that they were thoughts.
And she couldn't, Wouldn't, tell anyone. They'd think she was a freak at least and some test subject at most.
And she couldn't figure out how to block them, so It was just easier to stay away from people.
Even if it hurt.

"I'm okay."
Sophie said after a moment.
After a few more silent moments, Helen asked, "So..... everyone is going to Jack and Ally's tonight for games and stuff.............You wanna come?"
Ally was Jacks younger sister.
Sophie let out a slow breath.
Please say yes.
Helen's mental voice whispered.
"No, Helen. I'm sorry. Just not this time."

Helen bit her lip and stood.
"Oh....Okay......"
She started to walk away, but stopped and turned back.
"We miss you, Sophie. Don't stay away too long."

Sophie didn't respond, so Helen just sighed and walked away.
After a minute, Sophie pulled the sheet of paper from under the table that she had been hiding.
She set it on the cafeteria table and picked up her pencil. Then she continued writing.

'She inhales
They stay inside her
Her emotions
Burrowing down

'Her eyes
They stay fixated
But what they see
Is not her focus

'She nods
But her soul shakes it's head
She smiles
But inside she is crying

'Silent as nothingness
She screams
But no one sees
You cannot hear her internal cries

'Her feelings shatter
The glass inside her spikes
But outwardly she laughs
Sorrowful Joy

'She is dying
She is blue
But she hides it
With her shield

'Her shield of Okay
Her shield of Fine
It is golden
And it hides her

'It hides her pain
Her true vibes
False positivity
Flowing outwards

'So she cowers
Behind her shield
Nobody knowing
What she truly feels'

Sophie stopped.
Tears started to roll down her cheeks as she grabbed the paper and crumpled it into a ball. Then she grabbed her crutches and hobbled over to the trash, throwing the balled paper inside, before hurrying to class.
But what she didn't see, was the blonde boy walking to the trash and slowly lifting the balled paper from it.
Nor did she see him uncrumple it and slowly read it.
