Chapter 43 - The Red Dress

Madeline started to go to her work, and could finally get adjusted to her new life. Wake up, get dressed, go to work, get back home, dinner, sleep. Wake up, work, home, dinner, sleep. Home, work, home, eat, sleep. Work, eat, sleep. Work, eat, sleep and repeat. This became her new normal, no challenges, no violence, no fear but also no one by her side.

It's been one week. She moved as per the stipulated schedule and refused to think. What if every event that once kept her trapped behind a black door, comes rushing into her mind, haunting her yet, again? She couldn't risk that. She refused to even talk to anyone. Not even her colleagues, not even her neighbors. In the initial days, she tried to establish contact with Jackson, but gave up later. There wasn't any communication, since then. Until, one day.

It was early in the morning, and she was checking out her length, in her new mirror, before she set to leave. "Perfect" , she said to herself with a wide grin pasted to her face. She walked towards the main door, opened it and shuddered in her place.

Her eyes widened and wide opened her mouth, when she saw an unidentified, suited man standing at her door with a humble smile pasted on his face.

Madeline(in a defensive tone): Who are you?

She kept her fixed on him, as she ran her hands blindly through the shelf near the door, for the gun, she always stored for self defense.

The man did not react any other way. He bowed a little in front of her, as an acknowledgement and stretched out a packet towards her. She glanced at the packet and shot her eyes back to his face.

The man continued in the humblest tone possible: I am sent to pick you up. I was asked to deliver you this. There is a note inside, which has a message for you.

She frowned and took the packet from his hand, she tore open a part to see a glimpse of red fabric. She looked up at the man, with questioning eyes.

Madeline: Who sent you?

Man(courtesy smile): I am sorry, I am not allowed to speak on that. You are requested to check the note and come with me.

Madeline(in a higher pitch): Sorry? Why do you want me to come with you?

Man: Well, that is what I was advised to do. You will be safe, miss. Until you reach your destination safely. I will at your service.

Madeline scanned her eyes through him, with a suspicion engulfing her mind..

Madeline(stern voice): Stay Here! I will be right back.

She returned back into her room and tore open the packet. It was a beautiful red dress and pick card peeping through the folds of the fabric. She pulled it out and read:

"Hey love, I am sorry to keeping to waiting. I have a way to cover it up for you, I hope I can put a smile back on that beautiful face. Be in this dress. And, get into the car, sent to you. I can't wait to see you, mi amor. I love you."

It's him. It's HIM. IT IS HIM!!

With the words, her face started to glow. She let out a high pitched squeak, while she hopped on the floor, like a kid jumps over a trampoline. She stopped to help her breath get steady. She pulled out the dress out of it's folds and quickly changed into it.. She checked herself out on the mirror. It was a blood red dress with a sweet heart neck, perfectly showing the chiseled collar bones, harnessing her bare shoulder. A slit just below the thighs showing her left leg. Her lips curved into a grin as she studied every details of the dress and all the love that was bestowed into it.

She pulled out her drawer and picked up the small necklace that, once Jackson gave her. It was that necklace which Jackson gifted her, as Rex. After, everything that happened, she preferred to keep it out of her sight, but never could she gather the courage to throw it away.

She wore it across her neck after a long time, and kept her brightened eyes fixed on the shine, that fell perfectly over her neck.

She tossed left and right to make sure everything is perfect and turned her heel to leave, but stopped on her way. Suspicion that once entered her mind, never seemed to leave, she walked back into her house, opened the same drawer and pulled out a gun and a suspender. She strapped the suspender to her right leg and suspended the small gun on it. Brushed off the creases of her dress, looked back at the mirror, took a deep breath and left the house.

She walked out of the house in confident steps and stood near the black shiny car, without looking at the chauffeur, who gave her a warm welcome as he opened the door for her, she did not revert. She adjusted herself in the back seat of the car with a shrewd look pasted on her face. The chauffeur seemed to sense the discomfort and decided not to further scrap on that. He hopped inside the driver seat and twisted the ignition. The call pulled off.

After, a long ride through the city, the car took a narrow alleyway and drove towards a blank space. She pulled her neck to see a private jet standing with a few other men and women dressed in black, probably waiting for her arrival.

She walked out of the car in disbelief, while the chauffeur held the door for her. She kept her eyes fixed on the flying wagon as she took steady steps towards it.

She reached near the stretched out stairs and stopped. She turned her face towards the man standing at her right. He bowed down in front of her as a gesture of welcome.

Man: Good evening, I am Charles, at your service. I will be flying this plane, and if anything you require, there is Sonnie right behind you, is here to guide you. We hope you have a pleasing flight. She turned her head towards Sonnie, who had a wide grin pasted to her face while she gave a sharp nod, as a gesture. Madeline forced a smile back at her. She turned her face towards the man and spoke in a calm tone.

Madeline: I am pleased by the gesture, I really am. But, don't try to deviate the plane. You will regret.

Madeline curved her lips into a hysterical smile. The man's face started to show signs of confusion and a hint of nervousness

Man: P..Pardon ma'am?

Madeline(clearing her throat): Nothing! Shall we?

He composed himself and nodded his head randomly, and gestured the other men, to move as planned. Sonnie, stretched her hands towards Madeline and ushered her into the flight.

After a couple of minutes, the plane landed. It was already past five.

Madeline kept seated in her place, still. The suspicion, never left her mind, but she tried her best to cover it with an expression of confidence.

Sonnie walked towards her and greeted with a similar grin pasted to her face: Welcome, to the island of Menorca!

Madeline nodded and forced a smile on her face.

She climbed down the stairs, and there was a limo standing at a distance, and in the front stood another man dressed in black, holding a warm smile. She looked up at him, and slowly walked towards the limo, occasionally turning back at the jet.

As, she reached near the limo.

Man: Good evening, Ma'am. I apologize for the tiring journey, but trust me, it will be worth it.

Madeline shot her eyes up at him, and panic struck over her.

Man continued in a humble tone: We have a surprise planned for you. For that, you are requested to put on this blind fold.

He stretched forward a black silken, long piece of cloth towards her.

Madeline took a look at the cloth and shook her head. In no time, the man was standing frozen, pulling up his hands in the air, panic-stricken, as Madeline stood pointing her gun, straight at his head, holding up a defensive look on her face.

Madeline(in a commanding voice): I am not going to put on that blindfold.

Man(trembling): Okay...okay, if that is what you demand.

Madeline: Spit it out. What kind of surprise is planned?

The man shuffled through his pocket to pull out his phone.

Madeline: DROP THAT!! I DARE YOU CALL ANYONE!! HANDS WHERE I CAN SEE THEM!

He dropped the phone in no time, and stood there frozen. The other men, including the pilot and the air hostess, jittered in their places as they took steps back slowly.

Madeline: WHO SENT YOU?

The pilot shouted in a trembling voice: It was Ja...Jackson Claros..!! He...he had..surp...surprise for you.

Madeline turned her head towards the pilot and looked up at him with rage filled eyes. The pilot shivered in his place.

Madeline(in a low tone): You are lying! YOU ARE LYING!! THAT WON'T WORK!! SURPRISES DON'T WORK WITH ME !! EITHER YOU TELL ME THE TRUTH, OR YOU DIE!!

The environment was filled with panic as Madeline kept her gun stretched and everyone surrounding did their level best, to keep a considerable distance from her. No one dared to leave the spot, with the fear of being the first target.

She kept up with her defensive posture, until a familiar voice hit her ears from a afar.
