Chapter 11 - Invincible
"Now, that you have given a head start to the mission, we need to accelerate the things." Jacob kept speaking while he made his way towards his office and Madeline trailed him.
He pushed open the glass door and darted inside. It was a spacious cabin, decorated in a white and grey aesthetic and his certificates hung proudly just above his chair. Madeline, walked in and sat on the chair, at the either side of the table, as Jacob went across the table and settled in the huge arm chair. He rested his elbows on the table and supported his chin over his crossed hands.
"But, the thing is" he mused, "when he should have reacted, he is too calm. I believe they are planning something insanely big."
Madeline kept her pondering gaze on the reflection of the ceiling on the glass table. "What if, they are taking their time in tracking us? We never left a trace."
"Never take your enemies lightly, Maddie." leaning back, "Well, in this case, Mr. Alvarez has already instructed us to take special precautions. We have taken up a big risk."
Madeline looked up at Jacob, "But, that shouldn't be a reason for us to let down our weapons."
Jacob studied through her offence, "Maybe, certain things happen for good."
"Playing safe is not my thing."
Jacob sighed before he diverted his words, "Let's get back to work."
Madeline shifted her frustrated gaze, down towards the shiny table.
"He isn't married, right?"
Madeline moved her head in denial.
"Girlfriend?"
Madeline creased her eyebrows, "How will that help?"
She shifted her gaze up, to find Jacob staring at her without a blink, and a smirk on his face.
Her countenance ironed out, simplifying his motive. "You can't be serious!" she revolted.
"The last resort, Maddie!"
Madeline stormed up in her place, "I am not killing any innocent."
"A gangster's girl, is hardly innocent." he scoffed
"You don't even know."
Jacob pressed his lips with a subtle annoyance and stood up in his place. "Maddie, " he started in a matter of fact tone, "At this point the sole motive should be to held get hold of that man. And for that, I don't care who is innocent."
"Jake, this is the last level we can stoop down to. By trying to reach his weakest spot? Really?"
Jacob shifted his gaze towards his left, as his shoulders plunged down
"Just because, she is a gangster's girlfriend, doesn't give me the right to kill her. At least that's not, what my values teach."
"Values don't teach you to save a criminal!" he snapped out, leaving her baffled by his reaction.
"I am just keeping the game fair." she replied in a calm tone, after a brief pause, "That shouldn't bother you."
"Being fair, ain't getting me nowhere."
"I am not getting a family into the crossfire, Jake."
"Maddie.."
"No!"
Without further words, Jacob kept a glare piercing through her head. She never wanted to cross his brother. The only person for whom she is alive. But, that could not blind her from the fact that he was being utter desperate and he is letting his desperation engulf him. She glided down her eyes from him and turned on her heel to leave.
"You are deviating for the rules, Lizzie!" Jacob thundered abruptly halting her in her place, "Sober up if you don't want to face the consequences. And, at that time, I won't be there to save your ass."
She turned towards Jacob to find him standing; his hands crossed against his chest and his shoulders tensed up.
Madeline replied in a dead voice, "I won't change my ways. Regarding the killing plan of the leader's so assumed girlfriend, falling for a criminal is not enough a crime, to get killed, and for your kind information, Jacob Thompson. My offer still lies on your table. I never wanted anyone to interfere in my work, anyway. Not even my shadow. And after this if you and Mr. Alvarez choose to seize my license, she scoffed, "You still can't stop me. And, Trust me, if I ever get out of your protocols, you'll never find me. I. will be. INVINCIBLE. And, I won't stop till I get what I want. I guess, you know that part of me, at least."
A heated silence spread across the room. After a brief moment, Madeline stormed out of the room.
At the Hawks' Hideout,
Jackson kept looking the phone screen, as he paced across the room. Various tech savvy, under the gang are working on various systems, and are engrossed on the big screen. The search operations were still on.
"Boss, I need you to see this."
Jackson walked up to the large screens, narrowing his eyes. It showed a blurry picture. Most likely, a still shot from a video, "What is it?"
Rose zoomed the screen, on a part, which showed a gunpoint.
"This is the footage of the cameras fitted inside our east office. And, the lady was in the frame. The face wasn't clear, but our team was successful in figuring out the face of Lizzie.
Jackson furrowed, "Show me."
Rose, after scrolling through the control panel, "There you go."
She made a click. A window popped up and showed a familiar face cut. It was Madeline.
His eyes balled out at the view. He froze in his place, "This is not true."
"Pardon me, but this is what the reports speak."
"This can's be freaking true." he thundered.
Rose jolted in her place and lowered her eyes.
His breathing accelerated. His whole body tensed up. He was fuming with rage, angry at the irony and angry over the circumstances. In short, he lost it.
"She can't be the one. How can you be so damn careless." The whole control room fell silent. The only voice that echoed was the boss.
"Boss!"
Waved his forefinger in front of her eyes, shutting her up immediately. "Don't.." he warned, "Can you prove you are correct? if not, I will...kill you myself."
Rose gulped in, "We have other information to back the claim, as well."
"What information?"
"Trust me, on this, Boss."
"Show me the documents, if I find any deviation, get ready to face the consequences.
Rose warily nodded and pulled out a file from the shelf. Hesitantly, she turned the pages, "This includes everything about her. She....holds a dual identity. Her real name is Madeline Parc. Works in a little shop and at the same time acts as a undercover assassin, under the name, Lizzie. Apparently, she is not officially an assassin and efficiently hid herself under the facade of a normal girl for years. Taken up various hits till date, basically high and low criminals. She has taken up the highest numbers of bounty till date. Mr. Collins was assassinated by her, and efficiently fabricated as a suicide. Her private information is highly protected. It was quite a tough job to bring it out.
He recklessly turned through the pages as sweats started to break out of his hairline. After scrolling till the last page of the document, he shook his head to himself and hurled the file across the room, "This. can't be. true!"
"This is the correct report, boss. There is no place for a mistake, we double checked. We won't break the rule of not killing any innocent.
Jackson snapped his red shot glare at her and she meekly nodded in return.
Jackson lowered his gaze and whispered to himself, "She was the one, the whole time." His world started to revolve at a higher speed near his eyes.
"That B*tch!" he roared, trembling everyone who was inside that room. Every one present there, left their systems and stood up in their places.
Jereff, after hearing his roar, barged inside the control room, "What happened?"
Rose looked at Jereff with a ominous look in her face, "We... found the killer."
Jereff read through her expression and understood, something sinister was about to happen. He shifted his gaze towards Jackson to see him frozen in his place. Glazing rage, seeping out of his veins. Everyone round him, kept a considerable distance from him. Valid! He seemed like he could kill anyone who goes near him.
After a brief silence, Jackson let out a shay breathe and closed his eyes. He shot open his eyelids and spoke out in a stern voice: Get the force ready after 5 minutes. Locate me, and reach, where I halt for more than 2 minutes.
"How do you plan to do it?"
Jackson snapped at Jereff and that is when he saw the hidden turmoil in his younger brother's eyes. He wasn't just angry. He was broken. Something happened in a span of a few seconds that left him tormented, "Jack!"
In a snap, the emotions in his eyes faded away. He was looking at him like a dead man, hungry for destruction. "She messed with the wrong person." he hissed, " she is mine to kill. She messed up with the wrong person. She doesn't know me yet." he kept murmuring to himself as he darted out of the room, leaving everyone debilitated and unsettled by his behavior.
Jereff was no exception. He knew his brother. He was the worst at taking any failure. As he kept trying to fit in a reason for his reaction, his eyes fell on the scattered papers on the floor. As, he sauntered over to the spot and squatted, the contents in the page that showed, was enough to get the answer he needed.
This can't be good!
Jereff stood up in his place and commanded, "Get the force ready, now!"
"But, we are not ordered to move immediately."
"And I change that. Get started immediately. The boss will need us."
