If I Could Tell Her

Evan's Perspective-

I never really fell in love.

All throughout elementary school we gave out those crappy cardboard flavored chocolates to our classmates just because we had to.

When middle school rolled around, however, that was when it really started to kick off.

Roses being sold, actually good chocolates, even lockers were being stuffed with valentines!

It was no longer a mandatory thing to give one, meaning I often got nothing. I never minded too much, since I knew that was the way things were.

The girls would brag about all the gifts they got while the guys talked about the kisses they gave, and I simply watched in the background.

The same went on until around my junior year in high school.

I'm not sure what made me want to go see the jazz band's concert, but something in me told me it was worth my time.

And that was when I met her.

Zoe Murphy.

She wasn't one of the solos or stars, but she was just as talented if not more.

She played the guitar and whenever she strummed, she tapped her foot softly on the ground in her worn out converse, and she shut her eyes as she concentrated on the music.

I was in awe and I have no real good explanation as to why. It wasn't like she had a huge part, but maybe it's because she didn't that she stood out to me.

She was just sitting comfortably in the background, watching as everyone else had that High School Musical experience.

Just like me.

Ever since then she became one of the highlights of my days. Sadly, she was a year younger than me, so I didn't get to see her a lot.

But when I did, I felt my whole world shine.

Evan slowly ate his sandwich during lunch, his eyes falling onto Zoe, who just strolled in. The cuffs on her jeans had doodles of stars from pen ink (something she did whenever she got bored).

She sat down and while waiting with her friends, she took out a teen magazine. Evan smiled softly, watching as Zoe brushed a strand of her hair behind her ear (she was testing out dying streaks of color in her hair, and right now it was a nice shade of indigo).

Zoe's friends suddenly showed up and she put away the magazine, smiling at them as they talked.

Evan sighed, dreaming of the day he would have that smile aimed towards him.

Yeah right, like she'd ever even give me a second thought. She barely even knows me, and if she did she'd probably know me as meh...

Evan buried his face in his folded arms on the table. He heard distant chatter about Valentine's Day and lifted his head a bit to look back at the girl he loved so deeply.

He frowned as he ate his lunch again.

If I could tell her...

~

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Whether you're a single Pringle or not, we all got someone there for us.

I know it sounds cringe but it really is true, you can only love someone once you've learned to love yourself. So spend some time cheering yourself up and doing things you love, as well as spending time with friends!

We all need love and kindness, no one deserves to be forgotten. Make sure to have the loveliest of lovely days, and spread as much kindness as you can.
