The Collision
~3rd Person POV~
"Shit! It's overheating!" A scientist yells
"Everyone, evacuate!" Another yells
"What about the one who's in the machine?!"
"Forget him! He's probably dead anyways!"
As the scientists flood out of the building, some get trampled over, killing them, and others couldn't get out in time and were caught in the explosion. After the explosion, all the scientists turned around, looking at all of the fallen debris, and fire. But something had caught their eyes. A blue and red cloud was rising into the sky.
"Quick! Someone do something so we can experiment on some of that stuff!" The head of the scientists yells
One scientist starts sucking in, causing only a small portion to break off of the cloud, and takes out a jar to put it in.
"What the hell is that...?"
~Sean's POV~
'Another boring day of my uneventful life at .' I think to myself as I walk into my kitchen, getting ready to eat. "What's for breakfast?"
"Bacon and eggs now be quiet, I'm trying to listen to the news." My mom tells me, as I look at the screen to see what was going on. There were firetrucks everywhere, and scientists talking to cops.
"Earlier this morning there was an explosion at the lab that was supposedly experimenting in time travel. I'm here with the man who was put in charge of this experiment by the government." The reporter says, as the camera turns to the head scientist.
"Yes, well, the time machine was overheating, and we all tried to get out of there, some were trampled, some were caught in the blast, and the one in the time machine...melted..." The head scientist said.
"Oh no! I hope he's okay!" My mom says. I just turn my head and look at her in disappointment.
"Mom."
"Yes?"
"He melted, he's dead." I said
"Okay?"
"How would he be okay?"
"Oh yea..." My mom looks up as she realizes what she had just said.
"After the explosion a blue and red mist rose into the air, and then faded, we have yet to figure out what it was, but will not rest until we do. We have a sample of it in this jar and we plan to run tests on it." The head scientist says, holding up the jar. "We were just lucky that we had a scientist with suction magic."
Magic. It's been here since the beginning of time. Not one person alive doesn't have a form of magic. Sure, some of them are useless, such as being able to levitate 1 inch off the ground for a maximum of 1 minute at less then optimal speed, but that's their problem. Me? I have something called manipulation magic. I can take any substance, and form it into whatever I want. It could be water, leaves, blood, anything honestly. But at some points, my magic builds up in me, and I explode into rage. It caused my father's death when he was trying to help train me in using my powers.
"Well, I'll be off." I say, grabbing my bag, and walking towards the door.
"Have a nice day sweetie!" My mom calls after me
"Yea, sure." I say, closing the door "Nice day...yea, like anyone can have a nice day at summer school."
I start walking my usual back alley path towards the school, and stop.
"Hey, Isel, you can come out now." I say, as a small, rock sized wolf comes out of my bag, and lays on top of my head.
"You know, you really should be passing school so you have more time for training." Isel tells me
"I hate how you can just use telepathy to transmit your message into my head, it's annoying."
"Who cares about annoying? You've been chosen by a god for a candidate to take her place."
Oh yea, familiars. They're only given to people who a god deems "worthy" to take succeed their role. There are seven gods in all. Geru, Sarend, Priim, Tinju, Halec, Catu, and Dinsu. Supposedly, a god chooses twelve people towards the end of their life span. I, unfortunately, was one of those people. If you are unfortunate enough to be chosen, then you have three years to train, and fight in a tournament to determine who will succeed them as a god. You may be wondering why I'm being so negative about this. It's because if you're caught with a familiar, you will be tested on, and have your magic extracted out of you to see what makes it so powerful, and why you were chosen by a god.
"Yea, yea. Train to be eligible to fight in the tournament to see who will be the successor of the elegant goddess Priim. You've told me this everyday for the past TWO YEARS!"
"How dare you talk to such a pure, celestial being as myself!" Isel says, scratching at my head.
"Listen, since it's so important to you, I'll train everyday after summer school."
"Well...at least it's better then what you were doing before. I mean, you won't be sitting on your ass when you get home anymore."
"Yea, 'pure'." I say
"Hey Sean?"
"What's up Isel?" I ask
"You do know that once the tournament is over...we'll be separated forever. Priim will die as she won't be an immortal deity anymore. I'll be gone along with her..."
"Look on the bright side! We still have a year until that day comes!" I say
"Actually, three hundred forty-seven days, thirteen hours, twenty-nine minutes, and fifty-six seconds."
I take Isel off my head, and put her in my hand. Then I just stare at her. She tilts her head to the side out of curiosity. I just smile, and put her back on my head.
'I gotta admit, I'm gonna miss her and the smart remarks she makes.' I thought to myself
"I heard that." Isel says, wagging her tail.
"Shut up you mutt." I say, as the school comes into view. "Quick, get back in the bag. We're here."
Isel obeys, and jumps into my bag. I don't zip it up because Isel, being the needy familiar she is, wants "light" and "air". Like, you're a celestial being, you're immortal, the hell do you need air for?
I walk up to the door, and open it, and see my fellow school failures.
First, Sarah Flores. Popular, rich, captain of the cheer squad, and arguably the hottest girl in the school. Every guy likes her, and very girl wants to be her. Her downside though, she's not that smart. Everyday she walks in with some fancy Armani clothes, and Louis Vuitton heels. I swear, it's like she thinks she's on the runway or something. She almost always has her brown hair down, and wavy. Her power is healing. She's had to use it on me after a broken nose from dodgeball by the popular jock who thinks he deserves to be with her, and thought he caught me looking at her. I guess you could say we hit it off well. People say her best feature is her emerald green eyes.
Second, Nicholas Robinson, but everyone calls him Nick. He's a running back for the football team. He's also the biggest dick in school, but whenever it comes to Sarah, he cleans up his act. They aren't dating, but everyone think they would be perfect for each other. If he catches you looking at Sarah, let's just say...you won't be seen by anyone in the school for a while. He always wears his Letterman Jacket, with a white t-shirt on underneath it, with jeans, and regular sneakers. He caused the broken nose that Sarah had to heal. His power is paralysis, as long as he can see his target. At the time, his piercing brown eyes paralyzed me. When he threw it, his black hair covered his eyes, but at that point it was to late to move.
Finally, Kaleb Schultz. He's the poor kid. No one likes him, comes in wearing the same stained white t-shirt and, tattered brown leather jacket, ripped jeans, and dirtied white shoes. His hair is almost always a blonde mess, and his blue eyes always looked depressed, and he always smells terrible. His power is super strength. Only reason I know this is because he had to lift a locker of a kid who was put there by one of the bullies. Instead of the kid thanking him, he got scared and ran away.
I take my usual seat behind Sarah, and to the left of Kaleb.
"Hey Sean!" Sarah greets me, turning her seat towards me.
"What's up Sarah?" I ask, while Nicholas gives me a death stare.
"Just talking to Nick. Then he started bragging about how good he is at football, so I got annoyed, and you walked in at just the right time!"
I start laughing and then Nick gives me a death stare, and paralyzes me, causing me to start choking from lack of air.
"NICK! STOP!" Sarah yells, at Nick. He caves in, and lets his hold of me go and I take a few deep breathes.
"WHAT THE FUCK?!" I yell
"Sean! Are you okay?!" Sarah asks
"Yea...I'm fine."
Nick just looked away and acted smug.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Sarah aks me worried
"I'm positive, no harm done."
"Thank god." Sarah sighs out in relief
"My throat just really hurts."
"I can make it feel better." Sarah tells me
"Go ahead."
She puts her hands around my neck, and it immediatley feels better.
"All better?"
"Yea. Thanks." I thank her, and she smiles at me.
"Alright you lowlife degenerates! Sit down!" Our teacher yells at us, as she comes in the room, and puts her bag down next to her desk, making all four of us get to our seats as fast as we could. "Now! You four are the only ones in summer school this year, why is that?"
"Because we're lesser then the other kids, and don't deserve your time." Everyone besides me says
"Sean? Why didn't you say it?" The teacher asks me
"I didn't feel like it."
"Sean, say it!" The teacher yell at me
I sigh and get up. "Because we don't want to do what this shitty school system tells us to do, and wish we were kicked out so we try the absoulte least so we can be away from your bitchy attitude."
Her face begins to turn darker shades of red my the second. Everyone else just put their heads down, trying their best to not break out laughing, and I just sit back down and put my chin in my hand. I look around the room, and saw small ears and a head poke out of his bag.
"I'm going to the bathroom." I say, and get up, grab my bag, and go to the bathroom. "Isel. We need to talk."
Isel pops her head out of my bag. "What is is Sean?"
"You know that guy next to me, Kaleb?"
"What about him?" Isel asks me
"Well, it's just a hunch, but I think he may have a familiar."
"Why do you think that?"
"I saw something that looked similar to small ears and a small head poking out of his bag earlier." I explain
"Then, wouldn't it be best to take him out?" Isel asks me
"ISEL! THAT'S TAKING A LIFE!"
"I can do it."
"Get back in the bag." I tell her, as she jumps back in.
I walk back into the class, and sit down.
"Nice of you to finally join us!" My teacher yells at me
"I was gone for literally three minutes. Calm yourself."
When class finally ends, Sarah comes up to me.
"What was that about earlier?" She asks me
"What do you mean? I went to the bathroom."
"With your bag?"
"Yea...so?" I ask
"Sean, you're lying to me."
"Whaaaaaaat?" I ask, starting to visibly panic
"I won't leave you alone until you tell me." She stands there, and taps her foot.
"God damn it, fine! Come with me!" I grab her hand and drag her outside.
Once outside, I look for a closed off area, and bring her to it.
"Listen, what I'm about to show you, is STRICTLY a secret between us."
"Okay." She agrees
I pull out Isel, and Sarah's eyes go wide.
"I-Is that... A FAMILIAR?!"She yells
I cover her mouth with my free hand.
"Be quiet." I demand
She nods, and I take my hand off her mouth.
"What god chose you?"
"Priim, goddess of War and Creation." I tell her
"Have you been training?" Sarah asks me
"No."
"Why not, you could become a god!" Sarah whisper yells at me.
"It's a lot of energy. But I promised Isel I would train after school."
"Isel?"
"My familiars name."
"You gave it a name?" She asks
"No, she appeared on my chest one day and said she was my familiar, that her name was Isel, and that I was chosen as a possible successor to the goddess Priim."
"Hey Sean, not to spoil your fun, but we should get going if you're going to train." Isel tells me
"Okay. Well, I'll see you tomorrow I guess." I wave to Sarah
"Wait! I have so many more questions!" Sarah stops me
I groan and turn towards her. "Give me your phone." I tell her
"Why?"
"So I can put my number in it, then you can just call me and ask."
"Oh! In that case, I'll do that with your phone too!" She takes my phone, and we put each others numbers in them.
"Well, see ya." I wave, walking off, while my brown hair lowers itself over my golden eyes.
A/n: I hope you all enjoyed the first chapted of my new book! I'm very excited about this, and hope you guys are too. This idea came to me in a dream a while back, so I figured why not write it out as a story? Anyways, make sure to tell me if you enjoyed in the comments! I also want to thank the person who said they would read over it, and helped me with some proofing, I'm not going to say their name. The chapters will be edited quite a bit. So you may want to come back every so often.
