Everyone in the Survey Corps was gathered outside to see this battle.  Mikasa, Levi, and Kenny all have their 3DM gear, they're most likely to leave  the campus and go into town...like that one day...that very unbelievable day. Everyone knew how fast they were...it was unbelievable. People dying in vain. I know Mikasa and Levi will put their lives on the line for humanity but if they die in this battle, who knows what is to come.
