Chapter 18 - Michael

The fight was a hard-hitting and brutal one. Eventually with the number loss on the opposing wolves that attacked they had fallen back allowing us room to take care of our own. I knew why they were here. The minute the wolves attacked the border, I knew they came for one thing and one thing only.

Some one knows Misha's real identity.

When I arrived on the scene, my father had already fallen. He was severely bleeding and laying on the ground, far from the fight. His femoral artery was torn into. He was bleeding out and bleeding out fast.

The ambulance in town came by to pick up the injured and dead bodies. My father went on the first one to the hospital. Beta Josef had multiple wounds on his body but could still walk. He looked exhausted when he walked up to me.

"That was a tough one. I had never seen so many wolves attack the border like that before." Beta Josef said.

"They were skilled. They came prepared but they were surprise how heavily guarded our borders are." I answered.

"These wolves--they aren't rogues. Rogues don't usually work in packs or know any kind of formations. They become feral and uncontrollable. These wolves- "Beta Josef was cut short when I answered his thoughts for him.

"They are hired skilled mercenaries. Their formation of attacks was well thought out. They took out the strongest on our side first."

"You think your father will be okay?" He asked suddenly remembering my father was on an ambulance.

I nodded, running a frustrated hand through my hair. Things were running too fast. The attacks on the border could only mean that whoever it was that wanted Misha was already one step ahead of them.

"Fvck." I growled out. The bottled-up frustration and fury inside me threatening to burst.

Josef slapped me on the back, "Go. Go check on your father and Misha. I'll take of whatever is left from here. Those mercenaries' wolves won't be attacking any time soon."

"Make sure to double patrol. Everyone has to be alert and aware. Once everything is settled down, I will hold a pack meeting in the morning." I said before jogging off and then shifting into my wolf.

I ran to the hospital. I needed to know my father was okay. I knew Misha was safe at home. The conversation that I needed to have with her, I knew I can't avoid it now. I needed to tell her.

When I arrived at the small town hospital, I shifted back and grabbed a pair of scrubs to wear before walking further in. I knew where to go. I headed up to the surgical area. Nurses and doctors were running around frantically.

I stopped a nurse to ask here where my father was.

"He is in surgery right now. Doctor Prentice is working on him as we speak." The nurse looked like she was in a hurry but she knew she had to answer me first.

"Was he alive when he got here?" I asked.

She nodded, "He was still breathing. His heart beat was slow but he was still alive. He lost a lot of blood, Alpha."

I nodded and let her go. She quickly scampered away. I moved to sit in a nearby sofa in the waiting area. My hands were bloodied and I was pretty sure my face had all kinds of dirt. The claw marks on my chest and back were hidden on the scrub I had on.

Someone burst through the surgical entrance door and the flash of red caught my attention. I lifted my head up to see Misha walking towards me. She still had on her sleeping clothes.

"What happened?" She looked worried and frantic.

"How did you get here?" I pulled back to look at her fully.

"I drove." She said and sat down next to me.

I rolled my eyes, "That much is obvious. How did you know I was here?"

"Beta Josef swung by the room to give you an update but when he didn't see you. He told me that you were probably at the hospital still."

"And he allowed you to come here alone? I thought I told you to stay in my room." I scowled, feeling irritated with her. I didn't need her running around when I wasn't there.

She huffed, "I can take care of myself. Besides, I am in a place full of werewolves. Who would think to hurt me?"

She was completely oblivious to the threat that was going around. I sighed and covered my face with my bare hands. Rubbing it up and down, I tried to relieve the stress that had been pinching at my temples.

"What happened, Michael?" She asked.

"You should go home."

She shook her head, "I'm staying."

"Then you are to remain by my side. Do not move. Do not get out of my sight." I warned. She nodded her answer before asking me again what happened.

I was about to explain it to her when the surgical door opened and a surgeon walked out with bloodied clothes. His face looked grim and I knew immediately he didn't have good news. My hands curled up into tight fists.

"Alpha, my name is Dr. Prentice, I am so sorry to hear that your father was one of the injured wolves in the fight. I am sorry to say this but your father isn't doing so well. Your father came in with heavy bleeding even with direct pressure over the site of the injury the bleeding was incontrollable. We lost him in the ambulance ride here and had to resuscitate him once. The vascular repair was almost controllable but we are not able to stop the bleeding. He is losing too much blood and the blood we are administering is ineffective. He is losing more blood then his body is receiving." The surgeon stated.

"Is he still alive?" I asked.

He nodded, "I have another surgeon working on him right now but I wanted to let you know first that this does not look good, Alpha."

I felt like my world is tipping upside down. Hell, my father had stuck by my side even after my mother's death. He grieved for her and wanted to be with her. I never realized how much I depended on him until now. It was like I was missing an arm.

"Go back and do whatever you can to save him." I demanded.

"But-"

"I said SAVE HIM." I snarled. My hands wrapped around his collar as I shot out of my chair. My anger and dominance unleashed. The surgeon nodded quickly before running back through the doors he came from.

It was then I noticed that Misha was gone. I looked around the waiting room. I stood up and looked outside to see if she was getting some air. She was nowhere to be seen.

"Damn that woman!" I said angrily in an undertone. "You tell her to stay and she doesn't listen."

I walked towards the service desk to grab the phone receiver to call out on the intercom for her to come back here when I saw a flash of red disappear behind a corner in the surgical area. Misha had entered into the surgery doors.

"Fvck!" I said for the second time tonight as I threw the receiver on the desk and headed inside.

I threw open the double doors. Surgical nurses and doctors looked up from their seats. Everyone was scattered and wore panic stricken facial expressions as they scrambled about the surgical floors. The mass amount of casualties from the attack was enough to keep them all working hard to save as much lives as possible. Nobody noticed my crazy red head who walked in.

A few of them shifted uneasily under my fury state when I passed them. I followed Misha's scent around the corner and down the clean surgical hallway. I made another right once I reached the end of the hall. The labels on the walls told me that operating room 4-7 was to the right. Her scent wrapped around that way.

I trailed it until it stopped in front a door. I glanced at the label and saw briefly what room it was. Misha had entered an occupied operating room filled with surgical nurses and surgeons. They were so busy working on their patient, they didn't even notice her.

I threw open the door and walked inside just in time. Everyone looked up then noticing the change in the air. Their eyes zoomed to me before zipping towards Misha.

"You can't be in here." One of the nurses said immediately. She walked towards Misha who pushed her aside.

"I can help." Misha answered.

"No, this is a sterile operating room and we have a patient with an open wound. You cannot be-"

Misha shoved the nurse aside. A few turned their bodies, ready to stop Misha but Misha was quick. I took a few steps forward to take hold of her, however she stopped me when she reached out to touch the patient. A male nurse's hand shot out to grab a hold of hers.

"Let her go." I growled a threatening warning. I understand my possessiveness should play a part in the current situation. In fact, I knew in my mind that the nurse was just doing his job but my wolf didn't like the fact another man was touching what was what we considered ours.

The nurse retracted his hand as if he got shocked with electricity. Misha placed her hand on the patient's chest whom I now see was my father. The air temperature in the room seemed to have increase dramatically. Almost as all the life forces were moving through our bodies and moving towards her.

A soft warm aura glowed from her body. Her eyes were closed and her I can see how hard she was concentrating. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Misha was using her healing powers but how was she doing it? She didn't know she was—unless she somehow found out or her memories came back.

My father's wound started to heal right in front of ours eyes. When the last of the open wounds on his body was finally closed and he laid on the table unmoving but still breathing Misha opened her eyes back up.

Her hands let go of my father and she took a staggering step back. Her body swayed and I moved quickly to wrap my arms around her. Her eyes fluttered slightly.

"Michael..."She said weakly.

"You're okay. You'll be fine. I'm here." I replied.

It seemed she was struggling to keep herself awake. Her eyes were fluttering closed and then open. When her eyes met mine again there was a question in them.

"I'm a healer, ain't I? I was a healer before all this—before I lost all my memories. I'm a heal-"She fainted before she could finish.

I could feel the turmoil tugging through my body. She didn't get her memories back but again her wolf had guided her to do what she was born to be. Even when her wolf was weak, she was there to help those were in pain.

I knew I couldn't hide her secret any more. I had to tell her the truth before it caught up to us before it was too late. I lifted her up and carried her out of the operating room. The nurses and surgeons stood dumbfounded upon seeing such a miracle happen.

I needed to take her home and tell her the truth.
