Epilogue

I was at the beach in Brighton. I could hear seagulls and waves breaking on the shore. Although it was cloudy, there was a lot of orange light in the evening sky. I looked around and found David throwing pebbles at the sea.

It wasn't a dream this time – or was it? It was definitely dreamlike good -, so I didn't float over, but walked to him.

"Have you talked to your mum?"

"Yes, she is doing alright. It's sad that it's precisely when she came clean and told me she loved me that she has to spend five years in jail."

"Well, you should think that, at least, after that, you'll have years and centuries to bore each other."

I rested my head on his shoulder. The sun was starting to set, and the last glimpses of light made their way through the clouds. The pier looked golden and heart-stopping.

"Have you talked to the hospital?"

"Yes, I have a meeting tomorrow to discuss the order in which people will receive the treatment."

"So, it's finally definite that everyone will receive it?"

I nodded, and he flashed a refulgent smile. He took me in his arms and span me around, and I laughed. His ardent lips searched for mine, and I wrapped my legs around him.

"We should celebrate this." he said, breaking our kiss.

"What do you suggest?" I said, and then I joked: "I have high standards, mister. You should bear in mind that I have been a fugitive around the world."

"Well... My friend Brian, who also happens to be a fugitive at many places, and without moving from his backyard..." he said, and I laughed hard. "... is hosting a party tonight. I heard that someone called Africa is coming too."

I looked at his perfect face, at his hazel eyes, at his broad shoulders, at the mole above his lips.

"So we are back at the beginning." I said.

"We are back at the beginning..." he said, nodding. "... but, this time, with a long, long future ahead of us.

The clouds parted to let the sun shine and turn the whole sky orange during the last seconds of its reign, and when it went down behind the sea, it took Nora, and Danny, and Abbey, and sadness, and fear, and uncertainty – and Luke? - with it, leaving us in the dark until dawn.

But light and dark, day and night... They weren't a cycle anymore. At least, not that night. We had managed to break the cycles of nature, and we were set on doing the same thing once more; set on drenching in a darkness that was bright and that could only lead to a brand-new, sparklingly daunting dawn.

Well... this is the end of my first novel! I would absolutely love to hear everything that the book made you think, and feel... Which characters, or chapters, you liked best... Basically, everything going on in your minds :) Also, if you enjoyed it, please don't forget to vote on every chapter! I am entering the Wattys2016, so every vote means the world to me!

I am really looking forward to sharing the sequel - If I live forever, can I live now? - with all of you! What do you expect to find on it? What do you think Tessa's life will be like?

The first chapter will be up on September 15th. If you want to see the cover before that, follow me on Instagram: seasidewhispers
