Home Sweet Home
"So, you're in here" Paul threw the door to the second bedroom on the right open with a flourish, I walked in taking in the cosy interior it was a delightful mix of sunny yellows and creams, the bedspread a sunflower burst of happiness. "OK?"
"Lovely, ta Paulie" I smiled.
"Paulie, well that's new"
"Suits ya Paulie" I mused circling him in the middle of the room, looking on the dresser at the trinkets. "Shall I make tea?"
"Sure, I'll just change these clothes and meet you in the kitchen"
As I found the essentials in the massive kitchen I realised that Paul and I were alone, for an extended period of time too. I was more relaxed though now, having been around them all being jovial and funny at the studio and seeing them so laid back, normal even. It was good to watch them interact and I felt more friend than fan finally. I just hope it lasts and I don't embarrass myself.
I yawned a silent wish for bed and leaned on the tiled counter looking at the garden. Up on tip-toes to see all the way to the back fence, humming the opening bars of 'you can't do that' softly.
"Look at the female guitar at my kitchen sink" He laughed and sat clasping his hands together, waiting for me to pour his tea.
"Milk?" a nod
"Sugar" a 'yes please, 2, please' returned to my ears.
"Weak or strong?" The response 'mid strength please'
"It's not a pint, mate!" We both laughed.
I poured mine and we sat quietly. Paul drumming fingers and me looking about the furnishings and tiled floors.
"So, it's John" Paul guessed my thoughts correctly and I frowned, worried at my unspoken decision almost at once.
"He asked me to go to the movies" I smiled sweetly.
"You gotta be careful with him, can get a bit, love you and leave you, the lad can" Paul reached over and held my hand loosely.
"I said the movies, not marriage, Paul" laughing to break the small semblance of tension that was about to rear its ugly head once more.
"So, if I said popcorn and movie tonight, here?" Paul raised the eyebrow.
I shrugged. "Sure, I'm a sucker for popcorn!" and we were smiling again, a way to have some time with Paul and actually be normal.
I was looking forward to an evening in, to just get to know Paul.
