5. ANOTHER Mystery? Really?!

A/N: wooo. Almost no people are actively reading this book, but I'm not gonna stop writing it, because it's rolling along really well, not one writer's block in sight. I'm kinda in love with this fic. So. Yeah.

The next morning, Scorpius was still gone.

Rose and Cynthia went up to McGonagall's office after first period. The headmistress said she had no idea where Scorpius was, but she assured the two girls that they would do everything they could to locate him. The Daily Prophet was informed, and an article was released, explaining the situation and imploring the wizarding community to keep an eye out for any sign of the missing boy. Mr. Malfoy accused McGonagall of being irresponsible, and Mrs. Malfoy cried a lot. Cynthia was driving herself crazy trying to unearth clues. Students whispered nervously amongst themselves between classes and shot Cynthia weird looks. Rumours of a diabolical kidnapper circulated through the school, closely followed by ominous predictions made by the Daily Prophet that caused people to wonder whether the thing hadn't been done by someone who detested the Malfoys in general. These theories earned Rose and Hugo some weird looks of their own. The rivalry between the families of Malfoy and Weasley had been the stuff of common knowledge for as long as anyone could remember.

Five fruitless days slipped by. The students from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang arrived, and the Goblet of Fire was set up in the Entrance Hall. What with the excitement of meeting the foreign students, and the pre-Tournament tension, Hogwarts' students slowly turned away from the Scorpius Situation. Cynthia, though, was still staying up all night, hunting around for any clue as to her brother's whereabouts. And Rose was still staying up all night, worrying, while the butterflies had some sort of weird ongoing cry-fest and Rose's feelings collapsed into complete and utter turmoil.

On Saturday morning, Rose wandered miserably into the Entrance Hall. Cynthia had finally fallen asleep in an armchair in the common room, which was good. Rose had been contemplating drugging her.

An excited crowd was clustered around the stool where the Goblet of Fire stood sentinel, blue flames licking its insides. Rose headed toward the crowd and squeezed her way to the front.

"Has anyone entered their name yet?" She asked Bertie Macmillan, a rather pompous Hufflepuff prefect.

"The Durmstrangs did it earlier, but no one from Hogwarts yet. No one that I know of, at least," he answered. "Although, if only I were a year older, I would enter, of course."

Rose nodded absently, watching the blue flames dance in the Goblet.

Sandra Bellingham, a timid Hufflepuff in Rose's year, shook her head frantically. "Bertie's crazy!" She muttered to Rose. "Try for the Tournament? Who does he think he's kidding? After what happened - last time?"

Rose nodded again. Last time, a Hufflepuff was chosen by the Goblet as the Hogwarts champion, and he died. Murdered, to be exact. By He Who Must Not Be Named. Everyone knew about Cedric Diggory - Uncle Harry always said he was hero, even though he himself had fought Voldemort and risked his own life to get Cedric's body back to Hogwarts. In Rose's opinion, her uncle was the real hero.

Just then, the front doors opened and the students from Beauxbatons entered.

An excited hush fell over the small crowd around the Goblet, and everyone stood aside as the Beauxbatons were arranged into a line by their headmistress. One by one, they stepped across the Age Line and dropped their slips of parchment, on which they had written their name and school name, into the Goblet, which glowed faintly and emitted red sparks every time a name was dropped in. The Hogwarts students watched eagerly.

When each Beauxbaton had entered their name, the little group followed their headmistress back across the Entrance Hall.

Then one of them caught Rose's eye. She was tall, with a slender build, and waist-length ebony curls. She turned around and met Rose's stare. Her eyes were like chips of ice, piercing blue. Rose was pretty sure not even Scorpius could match her frigid gaze.

The girl regarded Rose for a long moment, her expression unreadable. Then her pouty lips curved into a rather scary smile that didn't reach her cold, calculating eyes.

"Viens, Vanessa!" The Beauxbatons headmistress called. The girl - Vanessa, apparently - turned to go, but not before winking at Rose and giving her a three fingered wave. Then she spun on her toe and followed her peers out into the grounds, her midnight tresses bouncing down her back.

A/N: sorry, I know it's really short, but I wanted to publish sumfink. Also. Just to be clear, for all those who might be suspecting things, in this chappy there is NO intentional girlxgirl ANYTHING, nor will there ever be in the entirety of this book. Although that should be kinda obvs, bc this a freaking scorose fic. Yeah. My brain is all scattered right now and I can't focus on my homework and the dam stuff is accumulating rapidly and I'm laying on my bed blasting Owl City and going on Wattpad and I have this giant pile of unfinished homework sitting on my carpet yelling at me while I'm trying to listen to music and I'm gonna start yelling shut up soon and my mom is gonna be like wtf. Comment and vote my lovely little rainbow unicorns. Hope everyone had an amazhang Easter. If you celebrate it.
