Kiana had gotten her family tickets for tonight's show and even flew them out to Tennessee. They had all been busy up until now. The Stevens always tried to attend Kiana and MUNA's concerts since they thought of Jo as their own child.
"You're parents coming?" Jo asked, taking a bite of her waffles.
"Yeah, my brothers coming too"
"I haven't seen little Marcus in so long!"
"He's not so little anymore," She said, "He's going to college at USC"
Jo nearly choked on her waffle, "USC?!" Kiana nodded. "No way, what's his major?"
"Music. I think"
"Man, college seems like it happened a century ago" Jo chuckled, taking a sip of her coffee.
"Remember when you first met Naomi? You were so wasted"
"Oh, my god!" The guitarist buried their face in her hands. "I was drunk! Plus that was a compliment"
"It was funny"
The group of friends arrived at the venue early for sound check, which they took as an opportunity to mess around. Jo kept playing random chords on their guitar while their band mates yelled at them to actually play the right chords.
"JoJo!" Marcus said, walking across the stage, "You're still as annoying as ever I see"
"Marcus!" Jo threw her arms around the college student. "Don't call me JoJo ever again"
Marcus let out a laugh when he took in the height difference, "You're shorter than I remember"
Jo gave Marcus a playful shove.
"Who are these guys?" Marcus nodded over at the others who were now messing around on the guitars as well.
"Oh, right. Sexy guitar guy is Geo, the redhead is Katie, the confused drummer is Sarab, and the one who looks like Bad Bunny is Naomi, and also I have no idea where your sister is"
"That was a lot of information to get in the last 30 seconds"
The other members of MUNA had finally seemed to notice Marcus was on stage.
"Oh, you must be Kiana's- little brother?" Katie unintentionally formed it as more of a question than a statement. "Little? Really?"
"She kinda got screwed in the height department" He shrugged.
Marcus sat at the back of the stage watching MUNA run through a couple songs for sound check. The entire time Marcus was in complete awe; someone who was practically his own sibling was gonna play a sold out show in Tennessee.
"This is gonna be me someday," He thought to himself. "One day I'll be playing a sold out show just like them"
Marcus had been so distracted by the empty venue that he didn't realize MUNA had finished soundcheck till Jo softly kicked his leg.
"Earth to Marcus!"
"Huh?" Marcus glanced around the stage, noticing him and Jo were the only two on it. "Oh, sound checks over?"
"We're you day dreaming or something?" She joked, but Marcus nodded. "Oh. About what?"
"About me playing a sold out show like you guys. I've looked up to your band and my sister sort of my whole life. It's awesome that you guys get to just travel the world and perform in sold out venues"
Jo laid her guitar against one of the speakers and sat cross legged on the floor beside Marcus. "Yeah, I guess it kind of is. But it isn't all fun and games y'know, it gets a bit stressful, not to mention the lack of privacy that comes with the fame"
"What was your worst experience?"
Jo thought for a minute, trying to remember all her encounters with insane fans and paparazzi. "I've had lots of weird encounters, but I don't think any of them could beat Kiana's"
"What happened to her?"
"Some crazy fan broke into her house and stole a bunch of shit to sell online" Jo placed a hand on Marcus' shoulder to put him at ease. "But don't worry about that. Lets go find your sister"
MUNA was on their last song, Silk Chiffon, which the boys and Kiana came out for. Every night each of them would take turns singing Phoebes verse, and tonight it was Kiana's turn.
Kiana was stood side stage with the boys adjusting her in ears. Katie spun around to face the side stage and waved Kiana out on stage. She ran out onto the stage and the crowd erupted into screams. Kiana sang her verse, and shortly after the boys joined the others up on stage. It was absolute chaos to say the least, which was something they all loved.
The concert had ended and all the artists headed backstage, which is where the Stevens had been guided to during the outro of Silk Chiffon.
"My rockstars!" J.R—Kiana's stepdad—hugged both Josette and Kiana, "That was amazing!"
Jo pulled away from the hug to hand Ivan her guitar, whereas Kiana did it to breathe because of how hard her dad was squeezing her.
"No way you guys bought merch, you look awesome!"
Sandra wore a black hoodie from Kiana's merch that said "Let's get sad" on the front with a shooting star on the back. J.R had on a MUNA hoodie and Marcus wore a "Greatest band in the world" t-shirt.
"You so do!" Kiana chimed in.
Suddenly, one of the security guards walked up to Kiana and whispered something in her ear; something she never thought would ever happen. Kiana followed the security guard towards the entrance to find her biological dad standing there.
"You have got to be fucking kidding me" Kiana began to walk back into the venue.
"Wait, please!" He called out, "I heard you were playing here and I wanted to see you"
The singer turned to face her dad, "What could you possibly want?" The last time Kiana saw him was when she was 11 years.
"I wanted to see you, I got out of prison a few days ago"
"I don't want anything to do with you. As far im concerned, J.R is my dad, not you" He was visibly upset by Kiana's response, but she couldn't careless about hurting him. "You wasted your time, George, go home"
"One coffee," He spoke, "I just want to catch up with you, and if you decide that you still don't wanna see me then I'll disappear from your life forever" George was desperate to see his daughter again after so many years.
"Fine," She reluctantly agreed. "But afterwards I never want to see you again"
George had driven Kiana to his home in Manchester, it was bigger than she had expected. The pair awkwardly walked to the front door and walked inside. Two young children immediately ran up to George and wrapped their tiny arms around his legs.
"What- who are they?" Kiana had so many questions she didn't even know where to begin. "Are they your kids?"
"Go play with your toys" The boys ran back over to their toys and resumed playing. George led Kiana to the dining table so the two could talk properly. "Yes, they're my sons. Liam and Thomas are twins, Denise and I adopted them two years ago"
"I would like to say they're lucky to have a dad like you but I'd be lying"
"Prison changed me, I'm not the same person I was all those years ago" Says George, "My wife and I saw you open for Gracie Abrams in March, you sounded amazing"
"So she knows how you left me?" George turned away from Kiana, who quickly realized his wife most likely didn't know who she truly was. "She doesn't know, does she? You never told her about me?!"
Almost as if she had sensed they were talking about her, George's wife, Denise, walked in. She froze in her place at the sight of Kiana, "Holy shit! Um, what are you doing here? I mean can I get you anything?"
"So she really doesn't know, you're a fucking coward"
"Don't speak to my husband like that!" Denise shouted at the singer.
"He's my father, he ran out on my mom and I when I was 11, I have the right to speak to him however I want"
Her face went white as she stared back and forth between her husband and Kiana. "George? Is that true?"
The man sighed and nodded, "Yes, but I was a different man back then. But look at her now, she became a talented woman"
"Yeah, I'm doing pretty fucking great for myself, I have a girlfriend who I love, friends who make me a better person, and a family I know will support me no matter what! You had no part in any of this, I became who I am no thanks to you"
Kiana stormed out of the house without saying another word and walked around the neighborhood to cool off. Kiana reached into her pocket for her phone but began to panic when she felt nothing, she panicked for five minutes before remembering she had left it back at the venue. Kiana was lost in Tennessee with no phone and no money.
Kiana reluctantly turned back and went back to George's house. She walked up the steps and knocked on the door, praying it would be Denise who answered and not her father, and it was.
"Kiana, you're back"
"I left my phone at the venue I played at tonight and I don't have any money on me. Can I use your phone to call my girlfriend?"
Denise agreed and led Kiana inside. "Can I get you anything? Coffee, juice, anything?"
Kiana shook her head, "No, I just want to call my girlfriend"
Denise handed the brunette her phone and left to check on her boys. Kiana put in Juliens number and called.
"Hello?" Julien answered, "Who's this?"
"Hey," Kiana's voice began to shake as she held back tears. "Can you uh, can you come get me?"
"Yeah, yeah, of course. Are you okay?"
She let out a rather dry laugh, "No, not really. I ran into my dad. He's not at all what I expected, he's a different man but..." Kiana tried to compose herself, not wanting Julien to hear her cry over the phone.
"Did he say something?"
"Can you just come get me? Think I'm at Westwood"
"Yeah, I'm on my way"
