→ FORTY
THE SCENERY IS ALMOST AS BEAUTIFUL AS LUKE, Cole thinks, as they quietly break out onto the cliff face and stare out over the ground below them. There's a glass balcony built into the cliff face, and Cole sits directly in the centre of it, his back against the rock
Luke smiles as he crouches down in front of Cole and drops his legs off the cliff edge. It's just the two of them, hopefully - they were expecting nobody else was famous or reckless enough to want to go out there, and therefore they had the place to themselves.
The rest of the group are halfway across the city, for a guess, and not even together - Kieran keeps tweeting stupid selfies of Michael in the massive Pokémon Centre shop he's always dreamed of visiting, and it is pretty cute to see, to be fair to the two of them. Cole only hopes that him and Luke won't affect everyone else in the group.
He doesn't want to be added to the list of Luke's bad exes. His stomach flips and turns everytime he thinks about that.
But equally, Cole doesn't want to be that person that everyone just wishes Luke would break up with, for his own happiness. Everyone's seen what a mess he is lately, and Cole doesn't want to be held responsible for that.
Luke presses his head into Cole's shoulder, making him jump out of his scared thought spiral instantly.
"Don't keep thinking, beautiful. Your mind's going to explode. Plus, we came here to escape the fans and all the obsessive people online, didn't we?"
Cole smiles softly, and tries to listen to what Luke says. Truth is, he can barely hear him over the shouting emo teenager in his mind, telling him that Luke will never love him properly, he's never going to be the one person he wants to stay with.
The look on his face is betraying him though. Luke keeps staring, and Cole can see his mind going, trying to figure it out, until he finally snaps.
"Look, Cole, can't you just get it together? This was supposed to be fun, and we're six days in, and all you've been thinking about is exactly what we came here to get away from!" There's an uneasy smile plastered on Luke's face as he finishes speaking, as if he's trying to seem like it actually isn't that big of a deal.
And he's so sick of being here, of smiling just for Luke, just so Luke doesn't try to hurt himself again, and Cole knows how fucking selfish he's being, and he doesn't care anymore as he stands up and walks away from Luke, from everything he should care about, and everything he doesn't care about anymore.
