Chapter 30: Prom (Part 2)
Elizabeth's POV
No way. This couldn't be happening. My eyes had to have been deceiving me.
I blinked a few times to see if she would go away, but she didn't. Her golden brown hair glistened in the dim gym light. A rare smile was on her face, glossed with light pink lipstick. She was almost unrecognizable with her long, purple dress. I had never seen her in a dress before.
"Cici?" I nearly screamed as I looked around to make sure Angel wasn't near, for his sake. I pulled away from Andrew carefully and ran toward Cici.
"Hey, Elizabeth," she said, her smile even bigger. "You look nice tonight."
"Thanks but, what are you doing here? You were in Connecticut."
"I had to see Angel again, Lizzy. I didn't know how much I needed him until now. Where is he?"
"I don't know. Maybe you would if you'd stayed!" I spat furiously. I didn't know what came over me, but my blood was boiling.
"What?" Cecile asked, surprised by my outburst. To be honest, I surprised myself.
"Everything would've been fine if you had stayed longer, Cecile. I'm tired of cleaning after the messes you make. Poor Angel showed up at my house drunk the night you left! He was a hot mess! And at the eighth grade formal, Max's birthday party, and tonight! I love Angel to death, but I can't handle it anymore!"
Some people stared as I yelled at Cici with fiery anger. What I said was true and I wasn't going to take it back. I didn't understand why she was so on again off again with Angel. If we were true friends, she would've told me why. But I guess we weren't as close as I thought.
"C'mon, Elizabeth. Let's step outside," Andrew said from behind, rubbing my arm. I saw a tear run down Cici's face. I couldn't feel bad for her now.

"I'm sorry you're on a date with Drama tonight," I said sadly as I looked to the ground. I felt ashamed that I was letting my thoughts get the best of me. I knew I couldn't keep things to myself without it exploding all at once, but I still did it.
"I'm on a date with Elizabeth Rivers, the girl who tries to keep things together. And maybe sometimes Drama might be third-wheeling, but I don't care. It was worth the wait," he whispered into my ear as he hugged me tight.
"That's the best thing anyone could have said to me at this moment, Andrew," I laughed as I stared into his warm eyes for the hundredth time. A satisfied smile formed on his perfect face.
Andrew started to lean in to kiss me before a guy started yelling at us.
"What's going on, Liz? Are we over? What the hell is this crippled pervert doing with you? Do I need to beat someone's ass up?" Blake yelled from a few feet away. He started jogging closer to us quickly.
"Hey, back off!" Andrew snapped, standing between Blake and I. Blake pushed Andrew back and he fell to the ground.
"Blake, what is wrong with you?!" I screamed angrily as I dropped to the floor to help Andrew up. I saw fire in his eyes. "Andrew, no. I can take care of this."
My words echoed in my mind. 'I can take care of this.' Could I really? Did I have to? Was this my problem? Yes. This was my problem.
I left Andrew on the ground so he wouldn't do anything stupid. As I stood up, I looked straight into Blake's familiar green eyes. He seemed intimidated by me, not the other way around.
"We're not okay, Blake. You know that. My feelings for you were true, but I was still empty inside. And now, I think I've found it. I'm not sure if it was what I was looking for, but it fills the space better than you did. We're over, and honestly, it is me. I didn't know what I needed until I found it."
I took off the heart necklace Blake had given me before our trip to the beach and handed it to him. He took it and left, like nothing had happened. And I never heard from him again.

"I'm here to apologize," I said. She looked at me with her same beady eyes.
"Spill it."
"I know what you meant by not knowing you needed Angel until now. I've had the same realization tonight. I'm sorry."
"I forgive you. But let me just say that I was being kind of a jerk, so I understand, too. One day when I'm ready, I'll explain. But first, I gotta find Angel."
"We'll look no further! He's onstage!"
Angel, Xavier, and Max were lined up onstage next to Karenella, Abby, and Josefina. Joey said she wasn't going to prom, but here she was onstage! She was wearing a short black dress with stylish red high heels. He outfit was perfect on her.
"As your Student Body President, I'm happy to announce this years Prom King and Queen!" Sophie said proudly into the microphone. Everyone started cheering wildly, especially Cici, Andrew, and I.
"Now, now. Settle down. This years Prom King is... Angel Smith!"
"Woo! Angel!" We screamed as Sophie placed the crown on Angel's head. We could see him tearing up.
"And our beautiful and elegant Prom Queen is... Josefina Guzman!"
Some people cheered, but most booed and screamed out 'whore' and 'slut.' It was terrifying. But Josefina kept a smile plastered on as she received her bejeweled crown.
"Now it's time for our Prom King and Queen to have their dance together!" Sophie said awkwardly as people kept booing. She looked at the DJ so he could start the slow music already.
But in an instant, Karenella ran up to Josefina and pushed her off the stage, and everything went blurry.
