Chapter 29: Independent (Part 2)

Elizabeth's POV

"Where is your ring?" Abby screamed at me while I was looking at Prom dresses. She had startled me; she hadn't said a word to me in the twenty minutes.

"It's no big deal, Abs," I responded calmly as I separated two dresses on hangers away from each other to get a better look.

"Did you lose it? OMG, Blake's gonna be so angry! We have to find a replacement!" She started to panic. Abby fanned her face to cool down.

"I didn't lose it; it's at my house," I mumbled before I gasped at the perfect dress. It was a light green and turquoise mermaid dress with a pattern from the torso to the waist that reminded me of peacock feathers. I immediately took the dress off the hanger and showed it to Abby.

"It's beautiful!" Abigail squealed as she jumped up and down. "You have to to try it on!" She shoved me into the tiny dressing room and closed the door. "Don't come out until you feel like a princess!" I sighed and started to put on the dress.

"Tell me why your ring is at your house. I know you're avoiding telling me something," Abby said. I groaned and started to spill.

"We just had a fight because he isn't going to Prom, well, he is, but it's for his Senior prank."

"Well, you're his girlfriend; convince him to go!" She yelled. I heard footsteps walking to her, but no one said anything after.

"He's been talking about it since Spring Break. And he'd probably planned it last school year. It means something to him."

"Yea, but Prom means something to you! Who are you going to go with?'

"I don't know; I'll figure it out." After I said that, I didn't hear Abby, so I guessed we must have been done talking.

As I looked at myself in the mirror, I was amazed to see how fitted it was. I usually don't wear clothes that show off my figure, but this dress certainly did. I loved it.

I opened the door and spun around for Abby until I saw that she wasn't there. Andrew was.

"What are you doing here?" I asked. I crossed my arms in front of the cleavage so he wouldn't start drooling.

"Will you go to Prom with me?" Andrew asked me as he held a dozen fuchsia roses to my face. He knelt down in his good leg and his crutches were beside him.

Behind Andrew, I could see that Jackson was restraining Abby from slapping Andrew across the face by hugging her so her face was on his shirt.

I looked into Andrew's dark brown eyes and saw something I had never seen before in those eyes: affection. I never thought Andrew could do something so nice, and if it was just to get under my dress, I wouldn't care, because this was the cutest thing anyone had done for me, well, after Blake's romantic evening.

Blake. What would I say to him if I went with Andrew? Nothing.

Blake is my boyfriend and I still do have feelings for Nick, but at least Andrew asked. That's all I wanted.

"Yes, I'd be glad to go to Prom with you," I responded. Andrew gave me the roses and attempted to get up smoothly, but I could see he was struggling.

I put the roses on the ground and helped Andrew stand up against the wall. Then I handed him his crutches so he could walk.

"Kiss!" Jackson yelled at us.

"Don't, please," Abby said when she finally got free of Jackson's hold. "I get one slap across the face and I'll be fine with this."

"Why do you hate me?" Andrew asked as she walked over to him.

"I don't hate you; you're funny and hot. I hate when you're a pervert!" She said right before she slapped him across the face.

"Damn! Are you some sort of street fighter?" Andrew said in pain as he rubbed his face.

"No, Just a cheerleader," Abby said with sass as she flipped her hair and walked a few feet away from us.

"Anyway, is this the dress you're gonna be wearing? It looks hot, I mean beautiful, on you," Andrew said with his eyes sparkling.

"I'm thinking about it," I replied. Then Abby came over and started to push him away from me.

"Okay, now. The groom can't see the bride before the wedding, so scram!" She reminded.

"Uh, this might be awkward but, Elizabeth, can you pick me up? I can't really drive..." he asked shyly. I hadn't seen this side of Andrew since the beginning of Middle School.

"Xavier's dad is renting a limo for us. It'll be no problem!" Abby chimed in before I could respond. I didn't even know about the limo.

"Oh, cool. Can't wait! See you girls later!" Jackson said.

"You're not coming. Who are you even going to bring to Prom?" Abby asked.

"Kathy Romerio."

"Sophie's cousin?! Have fun with that..."

I ended up getting the turquoise and green dress I tried on. I really tried to stop Abby from paying half of the cost, but she refused. She's way too generous; it gets annoying sometimes.

After Andrew and Jackson left, she kept talking about how Andrew was the perfect guy to get my mind off of Blake. I agreed; I just needed a break, and Prom night would be it. I would just have fun with my friends and Andrew. It's all I needed.

When we left the mall, I started to tell Abby about Josefina's situation and how Nicolas had come back. She asked if I still had feelings for him, but I said I wasn't sure. I really wasn't. It was still all confusing, and him coming back after almost a month made it even worse. She said to call her if I started overthinking.

She wanted to see all the people staying at my house, so we stopped by before she drove me back to her house to get my car.

Abby's POV

"Hey, the man of the hour!" I exclaimed I saw Nick and Angel talking.

"Oh, what did I do to earn this title?" Angel asked jokingly. I giggled at him and walked over to them.

"I hear you're back in town," I said with a small attitude. He couldn't just show up like this; Josefina and Elizabeth had too much going on right now. Actually, we all did.

"Uh, yea. I wanted to take Joey to Prom, but she doesn't want to go because..." Nick started to say.

"I know, I know. Anyway, was Elizabeth's fight with Blake that bad?" I sat down next to him and Angel left. He must have felt awkward since he can't handle serious discussions.

"Um, I don't know. She looked like she was looking forward to going to Prom with him, I guess. But then he came back after she left and..." He began before I cut him off.

"Wait, what? He came back? Why?"

"He was going to ask her out to Prom. He felt bad changed his mind, I guess."

Oh, this just got even messier.

NEXT CHAPTER IS PROM!!! OMG!!! I can't believe we've gotten this far, guys! Chapter 30! I'm so excited! I hope you guys are, too!

Sadly, this means IHCS is almost over. I'm only going to write a few more chapters after Chapter 30, but I'm hoping it'll end strong. I started feeling like writing this story was something I needed to do and I got Writer's Block, but I'm all good now and I'm really going to miss writing it.

Anyway, I hope you guys liked this chapter. I'll see you in the next one!
