Chapter Twenty Seven
After a fourteen hour flight, I was exhausted when the plane finally touched down in Atlanta. I had cried for hours, until I finally fell into a fitful sleep. So when I finally departed the plane, I was tired, grouchy, hungry, and had a killer headache.
"Y/N!"
I turned just in time to see my mom and freakishly tall brother running towards me. I almost dropped Onyx's leash as I was picked up and held in the tightest hug possible.
"Can't.. breathe..."
"Oh sorry."
My brother loosened his hold on me a little, but not by much. When he finally released me, I could see tears running down his face.
"Damn, did you miss me that much?" I teased.
He and my mom glared at me.
"We thought you were dead!" They exclaimed.
I immediately softened. "I know."
We stood there for several minutes before I spoke again.
"So can we leave now? It's been a long few days, and I'm exhausted."
After we picked up my luggage from the baggage claim, we began the long drive back to my hometown.
-----
I spent the next couple of weeks spending all of my time with family and old friends. I don't know who was happier about that fact, me or them. I had thought that I would never get the chance to see the people that I loved again, but to them I had just come back from the dead. But I knew that I could not stay in South Carolina forever. Eventually it was time for Onyx and I to begin the long drive back to Orlando.
I had just finished loading up my new Tahoe when my mom walked out of her house, Onyx following right behind her. I opened up the passenger door and buckled Onyx into the seat after he jumped into the vehicle.
"Do you have everything?"
I turned to my mom, giving her a big hug, holding on tight for a few moments. "Yes, I have everything."
She gave me a quick kiss on the cheek as I pulled away. I climbed into my car, waving as I pulled out of the driveway, heading back to the place I used to call home.
-----
A week later I was back at work. Because of the kidnapping, I had been put on desk duty until I was cleared by a psychologist. Today was going to be my first session, and I was dreading it.
"Y/N, you headed out?" I looked up to see my supervisor walking over. I sighed.
"Yeah, I was just about to leave."
He nodded. "Let me know how it goes ok? We miss you out there on patrol."
Twenty minutes later I found myself sitting in the waiting room of a local psychiatrist office.
"Y/N"
I stood up at the sound of my name, making my way over to the woman.
"My name is Dr. Johns. It is very nice to meet you."
I shook the hand that she offered, and followed her into her office. I took a seat in one of the chairs and waited for her to speak.
"So can you tell me what happened?"
"Well, in September I was involved in a major car accident. When I came to, I was on a ship in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. I was told that the people who had taken me had faked my death, and I would be marrying an unnamed idol in the coming months. They also threatened to hurt my family if I didn't cooperate."
She sat there in silence for several moments before she spoke. "You don't seem too upset by any of this."
I shrugged, "Honestly, the only thing that I hated was the fact that I couldn't see my family. Two of my best friends are still in Korea, and I was happy there."
"Then why did you choose to come back?"
There it was.
The question that I was hoping she wouldn't ask. I sat there in silence, trying to decide how I was going to answer it.
"Y/N."
"It wasn't my choice."
She appeared startled. "What do you mean?"
I blinked, trying to hold back the tears that were quickly threatening to spill. "Min Yoongi, the man I was engaged to, told me to leave. He said that he didn't want me there. So, I left."
"Did you want to stay with him?"
I could only nod as the tears began to run down my face.
