[ personality ]
vanessa is hot and cold. one moment she'll be a seductive and flirty woman, and the next she'll be as cold as ice, as withdrawn as possible. obviously being a survivor, victor, and ultimately a victim of the game, she's supremely fucked up. she's either being distructive and trying to forget her many, many issues, or she's consumed by haunting memories and she won't utter a word to anyone for days. oh yes, this darling girl is haunted more than anyone could ever imagine. oh wait, plenty of people could imagine since the victors were forced to be mentors.
let's get more into the rather
hot and cold nature of vanessa's
personality, shall we?
hot : oh yes, vanessa has always been a rather passionate and expressive person. before the games, she was rather wild and irresponsible, she'd and after she took a huge dive into drinking, occasionally drugs, and lots and lots of sex. yes it's so destructive. she can be loud and boisterous, but obviously that's just compensating for that fact that she's completely empty and broken inside. it's a rather tragic story, but vanessa's habits and coping mechanisms only made everything so much worse.
cold : vanessa can become cold as ice in one second. she has a rather withdrawn side to her. when everything becomes too much, vanessa hides from the world and everything she loves. sometimes she'll stay in her home for days, making no effort to interact with the outside world.
so yes, ness is a destructive and
fucked up girl. a victim and a victor
of the games that ruined her life.
[ how she won her game ]
a tragic and sadly true story. vanessa entered the games a young girl from district seven. most bets were placed against her and no one expected her to win. oh, but win she did.
the second the games started, vanessa ran straight for the blood bath. she dodged knives and axes, and magically she grabbed a back pack deeper into the center and made a run for it, a thrown dagger grazing the side of her arm as she fled the scene. luckily, vanessa had bandages in her back pack, so she quickly dealt with that, though it hurt like a bitch. she found a secluded cave, and prepared there. luckily, she struck gold with her back pack : medical supplied and five throwing knives.
the days passed by, seconds feeling endless and minutes feeling like an eternity. she kept a low profile, always on the run from little surprises from the game makers to keep her on her toes, but for a long time she was able to avoid interaction with people.
along the way, vanessa ran into a boy from district six, and they made a truce. they'd help each other out. together, the two of them lasted until there was only four people left. vanessa, the boy from six, and three careers (two female, one male ).
eventually, there was a stand off. fighting ensued and it ended with one male career dead, one of the female careers standing with an axe in hand, the boy from six standing with his weapons dropped and hands up. why? because the second female career was holding vanessa with a knife to her neck. oh boy. what a situation.
then in a flurry of movement, vanessa pulled one of her knives out of her hand and stabbed the career that was holding her in the side, grabbing the arm of the girl with the knife to prevent her throat from being slit. one female career dropped down, severely wounded. while the female career with the axe was distracted by her comrade being so severely wounded, the boy from six helped vanessa and charged the career, driving an arrow he picked up off the ground through her heart. but that wasn't all, vanessa wasn't done. she had more knives left. with one she brutally finished off the wounded career, and with the other, she murder her unknowing ally ruthlessly. with that, vanessa dropped to the ground, shaking violently and throwing up. and that was how she was crowned victor.

[ backstory ]
vanessa actually had a pretty amazing and easy childhood, which is rather rare in panem. she was raised in a small family of four. it was just her mother, her father, and her older sister, diane. everything was pretty swell. her father worked collecting lumber, her mother worked in an office that processed it. they had enough money, but not much extra. it was a rather boring and uneventful childhood that lead vanessa to become carefree and slightly wildly irresponsible.
of course there's one more tidbit of tragedy to add to vanessa's like. yes. you guessed it. young love helped fuck up vanessa too. andrew. oh, andrew, and how vanessa loved him so. it was young love. they started off childhood best friends, and by the time they were fifteen, it was clear their love was more than platonic. their love bloomed, and the minute vanessa turned eighteen, they got married in a small yet beautiful ceremony in the very woods that supplied district seven with the lumber that made its economy thrive. but oh... isn't fate a bitch? they were only married and living together for three months before vanessa was reaped. that was when vanessa's hell started. andrew was too old to volunteer for her, so into the games she went. her motivation through the whole purgatory that was the games was andrew. she needed to make it home. home to her lover. and she did! happy ending, right? wrong. andrew had taken comfort in another while vanessa was in the games. infidelity was the ruin of their marriage rather than the games. the annulment happened quickly and vanessa moved on with her life (if you can continue vanessa still actually living).
