The school day was normal, nothing amazing happened and the final bell rang announcing freedom to my ears. I walked down the hall playing human pinball with absolute strangers.
I avoided the bus, too many people to call me the little dead girl. Besides my house was only five minutes away from school.
"Penelope, right?" someone asked, disturbing the music blasting through my mind.
Him. That new kid who was so annoying. A mosquito buzzing in my and and stealing my blood, or time in this case.
"I'm Jak. Remember." he babbled.
"How could I forget? You nearly flattened me in halls." I said, uninterested in his chatter.
He gazed at me for a moment. His eyes searching me with a burning curiosity.
"Della."
The word was barely audible, but it sent a tremor through me. A tremor of fear, curiosity, and remembrance.
"Excuse me?" I said.
"Nothing. Nothing at all." Jak stammered.
"I'm sure of it."
This boy knew something. Something about me. Something that I felt like was sacred to me, and only me. This boy knew who I was, who I am. I can feel it.
"Who am I?" I asked, a fire burning inside me.
He looked around. Figures.
"Who am I?"
He stared at the ground, his pace quickening.
"Tell me what you know about me!" I screamed.
I blinked and the boy known to me as "Jak" had vanished like a mist.
