Identity
Every minute is crucial because by each passing second the hope for survival is getting drenched alike the physical bodies of Ayra, Kabir, Erica and Jheel which are completely drenched by flood water outwardly and fear from within .
"KB now I am freezing with cold" Erica said quivering .
"KB even I can't feel my legs anymore" Jheel added putting Kabir's heart into ultra panic mood .
"We try to walk faster , we will reach that place faster " Ayra spoke out .
"I can't walk anymore " Jheel finally spoke out and she tumbled backwards into the waters .
Erica held Jheel . Now both Jheel and Erica's luggage said adieu to them as their suitcases sank in the flood water .
Kabir , Ayra , Jheel and Erica now lost their way. Their spirit of fighting and hope to survive started fading away .
Kabir spotted a flooded café shop. All four somehow dragged their bodies to that café .
Erica and Jheel now were unconscious . Erica was literally turning pale while Jheel had a big bruise in her left leg probably due to a wound or cold water .
Ayra stated,"KB, I guess I will meet my Baba soon".
"Shut up , nothing will happen to you or anyone of us . Is that clear Tigress!" Kabir yelled .
"Any survivors here ? We are here to rescue" came a voice from outside .
Kabir saw a rescue boat . He then ran towards the boat but the officer informed him that they were first saving the citizens of their country and a next boat will rescue tourists or any other foreigners.
Kabir nodded his head after an hour another boat came but it got filled with only one spot left . Kabir left that empty spot because he could not leave his best friends selfishly .
Kabir started feeling himself burning with high fever and it was getting increasingly difficult for him to keep his eyes open .
Another hour passed , Ayra was now tried and full of fright sensing environment of near death and dismay .
Kabir came literally running inside , "Ayra!I saw a boat at a distance , let's catch it up".
Ayra picked up Erica somehow while Kabir took Jheel in his arms .
Then they madly ran towards the boat . The man on the boat asked ,"What's your identity ?".
"Indian!" Kabir and Ayra yelled together .
"Show me your passports or any other identity proof" demanded the man .
"We lost our passports and Identity cards in the floods , we don't even have clothes or food" Kabir replied .
"Then we can't help you what if you have trespassed the border and now you all are making up stories " the man coldly replied and went away with his boat .
Ayra broke into tears while Kabir stood still in disbelief .
All hopes now ended . No one was around to help . Erica and Jheel opened their eyes miraculously . Kabir and Ayra hid their tears from them .
"We will now die that too in a foreign land with no loved ones around , I wish I could breath my last in my own country, my homeland" Jheel cried .
Hearing Jheel, the other 3 couldn't hold back tears now and they cried in helplessness and misery .
They saw several dead bodies floating on the water just few meters away from them .
Amid the cacophony of tragedy and turmoil four restless souls looked at the whithered faces of each other, their hearts thudding hard and their spirits fearing to face the Identity Crisis looming around.
A helicopter flew above them . Ayra spotted something on it and her eyes lit up . She yelled ,"We are here ! please help us!".
Kabir turned around and he too felt happy . He shouted, "Help us ! India! We are Indians".
It was a helicopter belonging to Indian Airforce with the national flag painted on it's exterior .
Erica and Jheel too saw the helicopter . They too tried to yell and wave their hands along with Kabir and Ayra .
Luckily , the pilot spotted them and they got rescued .
Ayra and Kabir spoke out to the army men,"We lost our passports and other stuff but we assure you that we are Indians ,we can also sing the national anthem as a proof . Four of us are Indians and we do not belong to any other Asian country".
An Army man laughed and he said ,"Nationality is the part of existence but humanity is all above it even if you belonged to any other country we will would have helped you out ".
Kabir hugged this soldier as his emotions got better of him and Kabir felt a wave of national pride.
"Nationality is the part of our existence but humanity is the part of soul . Borders are build by humans but men are created by God . Remember in any foreign land nobody asks you what's your religion rather they ask what's your nationality . Nationality gives you an identity and only Humanity helps you in Identity Crisis" spoke out Kabir while narrating his tale to his batchmates , seniors and juniors at college while getting facilitated for his courage along with Ayra , Erica and Jheel.
Ayra looked up with her eyes closed for a while and saying in her mind ,"Baba I found my true identity today , I feel proud to be an Indian . You were right Baba when you said 'Live for the country , die for the country and protect humanity because no country can survive without a sense of humanity' .
Ayra further thought, "Now I understand that Identity's coin has two sides , one side is Nationality and other side is Humanity , these sides/faces / dimensions of Identity help us when any Identity Crisis looms around in any part of the world irrespective to Era of time everything is similar only the generation or the people living may be different in accordance to time , place and circumstances" .
Ayra took out something from her bag's pocket during recess .
Kabir asked Ayra curiously, "Hey Tigress! what is that? I guess it's a friendshipband ?"
Ayra replied," It's a rakhi (a band which is tied by a sister to honour his brother for protecting her from all evil of the world).
Jheel added," Are you going to tie this on Kabir's wrist?".
Kabir's face paled hearing Jheel as Kabir could be anything but not Ayra's brother.
Ayra laughed and said," Chill KB! This is not for you .It belongs to a brave brother who saved me and all of us ".
Everyone looked at Ayra with confusion.
Ayra replied, "It belongs to the Ticket Collector Shyam . That night when he died , this slipped from his wrist .Probably his sister must have tied this rakhi on his wrist ".
Ayra continued, " I have kept this rakhi with me in his remembrance .To remember a brother of mine from a bond of humanity instead of a blood relation".
Kabir ,Erica and Jheel smiled agreeing to Ayra.
Four of them now finally understood what true identity implies .Identity of any person is incomplete with humanity, just like a body without a soul.
