30: Arrival Day at The Last Paradise
After checking in, they received the boarding pass. Arina got the seat next to Ami, though she secretly traded hers to Teppei, and had to sit with Seo as a result.
"Oh, it's you again, Seo. I'm bored with you already," said Arina dolefully.
Meanwhile, Juria clutched her boarding pass with the seat number as she secretly hope she'd get to sit with Asano. Wandering around asking people about their seats and eventually, she realized it was actually Shirayuki Sae that was going to be her seatmate! As it drove Juria into madness.
Upon hearing Juria had to sit next to Sae, Ren immediately asked Sae to trade seats with him, though, this girl replied with 'No. I like how my existence's the reason others suffer. Especially you.'
Ren went mad at a girl for the first time in his life. But Juria opted to switch her seat with Tanaka Sekai this time. Why? Because Tanaka got a seat right behind Asano, and Juria couldn't make it obvious that she had feelings for Asano by asking Ren -- who sit with Asano -- to switch with her.
After eavesdropping, Ren went to Fujii and demanded he switch seats with him, so he could sit next to Juria.
Therefore, after a little rearrangement, it went like this: Arina sit with Seo; Ami sit with Teppei; Juria sit with Ren; Tanaka sit with Sae; Asano sit with Fujii, etc.
The flight from Japan to Bali was around 7 hours and it was a direct flight. After passing through the airport security gates to the departure hall, the kids had to wait for another half hour until they can get on the airplane.
"I'm ecstatic beyond measure that I'm going to experience living in a sunshiny paradise for three days, Seo -- ECSTATIC! I'm afraid that—" Arina talked nonstop while the plane was about to take off. They were sitting in the center seats in the row in front of Asano and Fujii and the rest were all behind.
Being overwhelmed by Arina since yesterday, Seo quickly turned to the two guys and demanded Fujii switch places with Arina.
"Oh, Seo, even though I admit I got bored of you, it still hurts when you want to get rid of me like that," mourned Arina. And that's how she got to sit with the so-wanted Asano Gakushuu, to which not only Juria was shrieking internally.
"I will have my eyes on you," groaned Juria from behind in an undertone, whilst Ren attempted to flirt with her but failed miserably.
Apparently, the girlfriends that were supposed to support Juria getting with Asano — Tanaka Sekai and Morikawa Mika — also secretly fumed in jealousy. Sae who was sitting next to Tanaka was thinking about how the plane's engine worked in detail, completely lost in her head and again fading into the background.
Asano was sitting in the window seat with his arms crossed and Arina sat down on the aisle seat next to him and immediately continued with what was left for Seo to hear.
Though Asano no longer found her annoying this time. He sat there with a cool composure whilst listening to Arina gingerly, and sometimes he'd even reply to her. Ever since that bus accident, he had come to a point where he realized he loved Arina, although in a platonic way; and felt obliged to always be there to advise her.
"Asano-kun, are you supposed we might be kindred spirits in some ways although you don't look very much like it? You don't find it right out at first, as in Ren's case, but after a while you come to see it. Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It's splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world."
"Kind-Kindred spirits!?" cursed Juria under her breath. She appeared to have been listening to their conversation all along. Ren touched her in an intimate way but brutally got shoved away.
"Nonsense. That's not even a thing," replied Asano, who can't bring himself to believe in such vague things, to which Juria sighed in relief.
On the left side of the row and behind, Teppei was rather nervous when Ami was randomly debating about whether Americans were the first ones to land on the moon or if they were just faking it to impress the world that they were better than the Orlas.
'She's random as hell, but I got this,' thought Teppei, wiping a sweat on his forehead, careful not to waste the opportunity his friend made for him.
Arina talked for a while until she decided to take a nap to make up for her sleepless night. However, once she fell asleep, her head kept slumping to either the aisle side or to Asano's, as she immediately pulled it back up, only for it to slump again, causing her sleeping expression to went slightly irritated. Luckily Juria had gone to the restroom by the time to not witnessed this.
Upon seeing Arina struggling, Asano stroked the back of her head and gently placed it on his shoulder, only for her to shoot her eyes open and jolt right back up.
"O-oh my, I'm SO sorry, Asano-kun. I didn't mean to lean on you like that because I bet my head weight must be a huge burden. Oh, Asano-kun, I think there's something wrong with me. There are times when I would always be so prepared and times when I am not! Like how I forgot Mr. Pooh at home during urgent times like this. See, he's a neck pillow. Do you suppose without him I shall challenge myself to stay awake until we arrived?"
Asano was about to tell her how she could just lay on his shoulder when his sense of nobility held him back, thinking it might be improper.
"Whatever, do as you like," he shrugged.
Little did they know Ren was watching the whole scene and an idea suddenly popped up in his head. 'What if the same case also happens to Juria when she opts to take a nap? Then would she borrow my shoulder? But what if she doesn't want to take a nap?' thought Ren nervously.
Unfortunately, ever since Juria came back from the restroom, she never let her guard down observing Arina's intentions. Though, all the foreign girl did was just reading on her kindle.
"What're you reading?" asked Asano, smiling whilst also reading a book himself.
"I'm glad that you ask, it's a book called Homo Deus, Asano-kun! The topic of how mankind will continue to evolve has always interested me. It's pretty frightening too if you care about the sake of this planet as much as I do. You always know something is worth the fright when it's possible, haven't you? Do you think humanity would become immortal someday? It's one of the possibilities that I personally find very interesting."
Asano went into an in-depth analysis of it as Arina exploited the way his mind works by kept bringing up various kinds of topics. She seemed to enjoy his logical analysis as much as he did with being engaged in challenging topics. Eventually, Juria lost her interest in spying on Arina and turned to chat with Tanaka Sekai, completely ignoring the poor Ren.
"I don't know, Juria, I have a feeling they just see each other as friends," whispered Tanaka, who was sitting in the center seats next to the aisle.
"Yeah, I do very hope so," Juria rolled her eyes, crossing her arms. Morikawa Mika sitting behind her also barged in.
"Well, here's my idea, Juria. Since Arina is now close with Asano-kun, why don't you fake being her friend so you could protrude more into his life?"
"That's what I thought too," said Tanaka, grinning maliciously.
It was already five hours into the journey and Ren still failed to make an advance move on Juria. Seo and Fujii were trash talking Torii and Teppei was vlogging Ami watching Spongebob on the IFE. The K squad members happened to sit close to each other as they played cards with each other. Sae was unbothered by the gossip girls next to her whilst planning the entirety of her life ahead in her mind. Meanwhile, Arina failed to keep up with the challenge as she found another way to fall asleep without her head slumping.
She pulled the tray table out and buried her face in her arms on it. Asano noticed as he squared his shoulders and sighed. A hand of his ran down her hair and to her back, patting it. But again, Arina jolted right back up.
"Oh my, Asano-kun! I'm so relieved it's you. I was imagining all sorts of things before falling asleep. One of them was me being put a spell on by a witch and I am forever cursed with never awakened again. When your hand laid on me I thought that witch was up to something but thank god it wasn't her."
"Arina, it seems like you can't distinguish between reality and your imagination," said Asano disapprovingly, folding his arms.
"Well, on the positive side it's a way to spice up reality — you will feel the thrills running through your veins all the time and it sure does worth that spark of imagination. Oh, Asano-kun, I would love to call you Gakushuu. I saw how your name is written down and I can't help but think how brilliant it is."
"No. I don't approve of whoever calls me by my first name, especially at school. Plus, it might cause some misunderstanding since we are not that close."
"See, Asano-kun? We could imagine you were my best friend."
"I couldn't," said Asano grimly.
"So you never imagine things different from what they are?" asked Arina wide-eyed.
"No."
"Oh!" Arina drew a long breath. "Oh, miss — Asano-kun, how much you miss!"
"I don't believe in imagining things different from what they really are," retorted Asano.
One more hour until they landed and Arina was dead asleep on the tray table when the entire seats in her area were alarmed by a crying child.
At first, no one said a word about it, though when it got increasingly more annoying, Asano was about to walk to the mother to tell her to calm her child down for the sake of the public when Arina opted to do the job herself.
She sprang up and went to the baby girl and gifted her a candy she made. And it worked like magic! That baby girl stopped crying, and the mother thanked her with as much gratitude as one could imagine.
Arina kissed the little girl's cheek and went back to the bewildered Asano, who couldn't fathom how much power sweets possessed. Or perhaps it was her people skills and charm? He could've done that too!
"I was gonna save this for the entirety of our trip but I just gave away twenty of them and it felt great, Asano-kun!" said Arina delightfully, putting away her candies.
Not long after that baby girl excitedly came back to Arina and asked her to open a water bottle for her which added more to Asano's jealousy. Though, little did people know Arina's arm strength wasn't that great.
'Why's this so tightly closed?' thought Arina, gritting her teeth.
Asano looked as though he was waiting for something, and finally got what he wanted.
"Asano-kun, can you open this for us?" said Arina resignedly, handing him the water bottle.
Asano smirked and delivered his fake perfect facade face to the baby girl. "Big brother is going to help you with this, okay?"
Without answering, the girl nodded as Asano was going to open it when Arina quickly barged in.
"Asano-kun, after you open this, leave the cap there and do not lift it. Then you will return it and say you couldn't open it either, then Mio-chan will twist and open it with ease, and tada! She will believe in herself now. I do hope you will corporate on this, Asano-kun." whispered Arina to his ear.
But why would Asano corporate on this if it means degrading his important public image?
He ignored Arina and twisted open the cap and lifted it, to which Arina easily went mad at him. From then on, she had a realization that nothing in the world matters to him as much as himself.
The plane finally landed and Arina was too overjoyed with excitement that she was on the verge of fainting. Asano stood up and took his suitcase down.
"Seo, take the suitcase down for Arina," he commanded, as Seo clicked his tongue and unreluctantly searched for her suitcase and got it down.
"There you go, drag it yourself," said Seo, passing Arina's suitcase to her.
"Thank you Seo! I do hope we're going to have splendid times together!" beamed Arina gleefully, clasping her hands before her. "Oh, HOPE isn't the right word it seems, more like WILL have to!"
But it wasn't even on the first day of their Bali trip that Arina got vomited on by Akeboshi (again) during the time she was sitting next to him on the bus to their resort.
She was turning to Teppei to ask how were things between him and Ami going, to which he replied 'no' when that incident happened (which was predictable anyway). Juria was laughing her ass off and so were Tanaka Sekai and Morikawa Mika (Seo too, of course). The rest of the bus sat there facepalming, thinking of a solution to get rid of the so-called 'barf guy'. The janitor man -- yes, the Catholic one -- was also pushed by the chairman to go on this trip just to be Akeboshi's personal barf wiper. He was considering quitting his job but the money the chairman offered was too much for one to ask for.
Arriving at the resort, the first thing Arina did was rush to the lobby's restroom to clean herself. The rest received their room numbers and were guided to their rooms, which were one for each.
Arina stayed on the same floor as Seo Tomoya, Shirayuki Sae, Torii Hidetoshi, and two of Juria's supporters: Toda Sejiro and Mori Iori, with Seo being her neighbor.
"You again, Seo!?" gasped Arina, when about to unlock the door to her room and saw Seo doing the same thing with the room next to her.
"I reckon fate set us up way too much! Oh boy, or perhaps Seo-- perhaps we got things unresolved in our past life, don't you believe so?"
On this arrival day, class 2-A didn't have to do anything besides relax and enjoy the resort facility, including the beach outside. It was already dusk when Arina swiftly changed into her swimsuit, which was in rashguard style that covered her entire body, and fled to the beach and jumped into the seawater.
'I LOVE this place!' Arina told herself in excitement whilst laughing cheerfully. She refused to believe this paradise exist on the same planet as her gloomy hometown and felt excruciatingly bad for her people.
"Arina!" called Minami Mei, waving at her. She was wearing a pink bikini causing many teenage guys on the beach to drool at her.
Yano Takaaki -- the 'Okajima' of class 2-A -- was putting binoculars up to his eyes and scanning around the area when he spotted Mei and whistled at her.
"Nice swimsuit, Minami! Next time, wear something more revealing!"
Mei winced at him in disgust and so was Arina, who even though a people-loving person she couldn't bring herself to like Yano in any way.
By that time, Arina, Mei, and Yano were the only people on the beach when everyone in the class was enjoying something else in the resort. Seo was strolling around with Teppei filming a vacation vlog and Koyama was visiting each classmate's room to memorize their room number like a creep. Asano was attending a bar as though he was a grown-up and scanned around the place for an important figure to further extend his social network. Juria along with Tanaka and Morikawa was getting a manicure whilst Ren also happened to be there and insisted on paying for them which the girls seized the chance and exploited his wallet. Ami was flexing her skill with the claw game machines to her guy friends' amazement, to which the K-squad members who were there for the machine slot games had to stop and joined in gaping at Ami's talent. And while the other majority of students were spending time in the cinema, Shirayuki Sae was spending time in her room, laying on the bed thinking about how the investments worked for this big resort for it to gain profit and calculating the number.
The next day arrived, and so was the trip to the Monkey Forest. Class 2-A divided into their groups and followed their homeroom teacher Gojou Botan to the bus and were introduced to their tour guide who was a Balinese.
From the way he dress, everyone could tell he was a hippie. The first thing he did was gather the kids into a photo shoot and demand they give him a peace sign. Most of them unreluctantly did what he told them to get over it.
"Alright, students from Kunugigaoka Junior High! My name is Edirusdiman ('how are we supposed to spell that!?' some thought) and I'm gonna be your tour guide from now on! I believe it's very important to love each other and don't ever dare to disturb the peace. Swear it to me" — his facial expressions suddenly turned full-mode devil making some kids gulp — "So here is the information about the Monkey Forest we are about to visit—"
There he went on explaining about the destination, but Arina Avenira was too lost to the overloaded loveliness outside from her window seat that she completely left out whatever Edirusdiman was giving information to.
In her imagination, she saw herself turning the whole world into a united sunshiny paradise with joyful laughter from the common folks.
