"Daddy, let's go pick some flowers!" I yelled.
"I want to stay with Mommy though, Serena. We've been playing all day," Daddy replied.
"But... but it's my sixth birthday! Pretty please with a cherry on top?" I asked, staring at Daddy with my glistening eyes.
"Okay, only if Mommy goes with us," Daddy answered.
"Yay! Family trip!" I cheered, running to Mommy's room.
I always had a hard time opening Mommy's door because the doorknob was so high. I managed to jump and hold onto it, though. I turned it to the right and pushed the door open.
"Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!" I chanted, running in front of her television screen.
I jumped over the Pokémon battle, and she groaned. She was sitting on her queen-sized bed. There was a little white bench in front of it.
"What, sweetie?" She asked, irritated. "I was watching the championship game. It's Diantha versus Steven."
"Mommy, Daddy said that he'll only go picking flowers with me if you come with us! Can we please go?" I replied.
"Tell Daddy that I'm not going. I told you that I have to watch this battle today, remember?" Mommy answered.
"But Mommy, it's my sixth birthday! Don't you want to congratulate me being six?" I asked.
"Oh, fine. Let me make sure the match is recording." Mom smiled.
"Yay!" I cheered.
I sprinted out of Mommy's room and went to Daddy.
"Daddy, Mommy's going to go!" I smiled.
"Really?" Daddy asked, surprised. "Okay then, I wasn't expecting that. You amaze me every day, Serena."
"I know I do!" I chuckled.
Daddy was watching the Pokémon game too. His green eyes were staring at the TV. He left the white, leather couch behind, and walked towards the front door. I followed him. When we got to the door, we both saw our tennis shoes. We put them on and smiled at each other.
Mommy came from behind us, and she smiled.
"Aren't you guys the duo?" She chuckled.
"Sure, Grace," Daddy laughed.
"Let's go!" I yelled, opening the front door.
I dashed outside. The Kalosian air blew my honey-blonde hair all over the place. I just chuckled and smiled.
"They're over here by this mountain!" I explained, dashing down the sidewalk.
Daddy and Mommy sprinted after me.
"Hey, wait up! We don't have to run!" Mommy yelled.
"Are you saying you're weak?" I asked, running backward.
"Look where you're going, Serena!" Daddy ordered.
I turned around. I was about to trip over a rock.
"Thanks, Daddy!" I smiled.
"No problem," Daddy smiled weakly.
"Oh, look at this flower!" I cheered, picking up a blue daisy-shaped flower. "It looks like Mommy's eye!"
"I don't know if I should take that as a compliment or an insult," Mommy chuckled.
She took the flower from my hand. The petals blew out in the wind, flying past the sun.
Timeskip
"Serena, wake up! You have school today, remember?" Dad asked.
I rubbed my hands over my eyes and soon opened them. Dad's emerald eyes were staring at my cerulean ones.
"Right, I forgot," I chuckled.
"New school, new experiences, new friends." Dad smiled.
"Of course, that's the fun part!" I smiled.
I walked in my closet as Dad left my room.
The closet had a big mirror on the side wall. The other walls were covered with clothes. Thanks to Dad's job, we could afford a bigger house than what we were used to. It was two stories, but it had two master bedrooms. One was on the bottom floor, and the other was on the top. Since I'm an only child, I got a master bedroom all to myself. That's off topic, though. Back to picking out clothes.
I looked around the room, and I found a nice black top. I faced the other wall, and I saw a bright red skirt. I grinned as I took the two items off their hangers.
I left the room and looked at my dresser. I opened the top drawer and took out some gray to-the-knee socks. On the floor, were the typical black shoes that I wore every day.
I soon put on all the chosen clothes, and I smiled at my reflection in the mirror.
I would become new at this school. I had a chance to change my attitude and habits. A chance to start all over. Somewhere inside my mind made me think back to my six-year-old self. How I've changed, and how I've become. As I looked in the mirror, the reflection showed my old self back at me. My mind was also showing how I've stayed the same, and how some of me had to stay the same to still be myself.
Shaking my head at my nonsense, I picked up my pink purse, put my phone in it, and went downstairs.
"What do you want for breakfast?" Dad asked, twirling a fork with two fingers.
"I guess pancakes," I chuckled.
"Coming right up!" Dad laughed.
"You can sit at my table, Serena. Make this a table of two instead," Mom giggled, playing along.
"Sure, Mom!"
We all blasted out laughing. Dad put Mom's waffles in the toaster, and put my pancakes in the microwave.
"What are you having, Dad?" I asked.
"I already ate." Dad smiled. "I had pancakes, too."
"When the waffles are chocolate chip you can't refuse," Mom shrugged.
"Pancakes are so tasty, though," I chuckled.
"True," Mom agreed.
Dad soon gave us our meals, and we ate super fast.
"Have fun at school, Serena!" Dad called, watching me leave the house.
"Yup, love you!" I yelled.
"Love you too!"
"Bye, sweetie!" Mom announced.
"Bye!"
I closed the door with a smile on my face, ready to start the day.
"Let's see what today has in store for me." I smiled.
I started walking down the sidewalk determinedly. I looked over the left. No more mountain and flowers, just houses. Over to my right, I saw more houses. Even though I live in a neighborhood now and not as rural, I still miss it a lot. I knew all the Pokémon there, we were best friends. I've lived here for one or two months now, but it's still sad not seeing Ralts or Spoink laughing and smiling. I'm sure they still are, though, just not where I can see it.
I watched another girl get out of her house ahead of me. She had blue hair. In her hair, she placed two golden hair clips. The girl didn't seem to be saying bye to any family members as I did. I shrugged.
I walked past the road to the other sidewalk so the girl could have some space. Ahead of both of us, a boy with brown hair and some type of lab coat walked out of his house. That's weird, who would wear a lab coat to school? Whatever, I guess it's a tradition here. Wait, no, that couldn't be, the blue-haired girl didn't wear a lab coat. I guess that boy's just weird.
"Hey, who are you?" The girl called from the other side of the road. "I haven't seen you around."
"Come over here and we can walk together," I replied.
"Okay!" She smiled.
Looking at both sides of the road, she walked over towards me.
"I'm Dawn," She explained.
"I'm Serena. I just moved in a month or two ago," I replied.
"Really? How haven't I seen you?" Dawn asked.
"No clue," I shrugged. "I'm usually outside a lot, too."
"Who knows," Dawn chuckled. "Do you know anyone here except me?"
"Nope," I responded. "I'll meet more people at school, though."
"That's the spirit!" Dawn smiled. "I'm pretty sure there's another new kid this year, too. You two can probably become friends."
"Yeah, okay," I nodded. "How far away until we're at school?"
"It's right there," Dawn giggled, pointing forward.
Ahead was a school with a large arch in front of it. Implanted in the stone, there were letters carved. They spelled out, "Ashborne High School".
"That's it!" I smiled, dashing to the school.
"Wait for me!" Dawn chuckled, sprinting after me.
I chuckled as I stood by the front doors to the school. Dawn chased after me.
Before she caught up, a boy with raven black hair passed me. He was focused on the ground, not looking up to check if anyone was about to run into him. I moved over to my right to give him space. He turned in my direction, nodded, and smiled. I smiled back.
"Thank you," He said, and walked into the building.
As soon as the door closed, Dawn walked up to me.
"That dude is hot!" Dawn screeched.
"Good lord, are you okay?" I asked.
"He's the other new kid!!" Dawn yelled, fangirling. "Aw, your checks are red!"
"What? No, they aren't, you're just trying to get me to blush," I argued. "Besides, I'm not going to say I like someone who literally only smiled at me and said thank you."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever. Anyways, let's go inside the school. We need to be in Pokémon Type class soon," Dawn suggested.
"Okay." I smiled, following her lead into the high school.
