n + sequence: a set of events, actions, numbers, etc. which have a particular order and which lead to a particular result:
Ex: He described the sequence of events leading up to the robbery
n + concerto: a piece of music for one or more solo instruments playing with an orchestra:
Ex: a piano concerto.
n + precede: to happen before sth or come before sth/sb in order
+ lecture (in / on sth): to give a talk or a series of talks to a group of people on a subject, especially as a way of teaching in a university or college:
Ex: She lectures in Russian literature.
n + lobby: a large area inside the entrance of a public building where people can meet and wait
n + refreshment: refreshments [pl.] drinks and small amounts of food that are provided or sold to people in a public place or at a public event:
Ex: Light refreshments will be served during the break.
n + Pass: an official document or ticket that shows that you have the right to enter or leave a place, to travel on a bus or train, etc.:
Ex: a boarding pass (= for a plane). There is no admittance without a security pass.
+ escort:
1. a person or group of people or vehicles that travels with sb/sth in order to protect or guard them
2. [C] (formal or old-fashioned) a person, especially a man, who takes sb to a particular social event
n + accompany: (formal) to travel or go somewhere with sb:
Ex: His wife accompanied him on the trip.
n + cooperation: willingness to be helpful and do as you are asked:
Ex: We would be grateful for your cooperation in clearing the hall as quickly as possible.
n + Purchase: something that you have bought
n + checkout: the place where you pay for the things that you are buying in a supermarket:
Ex: a checkout assistant / operator
+ receipt (for sth): a piece of paper that shows that goods or services have been paid for:
Ex: Can I have a receipt, please?
n + Return: the action of giving, putting or sending sth/sb back
n + renowned (as / for sth) famous and respected
n + To finance: to provide money for a project
n + turnout: the number of people who attend a particular event:
Ex: This year’s festival attracted a record turnout.
n + parade: a public celebration of a special day or event, usually with bands in the streets and decorated vehicles
n + Mayor: the head of the government of a town or city, etc., elected by the public:
Ex: the Mayor of New York.
+ barbecue:
1. a metal frame for cooking food on over an open fire outdoors:
Ex: I put another steak on the barbecue. A barbecue sausage (= cooked in this way)
2. an outdoor meal or party when food is cooked in this way:
Ex: Let’s have a barbecue!
n + firework: a small device containing powder that burns or explodes and produces bright coloured lights and loud noises, used especially at celebrations
n + session: a period of time that is spent doing a particular activity
n + head first: moving forwards or downwards with your head in front of the rest of your body: He fell head first down the stairs.
n + To tour: to travel around a place
n + Luxury: a thing that is expensive and enjoyable but not essential
n + recipe (for sth): a set of instructions that tells you how to cook sth and the ingredients (= items of food) you need for it
+ Assemble: to fit together all the separate parts of sth, for example a piece of furniture: Ex: The shelves are easy to assemble.
+ measure (sb/sth) (for sth) : to find the size, quantity, etc. of sth in standard units/linking verb [v-n] (not used in the progressive tenses) to be a particular size, length, amount, etc.:
Ex: The main bedroom measures 12ft by 15ft.
n + ingredient (of / in / for sth) one of the things from which sth is made, especially one of the foods that are used together to make a particular dish
n + bake sth (for sb) | bake (sb) sth to cook food in an oven without extra fat or liquid
n + Taste: the sense you have that allows you to recognize different foods and drinks when you put them in your mouth
n + hang (sth) (up) [+adv. / prep.]
to attach sth, or to be attached, at the top so that the lower part is free or loose
+ speech (on / about sth) a formal talk that a person gives to an audience: Ex: to give / make / deliver a speech on human rights
