Obsidian Fates

Obsidian Fates is an open-world fantasy RPG. Set in the kingdom of Vethys you, the MC, are called the Executioner. In Vethys there are three species that all hate each other. Humans, Vampires, and Demons. Among these three races there are multiple factions. To name a few among the humans there are the King's Official Hunters-officially certified people who take assignments from the King to kill Vampires and Demons alike, next are the Bounty Hunters-uncertified people who take commissions from the common folk but they're equally on wanted posters as much as infamous Vampires and Demons. For Vampires there are the Queen's Courtly Knights-the official soldiers of the Vampire Queen's army who fight on the frontlines against humans, next are the Bloodstained Overlords-nobles in the Queen's court who have conquered and enslaved human territories in the name of Vampire kind. And finally for Demons there are the Knights of Shadow-the law enforcement for the Demonic Empire who also fight as soldiers on the frontlines, and the Silver Fae-intelligence agents who hide among humans and Vampires to gather valuable war intel. But there are plenty more factions among the three races than just those. But anyway onto the story.

Before awaking you hear a voice say "An interesting development. Shall we move onto the next part of my plan 'Your Majesty'?". Then, you open your eyes. You find yourself in an odd crystal tub filled with water. You step out of the tup and over to a strange mirror in the room you're in. This is where you choose the gender of your protagonist. Though you'll first see the male protagonist when you look in the mirror. When you choose your protagonist you step away from the mirror and find a sword on the ground that you pick up and see an inscription on the hilt. This inscription is your name. When you read the inscription and remember your name the sword vanishes but you oddly know you'll see it again at the end of your journey. A new sword materializes in front of you and you grab it and take it with you.

As you leave the room you see a gates with an inscription above it reading 'This is the dwelling of the Executioner. Enter at your own peril'. You then continue walking not knowing where you're going but knowing you need to get there. As you walk you meet a boy in a black and red outfit. He introduced himself as Matthew Galloway. You introduce yourself as well and ask where the nearest settlement is. Matthew looks you up and down and says there's a human city called SnowBelt not too far away from where you two currently are. Matthew points you in the direction of SnowBelt. You thank him and continue walking. As you walk away Matthew looks at you from behind with intrigue saying something to himself about informing the Queen. He walks off in the opposite direction.

You continue walking to SnowBelt but strange creatures appear on the way. You fight the creatures and they die fairly quickly. Suddenly a male voice comes out from the shadows. And a young man comes out of the bushes. He introduces himself as Gabriel a resident and one of the King's Official Hunters. Gabriel asks where you're from and you reply that you don't know. Gabriel suspects you have amnesia and offers to lead you to SnowBelt so you can ask around for any leads as to who you might be. You take Gabriel up on that offer but before you can leave a group of those strange creatures, that Gabriel calls Byproducts, appears. You and Gabriel fight them off easily and Gabriel compliments your ability with a sword. He even says you have the capability of being on the the King's Official Hunters. Gabriel says he'll take you the rest of the way to SnowBelt and that if you want he'll put in an official request to the King to see if he'll take you one as one of his Official Hunters.

The two of you make it to SnowBelt where you see a post board full of requests to kill Vampires and Demons. All of which have high pay. You ask Gabriel why there are so many requests on the board if the King's Official Hunters take care of things like this. Gabriel explains that the requests on the board weren't as important if the King wasn't giving them to his Official Hunters directly. The only people who take the requests from the board are Bounty Hunters who aren't officially certified by the King. Therefore they have wanted posters as well as the 'infamous' Vampires and Demons on request boards like this. You question why the King wouldn't view every request to kill a dangerous Vampire or Demon as important since both races are very dangerous to the human way of life. Gabriel says that everyone needs to have priorities. Even the King. And the King prioritizes the well being of his kingdom first. Gabriel then walks away and you start questioning the King's morality as you follow.

Gabriel takes you to a nearby restaurant where he pays for a 'Welcome to SnowBelt' meal for you. Which you accept.

After your meal you go with Gabriel to the KOH Office where people wanting to become one of the King's Official Hunters go to be trained and tested to see if they're right for the job. You ask how much the job pays and Gabriel admits that it's not as much as Bounty Hunters make but the real payment is protecting Vethys from the dangerous threat of the Vampires and Demons. You two go inside the office and meet Carmilla. Gabriel introduces the two of you and tells Carmilla about your combat prowess. Carmilla tells you she's impressed and that it's not an easy feat to impress her. You nodded and Carmilla asked for you to show your combat prowess. You ask if you can say no. You don't mention that it's because you don't necessarily trust the King's Official Hunters due to the King's 'moral code'. Carmilla respects your wishes and decides just to take Gabriel's word for it.

You go with Carmilla and Gabriel to a hall where Carmilla explains the history of the King's Official Hunters and how they've been protecting the human people of Vethys for centuries from Vampires and Demons. You see the paintings and statues of famous Official Hunters of the past and notice a portrait of a somewhat familiar face. Matthew Galloway. You read his portrait's description and notice that he was one of the King's Official Hunters almost 9000 years ago. You wonder how Matthew is still alive if he was alive 9000 years ago. You continue onwards with Gabriel and Carmilla who at the end of the tour ask if you'll join. You decline and say you'll just go to the request board. But Gabriel reminds you that would make you a Bounty Hunter which is against the law. You say you'll take your chances. Carmilla calls some guards to have you arrested. But you run out in a hurry and fight off guards along the way.

You storm out of the office and hide away in an ally. You hear a voice deep in the ally and see a man with wolf ears in rugged clothing who introduces himself as Wilde. He says he heard what happened in the King's Official Hunters' office and says he has a solution for your problem of being a criminal now but you'll need to follow him. You ask how you can trust him. He says you can't but in the current situation you don't have a choice. You agree and follow Wilde.

Wilde takes you to a tunnel that leads to an underground city Wilde calls the Burrow. When you two enter the Burrow, Wilde takes you to a tavern called Contractor's Pub and Bounty Hunter Agency. Wilde explains that this is where you can find your commissions as a Bounty Hunter as well as a place to stay. Just go in and tell the bartender Wilde sent you. Wilde then walks away saying he'll be seeing you soon.

You enter the tavern and see that the bartender is a man with long blue hair. You go up to the bar and say you're a new Bounty Hunter and that Wilde sent you. The bartender acknowledges and introduces himself as Julius Contractor the current owner of the tavern and a retired Bounty Hunter. He gets an employee to cover him at the bar and leads you upstairs.

When you're upstairs Julius leads you to a door. He says that this is a room he's had vacant for a while and that he'll let you have and customize to make it your own. He wants you to see his tavern as your home for as long as you need. You thank Julius for the hospitality and say you'll repay him when you can. Julius says the only payment he'll accept from you is you being happy and comfortable in his tavern. Before Julius finishes talking a girl runs up to the two of you and asks Julius to introduce you to her. Julius sighs. He introduces the girl as Berri another Bounty Hunter living at the tavern. Berri corrects him and says that she's a Bounty Hunter and a practicing mage. You nod and say that you hope to see her on som commissions. Berri agrees and runs off.

Julius says he's gotta head back down to handle the bar and is prepared for you to take your first commission but says you should get some rest first. You nod and watch Julius walk away.

You enter your new room and take a few steps in. You walk over to the bed to get some rest.

The scene then changes to a new location in a castle throne room. Where Matthew and a few others are gathered. Matthew says that his 'magnum opus' has awakened and his ultimate project as begun. A young female voice threatens Matthew that his project better result in his desired outcome or else she'll slit his throat and drink his blood. Matthew giggles and says he'd like to see her try but nonetheless the project will end the way he predicts. He guarantees it.
