Josie and Lizzie are dead, just like Alaric and every friend that Caroline had. She tried to morn the lost of her daughters and her friends but it was too much pain to handle by her own. She tried really badly but the loss of her daughters made her get in her limit, she had lost everyone, she was all alone... the first few months she tried to deal with her daughters death but she couldn't take it anymore, the lost of a daughter it's already too much for a mother to handle, two it's even worst. She didn't turn it off because of the promise she made to her mom and herself after she got her humanity again, so she found another way of not feeling pain anymore, she got in a catatonic state, she got in a world of her own where she was with her mom, her daughters and everyone who was dead to her but had died.

One day, Hope decided to make a visit to Caroline because it was the day that Josie and Lizzie were born. When she got to the Forbes House, she saw Caroline's state and tried to help her get back to the real world but without success so she called her father to ask him for help.

Once they made her get back to the real world, they saw her breaking into tears so they made her go live with them to New Orleans and try to help her deal with the loss of her loved ones.
