Too young for this
A/N: The usual trigger warnings ahead like the last chapter, such as animal death, blood, gore, loss, flashbacks, starvation, public humiliation, awful thoughts, abuse and neglect. WARRIORS dosn't belong to me, only my oc's!
Third person p.o.v.
"Every cat old enough to hunt join me for a clan meeting!" Brokenstar's usual cold voice sliced through the silence of the quiet camp. Icepaw sat up and walked towards the stump brokenstar stood on, eyeing every cat like prey. Deerpaw looked at him as he sat down right next to her, but her gaze wasn't warm, it was full of worry.
It's been a few sunrises since the gathering and in the nursery a young kit had been growing, his name being badgerkit. Already at such a young age his spirit shows great promise of being a great future warrior. That's what terrified deerpaw the most.
She, along with her siblings and many other kits, had been apprenticed way to early. The code says a kit must be apprenticed at six moons, not two moons! Now she was eight moons old and the only surviving sibling. Foxpaw was only three moons old and batpaw was only four moons old.
Grief dosn't get easier, not for deerpaw anyway. It seemed like life just kept ripping everyone from her, her dad, her sisters and her mother's love. Now it took lizardsrtipe, her kin. Sure she wasn't the nicest cat but she didn't deserve death.
When deerpaw meets the rouge who killed lizardsrtipe she might just.. she silently shook out that thought and continued to pay attention to what her clan leader was saying.
"Today we are gaining another apprentice! Badgerkit come here." Brokenstar called, looking towards the ever shrinking nursery. A black and white Tom kit came stepping out, quickly as he could. A huge excited smile was spread across his face, honor in his green eyes.
Deerpaw hid her panic and anxiety for the kit, including the ever growing dread for him. "Please live young one, please" She prayed silently to herself, hoping so dearly starclan could answer it.
"From this moment on, until you get your warrior name, you'll be known as badgerpaw. Your mentor will be flintfang." The forced proud smile made deerpaw's blood boil. Brokenstar dosn't care about the kits in this clan, he just wants pure soldiers, blood and power.
Along with icepaw she joined in on the chanting for the new apprentice, despite the words feeling like mouse bile in her mouth. "May echopaw please step out of the medicen cat den and join the meeting." The cruel leader said, flicking an impatient ear.
Both icepaw and her looked towards the brutally scarred apprentice walk shamefully to the tree stump, head low. "Now echopaw I thought your mentor deerfoot would have trained you better. Getting beaten and disabled by a newer apprentice!" Brokenstar hissed at her, which made echopaw shrink even lower to the ground.
Deerpaw noticed the guilty look icepaw had on his face, knowing he made echopaw like this. When the truth had come by deerpaw, she could hardly believe it.
Her smaller, younger best friend brutally attacked another clanmate, just out of anger! But there was no way icepaw is going to end up as a cruel cat, will he?
Questions have been playing non stop in her mind since then, wondering if she should distance herself from icepaw or try to help him.
Should she help him? Try to guide him on the right path? That's what friends are for right? Friends help each other no matter what, that's what she had been taught.
But a situation like this is nothing like she had prepared herself for. Her thoughts were cut by a sentence she didn't think her leader would utter.
"Echopaw will no longer be your name, your name will now be just echo. Since rouges are nothing but rats, blackfoot will escort you to where deerpaw was attacked by rats. Oh and don't bother coming back." The dark brown tabby Tom ordered, eyes colder then ice.
Protest rang out from her mother and brother. Tears streamed from shadepaw's and blizzardgale's eyes as they watched echo get escorted out of camp forever.
"How could you?!" Blizzardgale screeched, her back fur and hackles rising. Her ears went fully back, teeth bared and claws out. The look on this grieving mother's face was like nothing deerpaw had ever seen before.
She took a quick glance towards icepaw, who seemed utterly terrified for Blizzardgale. She pulled icepaw closer with a paw and held him close, his body shaking faster then a freezing cat.
The two apprentices, along with the rest of the clan watched as brokenstar leaped off his stump and trotted towards the raging she-cat. Without words being spoken blizzardgale seemed to calm her body down at least, then she started to make her way for the entrance.
"Mother! Mother please don't do what I think your gonna do." Shadepaw begged his mother, genuine fear and desperation in his whole mew.
Blizzardgale just shook her head and walked away, not looking back to her own son. "Now shadepaw, are you going to follow your sister and mother or are you going to stay loyal to your true family?" Brokenstar stood right behind the apprentice, some unknown emotion in his amber eyes.
"Shadowclan will always be my true family, not them" Shadepaw spat with a new found hatred. Brokenstar gave a satisfied nod then called off the meeting.
Deerpaw went to see if badgerkit needed comforting, but it seems his mentor flintfang has that covered. Icepaw then wiggled his way out of deerpaw's grip and shook himself.
Before his friend could say anything he booked it for the apprentice den, wanting to hide from everyone. All of this was his fault, if he hadn't attacked echopaw, if he kept his stupid emotions in check none of this would happen.
If he never entered this clan deerpaw, echopaw, shadepaw and Blizzardgale would still be happy.
If tigerpaw had killed him all of this would not have happened.
