The gathering
A/N: The usual trigger warnings ahead like the last chapter, spoilers and my oc's belong to me.
Third person p.o.v.
It's been a whole moon and a bit since icepaw has joined the clan. Most of it has been spent getting almost killed, recovering, seeing a cat get killed, more bullying, etc.
Now it's time for his first ever gathering, deerpaw told him that it's when all the clans gather under a peaceful truce, discuss stuff and go home.
She had gone into great detail the night prior, which had put icepaw to sleep, but from what he remembered that starclan watches over the clans to make sure they are behaving.
Also some apprentices get to go, some don't. The scarred apprentice had been joyful to have been to picked to go, but also really anxious. What will the other cats think of him? Does he still have kittypet stench on him? Will tigerpaw tell them all where he came from?
All these questions buzzed around his head like loud wasps. It got even worse when shadowclan had reached what the cats called four trees. He followed shadepaw and deerpaw to some other clan apprentices.
He hid behind the slightly bigger apprentices of his own clan, despite hating the smell and sight of shadepaw. "Oh hi there shadepaw, where is your sister?" The much bigger apprentice asked shadepaw, who was only just smaller then this stranger.
"Oh she caught some whitecough and runningnose forced her to stay back at camp." Shadepaw lied as he shuffled his right paw around. Icepaw can only imagine how ashamed he must feel now, from having himself and his sister as two promising warriors, now one can no longer achieve that dream.
"We should leave brackenpaw and Mr grumpy to chat, come on icepaw." Deerpaw whispered as the two Tom's chatted, with the occasional glare towards icepaw.
Deerpaw walked like she was living the best life ever, full of confidence and honor. But he knew that wasn't the case, she might forever put on this brave face so she dosn't seem weak by others.
As deerpaw finally stopped to sit down, a dappled brown apprentice walked up to her, although it looked like he rather not do it. "Hey there, my name is cricketpaw, what's yours?" His voice sounded like it had a permanent scratch to it.
"Deerpaw of shadowclan! Oh and this is icepaw, the newest apprentice of shadowclan" Deerpaw moved away with a smile, so the small Tom could be seen easier.
"Well h.. hi there icepaw, wow your small. Have shaodwclan apprentices always been that small? Oh I'm sorry... th.. this is my first ever gathering so sorry." The nervous Tom added on quickly, looking like he just wants to dissapear.
Deerpaw went on to explain things to this so called cricketpaw, as icepaw looked at the other gathered cats. All the Medicen cat sat together not far from this huge boulder, the deputies sat at the very base together.
He smelled rivers, fish, prey, water and other scents he hasn't learned of yet. "May all cats gather around the great rock and listen to us!" Called a low, wise sounding voice.
The clans hushed and looked upwards, seeing four leaders on top of the boulder. Brokenstar sat up there, right next to quite the bright orange tabby Tom. Next to the bright Tom was a silver and grey spotted Tom with yellow eyes, who smelled really fishy like some of the gathered cats.
As the grey Tom spoke he learned his name was hailstar of riverclan, huh so that's why he smelled so fishy. Icepaw looked down towards the deputies and saw the bluish grey she-cat standing there, alongside a very light brown Tom with a broken jaw, a pitch black Tom and blackfoot.
As soon as the black and white leader spoke, deerpaw's eyes lit up, even more so when he mentioned the hunting in windclan. His friend never shared her interest in windclan with nobody but icepaw.
He guesses that if she told anyone else, they might see her as a traitor. Then he saw his leaders expression change from annoyance to jealousy.
Why would brokenstar be jealous of a bunch of cats who only ate rabbits? Wait, the territory that windclan apparently had. Brokenstar is jealous of the huge chunk of land these rabbit chasers have.
"Yes that's great and all, but why don't you share some with us? Shadowclan is growing quicker then any clan ever has. So we need more food, more prey." Brokenstar spoke up before the bright ginger tabby Tom could speak.
There was a defining silence before the old black and white Tom spoke. "Windclan needs food to brokenstar, you can't just-" The old Tom was cut off with a furious hiss from the shadowclan leader. His smushed face seemed to get even smaller as brokenstar clawed at the rock.
"Sounds like windclan truly is greedy! Bunch of rabbit munchers. You will give us a part of your territory or else shadowclan will use force." Brokenstar snarled, his fur rising so He seemed bigger then the rest of the leaders.
"You can't just threaten us like that!" The pitch black deputy stood up, his twisted paw just hanging there. So he must be the windclan deputy, also icepaw can't decide wether he was brave or stupid for standing up against brokenstar.
The windclan leader gave a small nod towards his deputy, turned and cleared his throat. "Threats like that will never work on windclan brokenstar, my clan will keep all of our territory." Spoke the old Tom, standing proud and firm.
"Learn to regret those words tallstar." Brokenstar muttered, flattened his fur and turned his eyes back to the shocked crowd. The bright ginger Tom took this opportunity to awkwardly clear his throat and step forward.
He went on about how things are great in thunderclan, then went on to talk about his deputy. As he spoke, icepaw learned that his oringal saviour was called bluefur, lost all her three kits due to a fox last leaf-bare.
Icepaw can't imagine what pain she is going through, all three kits just gone, nowhere to be found. "Now I will announce our newest warrior, tigerpaw is now tigerclaw!" The thunderclan leader announced with huge pride.
Everyone around him started to chant his new name, tigerclaw sat there with pride and a smirk. Icepaw remained quiet, rolled his eyes and then everyone went silent.
He seemed to faze out, not knowing everyone was now leaving. It took a hard nudge from deerpaw to get him on his small paws. "Well that went swell" Deerpaw hissed sarcastically while she trotted alongside him.
"Poor bluefur, she must be in alot of pain" Icepaw looked back towards the leaving clans, spotted bluefur and wished he could talk to her again.
"She must be, I don't even want to imagine how that feels." Deerpaw shivered, blinked a few times as if her mind just made her think that scenario.
After what felt like ages the shadowclan cats returned home, all going to their own nests to sleep in. Before walking into the apprentice den, his ice blue eyes went straight towards the med den.
He would love being a warrior apprentice more if brokenstar wasn't his mentor. Something about helping others, making sure they will be okay seems really awesome to icepaw. He had been so entranced in his own world icepaw didn't notice brokenstar right behind him.
"And why are you giving that den such a long stare?" Brokenstar's stone cold voice sliced through icepaw's thoughts like claws through fur. The young Tom spun around quicker then a rushing river, trying to come up with a perfect lie.
"No apprentice of mine will become a filthy medicen cat!" Brokenstar spat, as if reading icepaw's mind. The bright amber/orange eyes of brokenstar then seemed to gleam with pure evil.
"I've got an idea that might make you like being a warrior better" Before that sentence icepaw thought he wouldn't ever hear something so cold.
But brokenstar proved him wrong, yet again. Tigerclaw and brokenstar are cats that proved to icepaw that the world can be super messed up. Not to mention ruby and socks.
What does this monster, no demon of a cat have planned now?
