Tried to write a little differently today. Do tell me how it was.

Top - Rinku Singh
Bottom - Sarfaraz Khan

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sarfaraz Khan and Rinku Singh had always been the best of friends.
In the chaotic world of cricket, where egos clashed and pressures ran high, they found a quiet, unspoken understanding between them.
Both came from humble backgrounds. Neither of them fluent in English like the rest of the team but together they didn't need words to communicate.
Sarfaraz was quiet and sensitive with his self-doubts. Rinku had his brash confidence and big heart.
They were two sides of the same coin who constantly found comfort in each other and they always seemed to know exactly what the other needed.
They had so many similarities that it made sense they gravitated toward each other.
Sarfaraz's POV
It wasn't sudden — it was slow, like the gentle buildup of a storm. But Sarfaraz had started feeling like his friendship with Rinku was turning into something more.
Sarfaraz could feel it in the way his heart raced when Rinku laughed at something ridiculous he'd said.
Or the way he noticed every little thing about Rinku, from the way his eyes sparkled when he was excited to the quiet moments when he would just sit next to him.
Rinku had this way of pulling him out of his shell, of making him laugh even when he didn't feel like it.
The more time they spent together, the more Sarfaraz started to feel like his world had started to revolve around Rinku.
It wasn't just the way Rinku made him feel safe, or how he could always make Sarfaraz's heart skip a beat with a single smile.
It was something deeper, something his heart couldn't ignore.
The problem?
He had no idea if Rinku felt the same way.
It wasn't until a warm evening, after a particularly intense training session, that things began to change.
The team had wrapped up practice, Sarfaraz found himself on the rooftop of the hotel thinking about his performance during the practice match.
He sat at the edge of the railing, his legs dangling over the side, trying to focus on the match ahead.
But it was hard to concentrate when his mind kept drifting back to the one person who had slowly become his entire world:
Rinku.
Rinku found him there and smiled that mischievous smile Sarfaraz knew so well.
"You're overthinking again, aren't you?" Rinku asked, plopping down beside him.
Sarfaraz shrugged. "I don't know, Rinku. I feel like I'm not good enough. Maybe it's just... I can never do enough."
Rinku raised an eyebrow and gave him a playful nudge. "Shut up. You're fine, Sarf. Don't let the world mess with your head. You're better than half the guys here."
Sarfaraz sighed, glancing at his friend. "I just wish I believed that myself."
Rinku turned to him, his expression softer than usual. "Listen to me, okay? I get it. We're not as flashy as some of the others, but that doesn't mean we're not worth it. You're more than good. You have the heart and the skill to do anything. And I..."
He trailed off, his voice suddenly quieter, more vulnerable.
For a moment, Sarfaraz could see something in his eyes — something that wasn't just friendship. He felt his chest tighten, his breath hitching.
Rinku cleared his throat, visibly trying to shake off whatever that was, and threw his arm around Sarfaraz's shoulders. "Anyway, stop being so serious."
Sarfaraz didn't meet his gaze immediately, his mind racing.
The sincerity in Rinku's voice made his chest tighten. It was more than just the usual encouragement.
There was something in Rinku's gaze that made Sarfaraz think — maybe, just maybe — there was something more between them. Something neither of them had ever acknowledged aloud.
He felt it again — that pull toward Rinku. The way his heart beat faster just by being close to him. The way Rinku's presence made everything feel a little easier.
A few weeks passed, and the more time Sarfaraz spent with Rinku, the more his feelings deepened.
It wasn't just the way Rinku made him laugh, or how he could always cheer him up after a bad day. It was how Rinku understood him — really understood him.
And the way Sarfaraz couldn't help but feel his heart race every time Rinku smiled at him, or when he caught him staring, only for Rinku to quickly look away with a sheepish grin.
It was on the eve of a big match when things truly changed.
The team had gathered at their hotel's lounge. Sarfaraz was sitting at a corner table watching the others chat animatedly.
He couldn't stop thinking about the upcoming match taking the pressure of being one of the less experienced players on the team.
Rinku, always the life of the party, suddenly dropped down beside him. He leaned in close, as if to make sure no one else could hear.
"Hey, you okay?" Rinku asked, his voice soft and concerned.
Sarfaraz smiled weakly. "Just nervous about tomorrow. I don't know if I'm ready."
Rinku raised an eyebrow and, to Sarfaraz's surprise, placed a hand on his shoulder. "You've always been ready. Don't let that nervousness mess with your head. You've got this. Besides..."
He leaned in even closer, his breath warm against Sarfaraz's ear. "You're not in this alone. I've got your back."
In that moment, Sarfaraz could feel his heart hammering in his chest.
The proximity, the words — everything felt different. The way Rinku had always been there for him felt like something more now. Something that went beyond friendship.
He turned his head slightly, meeting Rinku's eyes. There was a flicker of something there, something that made Sarfaraz's heart race even faster.
Could it be... could it really be that Rinku felt the same way?
There it was again — the way Rinku made him feel seen, truly seen.
Sarfaraz's heart fluttered, but this time, it was something more than just gratitude for a supportive friend.
He realized, with clarity, that he needed Rinku as more than a friend. He wanted Rinku in a way that made his chest ache.
Rinku's pov
Rinku Singh was never one to overthink things. He was the loud one, the life of the party, the guy who could always make a joke out of any situation.
But there was one person that had always gotten under his skin in a way he couldn't quite explain.
Sarfaraz Khan.
Rinku had never expected to develop feelings for his best friend. After all, they had always been inseparable.
They didn't need to speak much to communicate; a glance, a shared smile, a brief touch — it was enough. That's how it had always been, and Rinku never thought twice about it.
But then, something shifted.
It started a few months ago, after a particularly grueling practice session.
They'd been working on fielding drills when Sarfaraz had made a rare mistake. He fumbled a simple catch, his eyes clouded with frustration. Rinku had seen that look on his face before — the look that said that he was already beating himself up over a single mistake.
Rinku had always hated seeing Sarfaraz like that.
He hated how Sarfaraz would let his doubts eat him up, how he would let a small mistake define his whole game.
But that day, something was different.
As they stood there, Rinku caught a glimpse of Sarfaraz's eyes — soft, uncertain, almost vulnerable.
And for the first time, Rinku realized how much he cared about him. It wasn't just the usual protective instinct he had for his friend.
It was something more.
A tug at his heart, a sense of wanting to make everything better for him.
That was the moment Rinku first realized he was falling for Sarfaraz.
He tried to ignore it at first.
After all, he couldn't be in love with his best friend.
He loved their friendship, the ease with which they connected. The last thing he wanted to do was complicate it with feelings that might never be returned.
But over the following weeks, it only got harder to ignore.
It was in the small things.
The way Sarfaraz would laugh at Rinku's jokes, even the bad ones. The way Sarfaraz would without fail, check in on him when Rinku was quiet and made sure he was okay.
It was the way their silences felt comfortable, like they didn't need words to know exactly what the other person was thinking.
There were moments, too, when Rinku found himself just watching Sarfaraz in a way that made his heart skip.
He noticed how Sarfaraz's eyes would light up when he spoke about his dreams, how he would get so absorbed in the game that he forgot everything around him.
Rinku felt a rush of admiration for him that went beyond friendship.
He knew he loved Sarfaraz not just as a friend but as something deeper.
He couldn't ignore it anymore. It was there, every time Sarfaraz smiled, every time they shared a quiet moment, every time their hands brushed in passing.
But the fear followed close behind. What if Sarfaraz didn't feel the same way? What if confessing ruined their friendship?
So, Rinku did what he always did: he bottled it up. He made jokes, he teased, he acted like everything was normal.
But inside, he was falling harder and harder for Sarfaraz, and it was tearing him apart.
End of POVs
As they sat together on the terrace in solace once again. Sarfaraz looked at Rinku, his eyes filled with a sense of longing.
Unable to hold back anymore, Sarfaraz decided it was time to act.
"Rinku." He called out
Rinku looked at him
"I... I don't just want your friendship. I don't think I ever did. I— I think I've started to feel more than that. More than what we've had."
Rinku blinked in surprise, his expression unreadable for a moment. The silence between them felt endless, the entire world falling away until it was just the two of them.
Then, to Sarfaraz's shock, Rinku broke into the biggest grin Sarfaraz had ever seen.
"You finally said it!" Rinku exclaimed ,"You've been giving me these puppy eyes for weeks!"
Sarfaraz's face went red. "What? No! I— I wasn't—"
But Rinku wasn't listening. He leaned in, and before Sarfaraz could protest, he planted a quick, playful kiss on his cheek.
"I've been falling for you, Sarf. I didn't know what to do with it. But... I'm glad you said it."
Sarfaraz blinked, his eyes wide with surprise. "You— you really mean that?"
"Yeah," Rinku said, voice thick with emotion. "I think I've been in love with you for a while now. It's not just about cricket or friendship anymore. It's about you, Sarf."
Rinku pulled Sarfaraz into a hug, and Sarfaraz, his arms trembling slightly at first, held him back, just as tightly. For the first time in months, everything felt simple.
It was as though the world suddenly made sense.
For a long moment, neither of them spoke. Rinku was grinning like a fool, and Sarfaraz was simply lost in the warmth of it all. He didn't need to say anything else.
The confession was loud and clear — and it was perfect in its own, chaotic, beautiful way.
Sarfaraz and Rinku sat side by side, the weight of the world suddenly feeling a lot lighter. Together, they were ready for whatever came next, on and off the field.
Because sometimes, the best friendships turned into the best kinds of love.
