It was a sunny afternoon at the National Cricket Academy, the usual hustle and bustle of the Indian cricket team filling the practice ground. Players were scattered around, some batting, others bowling, and a few running laps.

Saurav Ganguly was in his usual position by the boundary line, observing the practice session with a sense of calm authority. His gaze flickered from player to player but his focus wasn't entirely on the game.

His eyes kept drifting back to one person.

Rahul Dravid.

Rahul was batting with his usual calm precision, every movement graceful and controlled. But Saurav knew that underneath that serene exterior, Rahul had a tendency to be... a little clumsy.

It was something that had always made Saurav feel protective, even if he never admitted it aloud.

Just as Sourav had predicted a short ball from the bowler came at Rahul unexpectedly and he misjudged it. His feet tangled and before he could react, he tumbled to the ground with a loud thud.

Saurav's heart skipped a beat. Without thinking, he shot forward, legs moving instinctively; practically flying across the field to reach Rahul.

"Jammy!" he called, his voice sharp with concern as he knelt beside him. "Are you alright?"

Rahul, always too proud to admit when he was hurt, waved him off with a grin. "I'm fine, Dada. Just a little tumble. Happens all the time."

Saurav didn't seem to be listening. His eyes were fixed on Rahul's knee, which looked like it had taken a bad hit.

Before he could stop himself, Sourav snapped, "You're always so reckless, Jam! You can't just rush through everything like that. You're going to hurt yourself one day."

Rahul looked up at Saurav, a little taken aback by his captain's outburst. "I can take care of myself, Saurav," Rahul retorted, trying to stand up and brush it off.

"You clearly can't!" Saurav shot back, his voice tinged with irritation and the protective instincts he couldn't seem to shake around Rahul.

Rahul's patience, already thin from the fall, snapped. "Saurav, I'm fine!" He stood up quickly, wincing slightly but not wanting to give Saurav the satisfaction of seeing him in pain.

Saurav's frustration was bubbling , "You're always hurting yourself because you're too careless! One of these days, I'm going to wrap you in bubble wrap just to keep you from doing something stupid."

Rahul's eyes flashed with irritation. "I don't need you to wrap me in anything," he retorted, his face hardening with anger.

Saurav, feeling both guilty and protective, ran a hand through his hair. "I'm just worried about you, okay?" His voice softened, more earnest than usual. "I don't want to see you get hurt."

"You don't have to treat me like a kid." Rahul shot back.

Saurav ignored the comment and pulled out his water bottle to pour some water over Rahul's ankle. "Well, it seems like I do need to treat you like one, considering you can't seem to walk straight half the time."

The rest of the team, who had been watching from the sidelines, exchanged amused glances. Sachin raised an eyebrow. "Are they—" he started

"Yes. They're definitely fighting like an old married couple." VVS Laxman interrupted with a grin.

Sehwag couldn't help but chuckle. "Look at Dada. He's a man of action but when it comes to Dravid, he turns into a mother hen."

Sachin, smiling softly, watched the two of them with quiet amusement. "You know, if they weren't cricketers, they'd probably be one of those couples who argue over everything in public but can't live without each other."

Rahul groaned, as he felt water trickling down his ankle "Dada, I swear, if you don't stop treating me like this, I'll... I'll just leave practice and go home!"

"You're impossible," Saurav muttered under his breath, still concerned but now undeniably flustered by Rahul's fiery response.

Rahul turned and began walking away, clearly annoyed. "You do this every time," he said over his shoulder. "You're always on my case and I'm sick of it."

Saurav stood there, watching Rahul walk off, his chest tight with a mix of guilt and frustration. He knew he was being overbearing but it was hard to stop when all he wanted to do was protect Rahul, the person he cared about the most.

The last thing he wanted to do was to push him away.

For the rest of the day, they'd barely spoken. Rahul had given him short answers, even when Saurav had tried to make amends with small gestures—tea, a hand on the shoulder, a sheepish smile.

But it wasn't working.

Saurav was desperate now. He needed to make things right. And fast.

He found Rahul sitting on a bench near the edge of the field during a break, looking down at some notes.

Taking a deep breath, he approached. He was moving slower than usual because he was unsure how to make amends.

"Hey," Saurav began quietly, sitting next to him on the bench.

Rahul didn't look up, but his body stiffened ever so slightly. "What is it, Dada?"

"I... I wanted to apologize for yesterday," Saurav said, his voice sincere. "I shouldn't have scolded you like that. I was just worried but I know it came off wrong. I'm sorry."

Rahul glanced up at him briefly, raising an eyebrow. "You're sorry? Really?"

Saurav nodded. "Yeah. I overreacted, and I didn't mean to make you feel like you can't take care of yourself. I was just..." His voice shy for a moment. "I care about you, Jam."

Rahul looked at him now, his gaze a little warmer but still guarded. "I know you do," he said quietly. "But you can't just treat me like I'm some delicate flower."

Saurav smiled mischievously, leaning in just a little. "But you are delicate, Jammy. You've got that soft side that no one sees. Makes me want to look after you even more."

Rahul's cheeks flushed pink but he quickly looked away, his heart fluttering uncomfortably. "Saurav, stop it," he muttered, though there was a softness in his voice now.

"Fine." Saurav whispered, clearly enjoying the effect he was having on Rahul. "But I know what I'm doing to you, Jam. You can't even look me in the eye anymore."

Rahul swallowed hard as he tried to stand up. He was desperate to put some space between them but Saurav was quicker.

He reached out and lightly grabbed Rahul's arm, pulling him gently back down. "Let me make it up to you," Saurav said, his voice dripping with playful mischief.

"What are you going to do now?" Rahul asked trying to act unbothered. His breath hitched when he realized just how close Saurav was with their faces inches apart.

Saurav smirked, leaning in just enough so that his lips brushed against Rahul's ear. "What if I kissed you right now?" he asked, his voice seductive and low, full of that familiar teasing tone that made Rahul's heart race in a way he couldn't explain.

Rahul froze, his face heart pounding in his chest. "Wait —what?" he stammered, his voice faltering. He tried to stand but his legs felt like jelly; betraying him.

"I think it would be a good way to apologize," Saurav said, his lips curling into a confident smile. "A kiss to make up for all my lecturing."

Rahul's face was now fully red, and he couldn't even look at Saurav anymore. "You... you're crazy," he muttered, but the words felt like they were leaving his mouth against his will.

Saurav tilted his head, his eyes narrowing with a playful glint. "Maybe," he said, his hand gently cupping Rahul's chin, guiding his face back to meet his gaze.

For a moment, they locked eyes, and time seemed to stand still.

Rahul's breath shallow. Saurav was so close now and Rahul's willpower was slipping.

Before Rahul could react, Saurav closed the distance between them. He pressed his lips to Rahul's jaw in a soft yet teasing kiss.

The touch was gentle and it sent a shock of warmth through Rahul's entire body. Saurav lingered there for a heartbeat, just long enough for Rahul to feel the lingering softness of his lips.

Rahul was stunned into silence, his mind spinning. He hadn't expected that.

Saurav pulled back, a smirk dancing on his lips. "I hope that made you feel a little better," he said, his voice light but full of playful affection.

His fingers then brushed against Rahul's cheek, lightly tracing his jaw. "You're so adorable when you get flustered, Rahul. It's hard not to steal kisses from you."

Rahul, now fully crimson, turned his face away quickly. "I'm going to kill you, Dada," he muttered under his breath.

But there was a small, involuntary smile playing at the corner of his mouth.

"Oh, I'm sure you will," Saurav said with a laugh, his voice low and teasing. "But not before I do this..."

Before Rahul could protest, Saurav leaned in with his lips meeting Rahul's in a teasing and urgent kiss.

It was brief but it sent a jolt through Rahul's body, leaving him breathless.

Rahul pulled back, his face the color of a ripe tomato, his hands trembling slightly. "I... I can't believe you just did that," he whispered, his heart thudding loudly in his chest.

Saurav chuckled, "Told you I'm persistent," he said softly, his voice dripping with affection. "And you're not getting away that easily. I'll make you forgive me, Jammy."

Rahul blinked as he swallowed hard, trying to steady himself.

"You're going to be the death of me, Dada," Rahul said with a sigh and a small smile.

Saurav leaned in again, not for a kiss, but for a gentle whisper in Rahul's ear: "I know. But you like me anyway."

Rahul's shy, silent nod was all the confirmation Saurav needed.
