Part 9
Skai Pov:
Another day came and the competition was near, April Martin and her little sister is hosting it. News got around quick that me and Yuna are competing and somehow a lot of people wants to see the work of the new coach Choi Kim. Crazy people.
Though it was a new day, it was another early practice and apparently our so called 'Coach' is not here yet. Probably been out drinking at the new spot she found near the residence. I blame my sister for that...
"Hey Yuta..." I heard Yuna said already pissing me off early this morning.
"Hey...It's Skai! Why can't you and Choi remember that." I grumbled and got up from the bench. I grabbed my water bottle and put my attention on her. "What do you want Kang..."
She took a deep breath like she been planning to ask me something which made me more curious to know. "Can you please teach me how to land a Quad Axel..." She asked.
'Did my ears defy me or did I just hear what I thought I didn't just hear her ask of me?' I thought as my face slowly became the definition of shock and concern. Even amusement for her asking something like that.
"Wait, you want me to teach you what now?" I asked.
She sighed and looked down before saying it again. "A Quad Axel...can you teach me? Or at least the quad Salchow." She asked but added that other jump too.
I only thought for a moment and raised a brow only to sigh and signal her to flow me to the rink. As I didn't promise her, I taught her something simple. The most difficult jump in ice skating history is the Quad Axel and I can see why she asked me. I was one to actually land it a few years ago for the Junior Championships and scored pretty high.
I was the one of the youngest skaters to succeed in landing it on first try at a competition. Sadly getting that landing and actually completing a spin squence along with that jump sequence with a quad took a lot of practice. I was not perfect at it and I can see she needs a lot of work for it.
If she can't fully land a quad Salchow she definitely won't land a quad Axel. I watch her attempt it and failed. I only sighed and went to help her up.
"You really suck Kang. Watch me do it one more time okay." I said giving her the look before going back to show her again the quad salchow, step by step, again.
Right before I got to see her try it out, the doors open to the rink and Choi Kim appeared with the obvious hang over look but a smile was still there. She's weird.
"Ello! What were you two practicing just now?" She questioned us like we committed something without her watching.
We both looked to each other and agreed to not say anything and proceed with doing our programs. We checked on our programs one at a time starting with me.
My theme, Innocent and Pure love, Unconditional/Agape Love. Sadness...I discovered this feeling not long ago. To me, that means...my father. The man who left the family behind with a smile and a huge love for ice skating. He was the one who helped me discover that love for ice skating and I miss him dearly...
"Looks like Skai found her pure love. Indeed she is ready for the next stage." I heard Kim says as I was due to finishing the choreo. Though my body too busy in the flow of the feeling of agape, imagine the flow with the music as well.
When I was finished with my routine Yuna went ahead and did hers too. She seemed like she did discover what she was looking for but still struggling on her side. I hoped she finds her Eros real soon before the competition.
Other than that, after practice we went eat at a local Korean BBQ spot and we also encountered my annoying aunt too. We got to our spots and ordered but she see to have noticed us and threw her curiosity at us. She also have been watching us practice too. And my practices at her studio became more frequent too.
"Have the two of you thought of any costumes you're going to be wearing?" She asked.
That idea didn't cross my mind lately but now that she mentioned it, I don't really have much to look upon considering that I don't go for the same costume every season. I'm also sure that Yuna didn't bring any with her too. This competition was sudden anyway.
"Oh I have some sent here already. I send all the costumes I've worn for every competition I've been in from South Korea!" Choi Kim says in all excitement and enthusiasm.
I don't know how she can be so excited and smiley all the time but it's whatever, maybe I can find something that will match the program's theme. No doubt she won't be helping, it's more of a 'you take the wheel and see where that gets you' type of situation.
The competition is tomorrow after all and we need to be mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared. We would also need to be fashionably prepared as well. No doubt a lot of people are coming to watch even the news too.
Regardless of the crowd, I will win the competition and Choi Kim will stay by my side as my coach. I did realize one thing while training under her.
I do need her...
