Part 13
The sun dipped low on the horizon as Yuna Kang stood outside the skating rink, her breath visible in the crisp air. Seoul was always bustling, but the weight of her recent competition hung on her shoulders. Second place.
'That damn Skai Babivecha...' She thought to herself.
It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good enough either. Not for her, and especially not for what she had come back to South Korea to accomplish. Her old mentor and the brightest star of South Korean figure skating, Choi Kim, had to be convinced to return.
And Yuna knew that only her very best - better than she'd ever been- could have convinced her to come back home. Actually nothing would of have, she seen the way Kim looked at Skai. It was different.
She pushed open the rink's door, the familiar chill of the air inside greeting her. Her coach, Bang Ji-hoon, was waiting near the edge of the ice, arms folded and expression unreadable as always.
"Look who's back and late," he said, his tone more neutral than accusatory. "But that's not important right? We have something to discuss."
Kang Yuna nodded, trying to steady her nerves. "Is it about the new program Kim taught me? I've been doing some thinking, I need to push beyond just clean lines. Something deeper."
Ji-hoon smiled faintly. "Mm exactly. That's why I've arranged a meeting for you. Someone special is here to help you. She's not a skating coach, but she'll get you to where you need to be."
Before Yuna could ask who, the doors at the back of the rink opened, and in walked a figure she recognized instantly. Momo Hirai from the famous girl group Twice, the renowned dancer. Yuna blinked in disbelief, her heart racing.
Everyone knew Momo as the "Dancing Machine" of K-pop, a powerhouse in fluidity and sensuality on stage. But what was she doing here, at a skating rink?
"Yuna," Ji-hoon said, turning toward her. "Meet Momo. I had to pull a few strings to make this happen, but she's agreed to help guide you in your choreography. She'll bring the intensity and emotion you need for your Eros program."
Yuna swallowed hard and bowed politely. "Momo-ssi, it's an honor to meet you."
Momo's warm smile eased some of Yuna's nerves. "No need to be formal. I'm here to help you bring out your emotions in your performance. Skating and dancing have a lot in common, even if they're different on the surface."
Ji-hoon nodded toward the studio adjacent to the rink. "You'll start in the dance studio before we translate the movement to the ice. Momo's style, especially with Eros, will push you beyond just skating technically well. This will make you unforgettable."
Yuna glanced between Ji-hoon and Momo. She knew her current skating lacked something still - raw emotion of Eros. Her technical skills had carried her this far, but she needed more. She needed fire. She needed Eros, something raw and passionate.
The studio was warm, unlike the ice-cold rink, and mirrored walls reflected her anxious form back at her. Momo stood at the center of the room, her expression serious now as she tied her hair into a tight ponytail.
"You've probably seen my performances," Momo said, breaking the silence. "Sexy dancing is not about being provocative for the sake of it. It's about owning your body, your movements, and making people feel something.
When I dance, I connect deeply with the music and let the audience feel that connection. That's what you need for your program. Your audience needs to feel the fire within you."
Yuna nodded. "I'm ready. I think."
Momo's eye twinkled slightly. "We'll see." She walked over to the sound system and pressed play. A sensual beat filled the room, slow and pulsing, the kind of music that would set the tone for a captivating short program.
"Start by feeling the rhythm," Momo instructed, stepping close to Yuna. "Don't think. Let your body respond naturally."
Yuna closed her eyes, feeling the music flow through her. She could skate, glide across ice effortlessly, but this...this was different. She moved tentatively at first, unsure of how to let go of the precision she was used to on the rink.
Momo watched carefully, stepping beside her to mirror her movements. "Don't hesitate. Confidence is everything here. No one can feel the energy if you're holding back. Own every step."
Yuna took a breath, pushing herself to loosen her limbs, to move with the same elegance she'd use on the ice but with a different intensity. Momo's movements were sharp yet fluid, powerful but graceful.
Yuna tried to match her, feeling a heat build within her chest as she moved to the beat. It wasn't about perfection; it was about seduction. Owning her space, her body, her movements. Her Eros...
Momo paused the music. "Better," she said. "But you're still too tense. Skating is precision, yes, but this -- Eros -- is passion. You need to stop thinking so much."
Yuna frowned. "I'm trying, but it's hard to let go. On the ice, I'm in control. I don't know how to let that go."
Momo's smile returned, this time with a knowing look. "Control is important, but so is surrender. To make people feel something, you have to be willing to show them everything. The vulnerability, the strength-- it's all connected."
Vulnerability...she seen this before many times, she even seen it recently and it was something new she seen from Skai. Her vulnerable side, her angel, but then is she vulnerable when she did those devilish moves on ice too then?
Yuna took those words to heart. Vulnerability wasn't something she was used to showing. But if that's what it took to show Choi Kim and Skai Babivecha her improvement, she was ready to give it everything.
The session continued, with Momo guiding her through each step, each fluid motion. As the night wore on, Yuna found herself moving more freely, letting the music take over. By the time they finished, sweat dripped down her brow, but she felt something new stirring inside her.
"Tomorrow, we'll take what we worked on to the ice," Momo said, grabbing her water bottle. "You're not there yet, but you're close. The fire is in you. Now you just need to let it burn."
As Yuna wiped her face with a towel, she met Momo's eyes in the mirror. She felt a strange mix of exhaustion and excitement. Her second-place finish was behind her now. This was a new beginning.
A change to become more than she ever imagined.
Tomorrow, the ice would feel different. She would be different. And when the time came to skate her short program, Eros wouldn't just be a routine. It would be her story, her fire - unleashed.
'Just you two wait, I will catch up real soon...'
