SIXTY TWO: Sunburst

It was safe to say that I had been surprised when Dabi gave me permission to go out.

No more mundane tasks, no more washing crusty skidmarks from villain underwear, and no more slowly slipping into insanity. Still, the privilege came with a condition. I had to wear a tracking device, so he could keep tabs on me. It weighed heavy around my ankle, but hey, it was fine by me, especially once Hawks confirmed it had no audio transmitters implanted within.

"You should really wear something over your mouth, my dude." I sighed, watching Hawks spit out his second fly of the morning as we flew along. Brushing his tongue off, he made a noise of agreement, flicking the residue of his tainted saliva off into the wind.
"I don't get it! Why don't you ever swallow anything?!" He complained, moving up closer beside me, mindful of my scorching wings.

"Simple. I don't open my mouth as wide as you, dummy." Of course, I myself had ingested many insects throughout the course of my airborne career, but I wasn't about to remind him of that. It was nice, being out in the sunlight, away from the Liberation Front. There were people there I actually liked, such as Twice, but as long as Dabi existed, my goal would be to take them down.

"So...about last night..." Hawks had been pretty good about everything. He hasn't asked for details, nor had he tried to stop me, but I knew it was only a matter of time. "I know I said I didn't wanna hear about it...but-"
"His junk doesn't work." I cut him off quickly, glancing to catch a look at his reaction. It was much more amusing than I had anticipated.

"His...Wait, what?" Hawks fell behind for a moment, but I didn't wait on him. Continuing on my way towards Endeavor's agency, I smirked, glad to finally be able to give him some good news.
"No matter how badly he wants it, the filthy bastard can't stand to attention. Your favourite little hidey hole is safe."

I squeaked out as he burst past me, gaining incredible speed and height, pumping his fists above his head as he did a few impressive loop-the-loops.
"Yeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaw!" He whooped, swooping down to circle me. "Nobody gets to spelunk that cave, unless that somebody is me!"

I married a moron...and a...

Despite what I had learned about my husband in the recent days, I enjoyed seeing Hawks back to being an excitable flurry of feathers for the rest of our trip. Still, things were heavy, and I had to bite my tongue so I wouldn't mention what I now knew.
"Okay, you need to get serious. I have some information I haven't told you yet. I wasn't sure if it would be safe to discuss back at the mansion."

Hawks switched back to his hero mode instantly, giving me a firm nod as we landed and entered the agency. Numerous sidekicks pointed us in the right direction until we finally located Endeavor, along with his trio of interns, in the break room.
"I was starting to think you had dropped off the face of the earth..." The beefy man greeted us, standing from his seat.

"If I'm honest, I kind of did for a while there..." I admitted, giving a small wave to the first years as they voiced their greetings. "Listen, I really need to talk to you. Can I steal you away for a few?" Curious, yet maintaining his stoic appearance, Endeavor glanced to the boys, clearing his throat.
"You three, stay here while I have a word with Songbird and Hawks. Bakugou, stay away from the coffee machine. I'm tired of replacing it."

Sweatdropping at the slew of cusses the blond spewed forth, I slunk away with the pair and up to the number one's office, making sure they were both sat down before I began.
"Okay, so, we know Shigaraki is going to be returning in about a month, which doesn't give us much time. What I did find out, however, is that he's in a hospital."

"Hospital..." Endeavor repeated the word slowly, resting his chin in the palm of his hand. "How accurate is this information?" Pacing across the length of the office, I stopped to peer up at the ceiling, hands linked behind my back.
"Hawks and I have both formed bonds within the association. I don't doubt the legitimacy."

I nearly boned one of the assholes.

"I don't have a specific hospital location, but it's a start." I continued, rocking back and forth on my heels.
"It can't be too far off, so that narrows it down." Hawks mumbled, tapping his fingers against his knees. "I'd assume Shigs would wanna link back up with the Front and kick things off immediately." He definitely had a point, so that narrowed things down.

Endeavor hummed along, but his brow was creased, his gaze of blue directed towards me.
"I'm impressed, but I also don't like the thought of you being so deeply involved. You're just a rookie." Ouch. That was a bit of a low blow, though it wasn't all that surprising, seeing it was coming from the pyro prick himself.

"This rookie has experience in using and abusing, from both sides, so don't waste your concerns on me, Enji." I replied curtly, trying to stop myself glancing over to my husband. It was hard, being so in love, yet knowing he had done something so vile. We hadn't spoken about it, and even though I knew it couldn't be kept in the dark forever, saying it out loud would make it the truest of realities.

"Don't fret, number one! She'll be well out of harm's way before shit hits the fan! That's my guarantee!" It took a few moments for me to process that, but once I had, another turd flew straight into the rotor blades.
"I plan on being right in the middle of it, buzzard breath!" The force of which I clenched my jaw had caused an immediate ache, and I could feel the heat quirk fizzling upon the surface of my shoulder blades. That was new.

"Tch, like hell you are! When you took me back, I promised to keep you safe! I'm sticking to that, Sunshine!" Hawks leaned forward in his seat, whilst Endeavor did the opposite, lips pursed and ready to step in if necessary.
"I don't give a shit about your promises! They're all null and void if the Commission is involved anyway, so fuck 'em! All I care about is you not lying to me!"

Way to make a scene, (Y/N). Very classy.

Hawks stood up and took a few steps forward, wings making him look much larger than he really was.
"Not happening! End of story! This is not the time to start anything!" He was serious, but so was I. That burning sensation was getting stronger, and a crackling sound made my ears ring.

"You started this! He started it, right?!" I turned to Endeavor, but didn't wait for a response. "In no way, shape or form do you have any right to talk! Whether you love me or not! Married or not! I make my own decisions! We each have our own pair of pants in this relationship! Even if one of them is stolen, bloodsoaked denim..!"

Before it happened, I saw the shock on Hawks' face. It was obvious that there was no doubt in his mind that I knew, but that was short lived. Everything turned white. I couldn't see, and the world was blanketed with overwhelming heat. It didn't take long for me to realise where it had come from.

The fuck..?! My quirk..?!

It was gone after about five seconds or so, and I had to furiously blink my eyes to make my vision return. The walls were scorched, and small, flickering spot fires were dancing upon the floor and desk. Endeavor and Hawks peeked up from behind it, eyes wide and mouths agape.

"I..." Speechless, that's what I was. "Did I do that..? Shit..." Emerging from behind the singed desk, the pair began to put out the small flames, and I noticed Hawks was definitely missing a few feathers.
"You exploded. Literally..." He mumbled, still in shock as he stomped down onto the carpet with his boot.

"S..sorry...That's never happened before...I was just...angry, and I-"
"Shut it." Endeavor cut me off, waving a hand in my direction. "Do you really think I haven't burnt this place out on the odd occasion?" He had a point, but still, I was confused. My quirk had just consumed me, and then caused all of that? Even the tracker around my ankle was red hot.

I approached the desk, swallowing as I leaned in to inspect the Newton's Cradle, which was only just starting to go back to its original colour. The metal was almost glowing red.
"So, I'm a bomb now. Great..." I muttered, reaching around to try and rub at my shoulder blades. They were sore, and likely pretty pink.

"That was like a literal sunburst...Like they show on those solar system documentaries..." Hawks turned to look at me, but his expression was still identical to what it had been before my little kaboom. He had a lot of excuses weighing on the tip of his tongue, but it wasn't the time. Not around anybody else.

"This is good. Use it. Train it. It's about time you did more than flap around and scream like a cockatoo." Endeavor announced, picking up a sheet of paper, only for it to crumble to ashes, back onto the table. "However, right now, we need to organise a team to investigate all hospitals in that region. There isn't much time to prepare."

I should tell him about Dabi's obsession with him...but not now. Not after I destroyed his office...

I began to help them tidy up as we spoke about what needed to be done, all the while keeping my distance from my husband. It seemed that every time we came close to getting back to normal, something else would drive a wedge between us. If it was a sign, well, that was something to deal with at a later date. A knock sounded at the door, and we all turned to face the green-topped first year, who paled once he entered.

"WH..WHAT ON EARTH HAPPENED IN HERE?!"

"Midoriya, my boy, let me tell you about the wrath of a woman..."

***New quirk addition? Bet.

Sorry for the lack of BNHA updates. Banana Fish swallowed me whole and I'm trapped in its fictional colon.
