Love Is Real

Anthony left a bit ago to go get us some lunch. I'm okay without Anthony, honest, it's just that sometimes, I get a bit anxious.

Like now.

Anthony left like, half an hour ago, shouldn't he be back by now? He was kind of rude to me when he left. I thought he was just joking! What if he left me? OR WORSE! What if he crashed? What if he was beat up? He's hurt and needs my help!

I'm just about to grab my keys when Anthony walks through the door. "I have food stuffs!" He says. I let out a sigh of relief.

"Did you get my burrito?" I ask, recovering myself quickly.

"Yep!"

Anthony meets my eyes, and I catch a hint of melancholy in his. He only stares for a few seconds before he turns away. I ask him what the matter is but he dismisses the question. "Let's just go eat."

I nod and sit in my usual spot at the cherry wood table. Anthony pulls a salad out of his bag. He takes only a few bites before he sets it aside.

"Anthony?" I question him. That's when I notice the tears in his eyes. "Anthony? Hey, what's wrong?" I gently pry.

Once again, Anthony shakes his head. His hands are shaking and he takes deep breaths.

I'm about to ask him why on earth he's crying, before softly, he asks, "Do you want to go out with me?" His voice cracks and the tears flow freely.

My jaw drops in shock.

Anthony has feelings for me? And... He's crying about it?

"Anthony..." I cup his face in my hairy hands and smile at him. "Asking a guy out is not something you need to cry about."

Anthony doesn't back away, but he looks at me sadly. "It's not about asking a guy out Ian. It's about asking YOU out."

I frown. "What's that supposed to mean?"

Anthony sniffles and I wipe away a tear that rolls down his pink cheek. "It means I love you, Ian."

He tries to turn away, but his face is still in my grip. "Anthony," I whisper. "I love you, too." My voice cracks and we both break down crying.

What a sight that must be: two grown men crying at the dining room table, one's face in the hands of the other.

When we calm down, I smile at him. "Kiss me, you fool."

And he did.
