hour cinco
"I miss you."
The words uttered into the phone were foggily heard through the line, but Yoohee could easily guess what was said.
"It's only been a few hours. Shouldn't you be asleep by now?" Yoohee pressed, fiddling with the stain on her shirt as boredom started to consume her conscious.
"It's only, like, 3 am..."
"Jaekyung!"
"Oh come on! When do I ever sleep anyways?" Jaekyung retorted before her awkward laugh came softly through the phone and into Yoohee's ear. Yoohee smiled a little bit at the sound. She was going to miss hearing it in real life.
"That's not healthy. If anything, I should be the one calling you out of boredom, not vice-versa," Yoohee sighed, finally letting go of her shirt. She found herself surveying the plane for the 3rd time since the annoying ass of a boy was dragged to another seat, "I'm the one who's just been sitting in silence for an hour, with absolutely nothing to do."
"I know... Thats why I wanted to check up on you! To keep you busy, make sure your plane didn't crash or something..." Yoohee's brows furrowed at the joke.
"Don't say that, or else you're gonna jinx it and, watch, I'll be on the news tomorrow but as a dead body floating in the water." Yoohee rambled, throwing her freehand up into the air as if Jaekyung would see it.
"Chill, chill... What's got you on edge?" Jaekyung asked.
"I'm just really bored." Yoohee replied, sliding her hands through her hair.
"Awwwhhh, are you sad your little boyfriend had to move?" Jaekyung teased.
"Shut u-"
Yoohee stopped herself when she felt a presence settle next to her. She turned from the window she was absently staring out of, onto a girl who looked to be around her age, holding a toddler in her lap.
The girl looked a bit shaken up, as if she had just seen a ghost. Her mouth was hanging ever so slightly open, and her skin was so pale she herself began to look like a ghost.
It was completely unnerving for Yoohee to see how clearly uncomfortable the teenager was.
"Hello?" A voice called from the phone hanging loosely from Yoohee's fingertips.
"Sorry Jae, I'm gonna have to call you back..." Yoohee annunciated slowly and softly.
"Wait wh-" but Jaekyung's voice was cut off as Yoohee pressed the end button. Yoohee stole awkward glances at the girl.
"Um, excuse me, mam," Yoohee finally built up the courage to confront, and possibly comfort, the stranger, "Are you ok?"
"Wh-" She trailed off, looking to Yoohee for a moment with her awed expression still in tact. She consequently shook her head and closed her eyes, trying to rid of her starstuck behavior, "Yes. Yes, sorry, I am fine."
Yoohee pursed her lips and slowly turned away from the girl as she nodded her head.
The girl mumbled something incomprehensible, but certain phrases that Yoohee heard made her curious as to what the odd girl said. Yoohee was struggling to keep her common decency and not be nosy. Usually, Yoohee wouldn't mind to be nosy and pushy, but something about this odd situation told her not stay away from it.
But her curiosity got the best of her.
"What'd you say?" Yoohee mentally facepalmed from being so forward, but the fact that this proper-looking, clearly rich schoolgirl with a toddler sat on her lap looked like she was about to lose her mind, really peaked her interest.
She whispered something under her breath.
"Huh?"
"I THINK I JUST MET MIN YOONGI."
There was a moment of silence after her sudden outburst that caught the attention of people rows and rows in front of her.
"Huh?" was all Yoohee could say in response. She seriously thought the lady next to her was insane, but the layers within the stranger was so intriguing Yoohee had to dig deeper.
The stranger took a deep breath before the awaited rant, "Are you ever in a mood where you don't want to deal with anyone, or anybody's shit? So you act like a bitch but then you end up being a bitch to the worst person you could possibly be a bitch to?" The girl finally took another deep breath before continuing, "How could I, Cha Ae Hyun, make such a fool of myself in front of my idol?"
Cha began to hit her palm to her forehead repeatedly while whispering "Pabo, Pabo, Pabo" to herself. Yoohee grabbed the arm of the woman who was breaking down in front of her, and slowly took both of Cha's hands in hers.
"Breathe. I promise everything will be ok," Yoohee reassured, even though she was utterly clueless to the situation at hand. She did not understand a word that Cha had ranted.
Cha was silent, staring at Yoohee intensely with tears threatening to spill from her eyes. She was in so much distress that that it looked as if she was about break down.
But she didn't, she took a deep breath, and began to speak, "I'm sorry for acting this way, I just went through a very overwhelming experience."
The tone of her voice was reminiscent of a spoiled preppy bitch to be quite frank. Cha embodied the typical chaebol daughter in every sense, and that annoyed the hell out of Yoohee. She already disliked the girl.
"Would you want to... maybe... talk about it?" Yoohee inquired, trying to be kind.
Within a moments notice, Cha spilled all of her thoughts. She rambled on and on about her interaction with a stranger who, coincidentally, was her celebrity crush. Yoohee wouldn't have believed the strange story, if she hadn't already known that an idol group was on board the plane.
"So you snapped on a boy band member... and that's why you're freaking out?"
"MIN YOONGI. OF. BTS." Cha screamed, catching the attention of the same elderly couple in front of them, for what seemed the 100th time this whole ride.
"I️ told you we should have booked better seats..." The lady mumbled to her husband, eliciting a bitch stare from Cha.
"Look, Cha..." Yoohee started, trying to calm down the girl, while shutting down this annoying conversation of such superficial problems. Yoohee hated people with no depth, and clearly, Cha was as deep as a kiddie pool, "Everything will be fine. If you want, you should just apologize to the-"
"But my dignity will be lost!" Cha squealed so high it practically hurt Yoohee's ears.
She really is an airhead.
Is all Yoohee could think while staring at Cha.
"I️ know I️ sound beyond dumb..."
Yes. Yes you do.
"But I️ truly care and like this guy. I️ may not know him but, it's just embarrassing to make such a fool of myself in front of him. It's been such a long day for me, having to care for my brother and I️ just..."
"I️ understand," Yoohee cut in, sympathizing with the younger girl. She was clearly caught in a bad moment.
Yoohee thought for a moment before she came up with an idea to please both Cha's distress, and Yoohee's boredom.
"I'll go with you." Yoohee sighed, letting her head fall in disappointment over what she was willingly subjecting herself to.
Yoohee hated the ass of a guy that was in that dumb BDSM group, but whether she admitted it or not,
she liked talking to him.
