19: Both/The One With The Road Trip
WHILE I SAT WATCHING F.R.I.E.N.D.S I had received a text from my phone. It was about noon, and the girls, including myself, had already asked for our days off, so this had to have been them. Sure enough, one glance at my screen I saw the now red headed girl calling.
"Hey, Cass, what's up?" There was a pause at the end of her line. I couldn't help but feel like I was missing something. "Are you serious?" She asked genuinely. Just what was she up to? "I would say yeah, but I have no idea what you're trying imply." A sudden burst of laughter shocks me. "Dude, the concert? We leave for it kind of, I don't know, TODAY!"
Holy crap on a stick! The concert! The roadtrip!
"When do we leave?" It was already so late in the day for us to leave all the way to L.A where the concert would be, so hopefully I wasn't the cause of us arriving late. "We were supposed to leave two hours ago, but I'm at Kira's helping her pack, and she accidently knocked her soda on her pink camera."
I got her that camera for Christmas.
"So we had to dry it quickly, thankfully it still works, but please tell me you're already packed so we can leave." My eyes darted to all the unpacked suitcases, and Melanie Martinez merchandise that was laying around waiting to be stored into the luggage. "Yeah, I'm ready. Just swing by and pick me up." Not giving her a chance to answer back, I hung up the phone and threw every peice of clothing into my nearby suitcases.
By the third, fully-packed, suitcase, I heard a loud, obnoxious car horn from outside. They're here. That's when it hit me. I hadn't even packed my electronics!
In a swift second I was rushing into my bedroom. My heart beating faster every time Cassidy blew the horn. My hands shook, and the pressure of trying to race against the next honk was heating up my back with sweat. Finally, I found my camera next to the 'Death Of A Bachelor' album I had bought a couple weeks ago.
Another thing to hit me was realizing that hours from now, I would actually get to see the face of the man I had been talking to for the past months. The title is what shook me as well. 'Death Of A Bachelor' was based on how he was married. Married. He was settled down to probably the most wonderful women in the world, and I was crushing on him like a school girl.
No matter how much I focused on that word, married, I couldn't fight the feeling of wanting him as my own. Did I feel like the most horrible person for liking a man that is married? Yes. Was I hurt that not only would I be meeting him, but his lovely wife as well? Another yes. Even after I knew what I felt was wrong, did any of it stop me from feeling it? Sadly, no. I was still going to that concert. I was still going to meet him. I was still going to have my feelings.
There was another loud honk, which broke my thoughts and made me go back to packing. I had gathered everything, or at least what I though was everything, until my phone chimed on my side table next to my couch. Once I walked over to it, I could tell Cassidy had texted me.
Wifey:
If you don't walk out here in five seconds, I will personally walk inside there and kick you out
Alright, alright I'm going.
I dragged everything into the car, and snuggled up in the back seat with what looks like Kira's luggage. "So, how was your morning?" Kira asked from the driver's seat. "Good, no texts from Brendon. Though there were a few from Dallon saying how excited he was to meet Melanie."
"Sounds just like Dallon." She said with a smile. I felt bad for the both of us. Dallon was not only married, but had two kids. Even if Kira was to win his heart, I wasn't so sure about the kids. "Well if it brightens anybody's day, I dropped my toothbrush in the toilet." A chuckle escaped me, of course Cassidy would do something like that. "Did you use it still?" I had to ask even though Kira was making disgusted faces. "Of course not!" Cassidy said in the most
dramatic way, then mouthed to me the words, 'I totally did.' I snorted and gave her a fist bump.
"Alright ladies seven hours more of driving and we should be there in no time!" I cheered.
"Wait, seven hours? I wasn't aware of that! We need to take breaks!" Kira freaked. "I could take the wheel if you get tired." I offered. "Thanks, it's just that I got my monthly subscription and I need to check up on it every hour." Kira never liked the word 'period' since all she could think of was the grammar kind, so she called it her 'monthly subscription'.
"We got you, Kiki. Don't worry, I got it too." Cassidy said whilst sucking on a red lollipop and her feet settled on the dashboard. "I guess that makes me the only one free of my 'shark week'." Though I gloated about it, I earned two death stares from them.
This was going to be a long day.

By the time we had gotten to the hotel it was maybe ten o'clock and we were all tired from the trip. I got out of the overly stuffed car, and carried my luggage out of the trunk. "You know, if I didn't just have a giant ass smoothie, I would want to just take in this beautiful view, but since I did," Cassidy said taking off to the hotel entrance,"Bye Felicia!"
Kira caught up with me, and we walked like normal people into the hotel.
The automatic doors slid apart and I felt like a small kid who just entered Disney Land. "Woah." I sighed out looking at all its glorious designs and patterns. As a photographer you tend to notice the details no matter how small, and this hotel had so much detail. "My god, it's beautiful." Kira released a breath taken sigh.
After gazing at the marvelous sight, the curiosity of wanting to know how it looked on the inside urged my feet forward. "Let's go check out the room!" I told Kira who was still sagging behind me.
The relief of not being trapped inside a car gave me so much energy I was sure even Red Bull couldn't fuel me. When we got to the room, the door was left open. "What the-" Kira began to say but was then interrupted by Cassidy yelling,"What was in that god damn smoothie?"
She was currently in the restroom, and I felt bad for wanting to laugh at her pain. "Sorry, that was me. I may have slipped some laxative into your smoothie." My eyes widened at Kira's comment. Then I remembered The Pranking Games.
We held it every time we visited a hotel together, everyone trying to 'out-prank' the each other. I have to say, Kira was really trying this time. She looked at me and said,"there's more where that came from. So I beg of you, came at me, bro!" Not only had I forgotten about the trip here, but now I had completely missed my preparation for the pranks. If there was one word to describe me as now, it would be 'screwed'.
The only way for me to get them to back off me, and not notice I was totally vulnerable to their pranks would be by bluffing my way to saftey. "Don't get so cocky, Kato, you don't think I would be so ignorant as to forget about The Pranking Games? How about you watch out? Because Penelope Jenson is about to mop the floors with both of you."
"So Kiki is the one who cursed my stomach?" Cassidy had said coming out of the restroom. It looked like she had been through the worst with her hair a complete mess, the color in her face faded, and her sluggish posture. "That is correct," Kira stepped up to her with full confidence,"What are you gonna do about it, shorty?" I gasped. Cassidy was an inch shorter than Kira and I, but we made sure not to bring it up seeing as Cassidy hates being 5'2 as it is. "You'll regret that. You will rue the day!"
Goosebumps chilled my arms, I was more than terrified being friends with these two. Everyone turned to savages when we pranked each other. If I was to survive these games I needed to be spontaneous, and that was just up my alley. The only thing I hoped wouldn't happen was that Brendon, Sarah, Dallon, and his wife wouldn't get caught up in the mess.
May the odds be ever in my favor.
