Chapter 11: Anastasia Stephanie Emily Rossi
Jayden’s P.O.V
“It has been two months Lexa and you still push me away, when are you going to accept the fact that you’re stuck with me,” I knew my words were harsh, but Alex had down this exact thing after Stephanie died I didn’t want to lose her again. She looked like she was going to cry and stormed out.
“I’m done here, we are through,” she shouted as she got into her car her belly looked as if it were about to split in half she was due to have her baby in a month and a half she was shocked to find pregnancy’s lasted anywhere from 9 to 10 months. She had considered putting the child up for adoption but then found out about her brother and decided to keep it.
She drove away and I followed her I knew a quicker way to get to her house than the typical way and there is also a lot less traffic. I arrived moments before she did she got out of the car and I pulled her into a hug in a way I felt it was my fault, she kept pushing me away. in the months leading up to the death of Emily Prentiss I had been freaking out about the whole pregnancy. All my friends at school thought that I was the father. Everyone kept jeering and bullying saying stuff like ‘you and that slut should go on 16 and pregnant’ ‘oh look there goes baby daddy’ it got so bad that I ended up shutting down my facebook and spending most of my time in the library, I pushed Alex away but felt so bad I ended up apologizing.
“I don’t want to lose you again,” I mumbled into her hair.
“I know,” she whispered into my chest she started crying,
I held her at arm’s length. “listen I have to go home, I’m supposed to baby sit the kids tomorrow night why don’t you and Josie come over, we could have a movie marathon,” I smiled which made her smiled she pushed my hands away and kissed my cheek
“I’ll think about it, text you my answer,” she smiled pulling her bag out of the car. She was typical Lexa, she was my Lexa.
“See you tomorrow, Lexa,” I said walking back to my car. It was a present for getting into grade eleven early. I’m in my final year of high school and I’m only 16 well I’m 17 in two months. But I’m only supposed to be in grade eleven but just before spring break last year the principal suggested I moved into grade eleven I managed to pass all the subjects and managed the work load fine but it was being the youngest in my grade that I found weird. But I don’t mind it now. As she got inside out of my view, my phone buzzed. It was a text from Alex.
‘Guess we’re babysitting tomoz ;)’ typical Lexa, I could never imagine her any different. She is more than my girlfriend. She is my best friend. I would never leave her. I would be her friend even if we split up. I wanted to remain her friend until the day I die.
Night fell and I helped dad with the renovations our house was getting a little small with three more kids in the house even if we shared bedrooms. Kyle and I were in one room and the girls in another it made it hard sometime with Kyle being 5 and me being 16 I have a curfew not a bedtime, Kyle is in bed by 7:30pm most nights, that’s including weekends. I suggested moving into the attic. But mum didn’t like that idea I guess she didn’t want to get rid of all the stuff that she keeps up there. So we are adding an extension onto the house and dad will move his study out into the room above the garage so that we will all have our own bedroom. This will be good. It won’t be a mess any more sometimes I can’t walk into the room without tripping over soccer boots and other mismatched items. Alex paid me out about it she said that Kyle’s stuffed dinosaur was very me.
“I can totally tell this is yours, I bet you can’t sleep without it,” she had jeered, “bet you curl up in a ball with it in-between your arms, probably suck on your thumb too,”
The next night mum and dad were getting ready for their night at the movies, “my numbers on the fridge if you need me, there’s some casserole in the fridge for dinner, Sarah isn’t working tonight so if you need her for any reason you can call her, her number is also on the fridge,” mum reminded me about fifteen times before Alex turned up, Josie trotting along behind her. “Don’t hesitate to call,” mum yelled before she got in the car. She seriously worried too much. By the time seven thirty rolled around Gracie and Kyle were in bed. Alex and I were sitting on the couch playing my guitar while Emma and Josie were lying on the ground listening and giggling at little things. We did like a small touch of our hands. Or Alex leaning her head on my shoulder. They were being typical little girls. I kissed Alex on the cheek.
“Ewwww,” laughed Josie
“Keep it in your pants jay we don’t need to see this,” agreed Emma
“than leave,” replied Alex throwing a pen at Josie.
“Dave said to keep it PG and I doubt he was talking about the movies you’re watching,” she replied
Alex smiled “ what David doesn’t know won’t hurt him,” she laughed before rubbing her side and wincing “no, no, no I’m not due for another month,” she muttered to herself. I glanced at her nervously, “it’s nothing,” she gave a week smile before wincing again
“that is not nothing,” I stood up and rushed to the kitchen I grabbed the number for Sarah and dialed “hi can you come over I got to take Alex to the hospital,”
“Jay calm down, I’ll be there,” Sarah’s voice was clear and calm through the phone
“Jay!!!” I heard Alex scream
“go,” said Sarah
“Emma, will you be ok until Sarah gets here,” I asked as she nodded
Josie opened the front door and then the passenger side door for Alex as I helped her in. Josie climbed into the back seat as I ran around and started the car I through my mobile into the back seat “Josie can you call my mum tell her Alex is going into labor and Sarah is going around to the house,” she nodded and started scrolling through my contacts. “Alex you should probably call David,” I said.
They both held the phones to their ears and I got half conversations from each of them, “hey Dave it’s me. The baby’s coming jay is driving me to the hospital. No, no the public one. Yes I know we have private health but this one’s closer. Please David just meet me there,”
“Hi Mrs. Parkinson it’s Josie, Jay told me to call you to tell you, yeah everyone’s fine it’s just that Alex is about to go into labor so he is driving her to the hospital, yeah Sarah is there now, jay probably is going to stay with her until she is allowed to go or at least until the baby is born I’m not sure, ok I will bye,”
I turned into the hospital I parked right outside the doors and a security guard looked at me suspiciously. “Josie, take Alex inside I need to move the car,” Alex struggled to get out of the car but did manage she was inside and started having a contraction. Nurses rushed to help her she was put into a wheel chair and taken into a room; I found a parking lot just as 3 black FBI SUVs drove into the parking lot. JJ, Reid, Will, Hennery, Garcia, Kevin, Hotch, Jack, David and Morgan filled out of the cars and up into the front doors I quickly joined the group.
Alex didn’t know but as soon as the summer hit I was going to be part of the team. I had already sent in my application it was sent on to Hotch my internship was going to be with several different teams the BAU was just for the first six months every six months my internship would be sent off to a different team who would specialize in a different field. After 2 years I can either choose to apply for a yearly internship with one of the 4 teams or two go to the academy. I was planning on surprising Alex by just rocking up in the BAU one day.
David’s P.O.V
“We’re looking for the maternity ward?” I asked the nurse behind the counter,
“is your wife having a baby?” she smiled at me
“no its my god daughter,” I replied
“ok then, patients name,” she asked a bit surprised by my previous answer
“Alexandra Stedler,” I answered hoping Alex hadn’t convinced the nurse her surname was Rossi she has been trying to convince me to let her change it for months
“ok yep if you want to follow me,” she lead us through the corridors of the hospital, into a small room where Alex was lying on the bed dressed in a thin paper like nightgown.“Here you are you must note only family are allowed in the delivery room but Alexandra isn’t quite ready to deliver,”
“How do you feel Lexa?” asked Jayden in a caring tone.
“Like I have a long night ahead of me,” she replied her eyelids drooping a bit.
“So are you going completely natural?” asked JJ who was the only one who had been through the same thing
“no way, whatever drugs I can get, I will take,” Alex replied stubbornly. We spent most of the night talking about whatever we could only getting interrupted by Alex screaming and cursing in pain from her contractions. It was 3 am before she was ready to deliver and she finally gave birth to a baby girl at 5:30 am.
“What are you going to call her?” asked Josie back in the maternity ward.
“How about Josephine?” Alex joked
“no that’s my name how can I be cool Aunt Josie if my niece has the same name as me?” Josie sneered
“I don’t see you being cool Aunt Josie any day, first you have to be cool,” Jayden prodded her in the back
“what about Anastasia,” I suggested
“Anastasia Rossi, I like it,” Alex agreed
“hang on Rossi? Shouldn’t she have the surname of her mother because she clearly isn’t going to meet her father?” I asked but I knew the answer it was the same reason she wanted to change her surname
“my father is an arrogant son of a bitch who wouldn’t know a good thing if it punched him in the face, so my daughter isn’t going to share the name as him,” she could be extremely obnoxious sometimes. This was one of those times
“what about a middle name or names,” asked Reid
“well she is named after my mother so two of my best friends is only fitting,”
“don’t do that you may offend someone,” Hotch warned
“fine I will name her after my mother and two friends who have past,” Alex smiled “guys I would like you to meet Anastasia Stephanie Emily Rossi,”
“god parents?” asked Jayden
“easy Morgan and Garcia,” she smiled before they even got the choice to answer
“I’m hurt,” Jayden replied sarcastically
“well you get the most important role in a little girls life,” Alex leaned close to him with Anastasia still in her arms
“oh yeah what’s that?” the sarcasm clearly hearable in his voice
“you will be like a father to her, that is if you don’t run away screaming,” she laughed as a nurse came to fill out some paperwork that Alex, Morgan and Garcia all signed.
Alex spent the next 2 day in the hospital getting some rest. I spent most of those two day’s with Morgan adding the finishing touches to the nursery. The night Alex was due home from the hospital I invited everyone around to the house to have a kind of baby shower type thing Garcia was the one who nagged me about the whole baby shower. JJ and Will arrived with Hennery tottering up the stairs in front of them. Reid was still getting out of their car he had probably asked for lift. Clean freaks that don’t drive makes for some funny situations. I let them into the house told them to allow the other in but I had to go get Alex.
She walked in carry the tiny little baby in her arms I could tell Alex was going to be a great mother. She had practically raised herself and Josie. Sometimes I wish she could still be the little girl I met 11 years ago. Blonde hair in piggy tails, missing half of her teeth she was happy, she trusted people so easily. She was a little girl with no fear, with no reason to have fear. She had never lost anyone or anything she cared for. That all changed when her father left, they kept in touch for about a month but then he moved to Australia and she never heard from him again. She was only starting to feel happy again when her mother was murdered. They were planning a trip to America to come visit me but because Alex got sick they decided to post pone the trip for 2 weeks so that Alex could get better they were supposed to leave three days after the murder. Three days after Alex’s fifth birthday.
Everybody gathered in the lounge room Alex was hesitant but eventually she handed Anastasia to JJ and then to Hotch, as I watched she glanced nervously whenever she was passed on. Alex looked as if she was going dive in and snatch the baby away. Guess it’s just her mothering instincts. Alex laid Anastasia down in the small crib in her bedroom put the baby monitor against the side of the crib and started to sing a lullaby. The same lullaby her mother sang to her when she was young the song that she sang to Josie almost every night. Well whenever we were home.
“Calm on Garcia, I waiting for us,” I said opening the door fully after she finished the lullaby
“this was all her doing wasn’t it?” Alex asked “this whole get together?”
“Kind of,” I smiled leading her out of the room. She sat down on the couch in the living room. And Garcia came into the room carry boxes stacked up above her head wrapped in different wrapping paper
“Penelope Garcia Please tell me this is not all from you,” laughed Alex,
“no, these are from the team,” she walked back into the kitchen and came out with a pile of presents just as high, “ these are from me,” Alex laughed.
“I reckon you should open this one first, it’s from Emily she bought it before she well,” JJ seemed to have trouble saying that Emily died, but she handed the box to Alex.
Alex tore through the paper to reveal a box sticky taped to the lid was a note which Alex read aloud
“Alex, I’m sorry I have been avoiding you these past couple days, I just haven’t been feeling right, I saw this in a cute little boutique and automatically thought of you, your care free attitude and the way you are so easily loved by everyone around you, your sarcasm, your sense of humor, are some of the reasons I love you I hope you pass these qualities onto your daughter, I love the way you are always like ‘oh no you did not,’ whenever someone insults you. You keep a brave face and you don’t trust people easily. You have not had an easy life and that has made you one of the bravest people I know. I am proud to call you my friend, but we are more than that we are family.” Alex wiped the tears from her eyes and opened the box. Inside was a little playsuit with a tiara on the front with the words ‘I am a princess and my mummy is a queen,’ Alex smiled as she pulled a necklace with a tiara charm she fastened it around her neck I knew it would stay there for along long time. She opened the other boxes piles of baby clothes and stuffed animals filled the coffee table as she got closer to the end of the piles Garcia had told her to leave two of the presents for last as she opened the last two boxes and found a tiny pair of black converse. The last box held a larger pair of black converse. The little pair had been bedazzled with the silver letters A and R the bigger pair were bedazzled with the letters A and S. Garcia had gone overboard with the entire thing.
As everyone was leaving, Hotch turned back to Alex, who was leaning against the front door. Hotch pointed to her a said “don’t even think about coming into work for at least 6 weeks. Get some rest,”
