Should the voting age be 16?

Hello peolple of all people, I had to write an argumentative text in english months ago and I just wanted to publish it here because I think the topic is actually interesting.

In conversations and the media is often discussed about the right age to vote, which leads me to the question if the voting age should be 16.

However some people think that the right age to vote shouldn't be lowered to 16.

First 16 and 17 year olds aren't mature enough to vote. If you take a look at the law for example you can see that they are not allowed to consum tabacco  products because they aren't mature enough. How can they be mature enough to vote then?

Added to that it could have a catastrophic impact on the political landscape. Mostly 16 and 17 year olds are still going to school and still live by their parents. They could be  too easily influenced by their parents or teachers political views.

But the most important thing is that especially 16 year olds aren't educated enough to vote. I for example started having politics as a subject in 9th grade for two hours a week and in 10th grade for one hour a week. After all, I can say that this isn't enough knowledge to know how a whole country works.

However some people want the voting age to be lowered to 16.

First 16 and 17 year olds could be more responsible at this age if they get the right to vote. For example, I'm 16 years old and if I got the right to vote, I'd feel more responsible for my actions because I could take part in the government's decisions by voting. I'd feel that I count because in an election every vote matters.

Added to that the youth is the future but still they don't have the right to vote. In the end the young people have to fix the mistakes some old people made. People often say the old ones may have the experience but all these young people are full of new ideas. Why can't they vote at the age of 16 or 17?

But the most important thing is that 16 and 17 year olds do be mature enough to vote because they are also allowed to join the army, leave school, work or pay taxes. Either you give them full rights or none of this. But you can't choose something between these two opportunities because when 16 or 17 year olds work and pay taxes, they help the country to work. In my opinion it seems to be unfair, not to give them full rights because when you pay taxes and work you deserve the right to vote in my point of view.

After looking at both sides, I'd say that 16 year olds should be allowed to take part in an election because at this age they are able and allowed to make decisions that could influence their whole life (like leaving school early) for example. And in the end they have to deal with the consequences some old  people caused. But if you allow them to get voting rights, the schools really have to teach politics as a subject in 7th or 8th grade, so that everyone is educated enough at the age of 16.

What's your point of view?
