( ★ ) Cousins, Massachusetts was the town that hundreds of people traveled to every year. It was right on the beach and allowed those in the area to still enjoy the sand and water while not having to travel hundreds of thousands miles. The town was best known for its debutante ball every year, girls and boys dressing up to show their elegance and maturity. The ball was normally organized by the country club with a board of members helping as well, some of them being susannah fisher, jennifer bardot, and brittany wright.

The town was also known for those that lived there and the houses they had along the beach. While hundreds of people actually lived in cousins year round, hundreds of people had summer houses there. The Bardot family was one of those families, along with the fisher family. Susannah and Jennifer had grown up together, along with their friend, Laurel. Along the way, they found more friends and eventually had kids that all became friends. It was the perfect story they wanted. Although, nothing was perfect in their friend group or their kids friend group.

That summer would be one of the last, if not the last, summers where everyone was together. It was either everyone was going off to college or they just didn't have time those following summers, and while it pains them, they were prepared to make that summer the best summer they've ever had. If only things ever went according to plan when it came to cousins.

( ★ ) Marlene Paterson wasn't sure who she was. She wanted to be this confident girl that always had a positive outlook and attitude on life. She wanted to be able to go out in public without thinking people were looking at her funny or were making fun of her. She wanted to be able to be confident in herself. But that wasn't who she was and Marlene knew that deep down. Marlene knew that she was and always would be an overthinker. No matter what people told her, she would always look in the mirror more than five times to make sure she looked good. She would always be that way and nothing would change that. Not even the confident girl that lived across the street from the Paterson family, the one girl that made Marlene happy.

Vivica Ermington was the one person that made Marlene happy but the two would never work out and Marlene had come to terms with that. After vivica broke up with her earlier that year because they were too different, Marlene knew that no one else would want to date her or be with her. She wasn't the type of person people would fall in love with. Vivica was the one people fell in love with

That summer though was when everything would change. Marlene was dead set on getting her ex girlfriend back and becoming confident in herself, tired of being pushed around and held back because of the insecurities that ran through her mind every second of every day. She was done letting other things control her and her life. She was done letting her thoughts get in the way of a relationship with the person she really really liked.

( ★ ) Vivica ermington was one of the most confident people that lived in cousins. She always had a positive outlook on life and her future, not letting anyone's opinion on her get her down or upset her. If only people noticed that it was all an act and that vivica ermington wasn't the girl she portrayed herself to be. Throughout elementary school and middle school, the girl got bullied for not being as skinny and pretty as the other girls. She let it bother her for a while before deciding that she wasn't going to listen to them anymore. She knew she was pretty, maybe not to others, but to herself and that's all that mattered.

Although, no matter how confident the girl was and no matter how confident she acted, the disgusting thoughts still ran through her mind. Even after reassuring herself, she still felt disgusted with herself half of the time. She tried to stay confident in herself but it got harder as time passed. Trying to hold up an act was finally getting to her and she wasn't sure how to come back from it. But one person was able to change that. Marlene Paterson brought back the confident and beautiful vivica ermington, making her wishes come true.

( ★ ) Marlene Paterson and vivica ermington had been neighbors for years, growing up as best friends. By their first year in high school, they were dating. By their second, they were broken up. It all came crumbling down fast and neither one of the girls could truly process what was going on. Vivica knew she was the one to end the relationship because they were too different but she never understood why she did it in the end. They had been getting along just fine and while they had their differences, they still loved each other. But it was too late, vivica had already done it and had hurt the one person she loved more than anyone else. And Marlene was left to pick up the pieces of her broken heart. If only Marlene had never wished that vivica would love her forever.

Their hatred for each other wasn't long lived though. Just a few months later, their love for each other returned. Marlene couldn't live without the love of her life and vivica couldn't live without the one person who saw her for who she was. That summer would be the one thing to bring them back together and that was enough. They would be fine if their wishes came true.
