Chapter 17. Only Him & Her

POV: Narrator.

It was 11 p.m. and sleep was far away. Vinneta had received a follow request on Instagram from Jacob Smith and was now fighting with her emotions and situations whether she should accept it or not.

After twisting and turning in her bed for hours and not being able to shake the thought off her mind, she accepted his request and sent him a follow back.

Not even a minute later she received a DM.

J. Hey, how's your leg now?

V. It's better, what are you doing up so late?

J. Can't sleep thinking what your answer will be.

Reading the message, Vinneta felt like crying. Not wanting to do something she might regret later, she switched her phone off and went back to trying to fall asleep.

Vinneta woke up when Ms. Kerd continued to force her to come along with her to Church.

Every happiness needs to be shared with God. That was Ms. Kerd's fundamental of living. Finally, they visited the church

As there is no chance of winning against mom's decisions is a universal rule, so even Vinneta had to go with her.

'Thank you, God, for giving me this happiness. Today all the bad things in my life ended.' Vinneta in her mind... As her mom was still praying.

Suddenly, the Clergyman called Vinneta.

"So you came here....you said you didn't believe in God?"

"No, my mom forced me to come here," she said in a dry tone.

"Well...you were praying and thanking good for your happiness." The Clergyman replied reading her mind.

'How does he even know this?' Vinneta wondered.

"How do I know that?" Clergyman laughed. "Don't take God as a joke dear, you don't know what life is right now."

Ms. Kerd was shocked, she couldn't get a word of what they were talking about.

"What is going on Vinneta?" her mom asked holding her hand.

Vinneta was deep in her thoughts. If her wishes are getting fulfilled.

"At what time did you receive the call for your new job, Ms. Kerd? " Clergyman questioned her mom.

"How do you know about that?"

Clergyman laughed.

"Around 5.30 in the evening..." Ms.Kerd replied thinking deeply.

'That's around the same time I met the Clergyman and asked him to fulfill that wish. Even Jacob confessed his feelings after my meeting with the Clergyman.' Vinneta thought.

"God has blessed us! Finally, I can fulfill Vinneta's dream." Her mom rejoiced

"Are you new here haven't seen you here around?"

"I think it was fate that brought you two close?"

Someone called Clergyman out, he leaned towards Vinneta and whispered in her ears, "I already granted your two wishes, feel free to ask for the other three. Use them wisely, because you won't be getting any more."

It's hard to believe something like this in the 21st century may be the world is more mysterious than our imagination.

The Clergyman's words were repeating again and again in her mind.

Vinneta was disturbed after she realized that the Clergyman's words were indeed true...

They reached home and Ms. Kerd was in a rush to head for her office, it was her first day at the office, she was totally hyped, but nervous as well because of the circumstances she had faced in the past. But the strange conversation Vinneta and the Clergyman had in the church was nagging her.

"What was all that about Clergyman seems like you have met before?" She asked Vinneta who was walking toward her room but stopped listening to her mom's voice.

"It's just that sometimes we meet someone and our life starts changing...I think he is close to his he knew us all." She said.

"It's quite fascinating to know that even today's generation believes in this." Ms. Kerd said and headed to her room to get all the stuff she needed to take with her.

"I'll be on my way, call me if anything comes up." She said getting out of the main door.

Vinneta stood there to see her off and let out a heavy sigh once the door was closed. Now she was standing alone, only silence accompanying her. She was twelve floors too high for the sound of traffic to fill the emptiness. Her thoughts went back to Jacob's confession, was it possible to get love so easily?

She has liked him ever since she saw him in his cafe, busy taking orders from a man who was ranting without a pause. His eyes held an innocence she had never seen in a boy her age before. All she wanted to do was to hug him and never let him go.

Her life, however, had been her biggest enemy so far. Working double shifts to fill their belly and manage tuition fees, she cannot afford to have any kind of distraction, let alone love.

She knew she was not someone special who could be loved by someone so pure as Jacob. His confession had scared her. She was scared of love, she was scared of herself. She was scared of Jacob's hatred that she might have to face if anything goes wrong in the future. It always did.

Her thoughts were broken by the loud echo of the doorbell. She moved to the door and opened it slowly only for her heart to start thumping loudly in her ears.

Standing there in all his glory was Jacob Smith, a soft smile adorning his features, enhancing his beauty.

"Uhm..." He looked down shyly scratching the back of his head unable to say anything.

"You...did not answer me yesterday, even today...when I sent you that text." He said after a few minutes looking straight into her eyes.

Vinneta did not know what to say, she wanted to shout out a loud yes for the whole world to know, but not to the neighbor who had been peeking through her door ever since Jacob rang the doorbell. She held his hand and pulled him inside, closing the door.

Jacob looked around observing her house, he was quite fascinated with the interior. Looking at the building from outside, it was hard to believe that this place could have such a welcoming and homey feeling. There was nothing that could be considered a luxury or a great asset, but it was somewhere he would want to return to after a long day.

"Uhm...I don't know how to say this..." Vinneta said gaining his attention.

"It's hard for me right now...I don't want to hurt you because of my selfishness..." She trailed off as Jacob looked at her with longing eyes. It was getting harder for her to reject him every second as his eyes bore into hers.

"You are the only girl who has made something stir inside of me. I want you more than anything in this I have ever wanted. And I know it's not a mere attraction I feel. You inspire me, you motivate me, you energize me. Just looking at your smile makes me forget all my problems. You are home to me." Tears pooled in his eyes as he confessed what he had in his heart. The words were not from his mouth, but his heart and soul, his very being wanted to submit to her.

He was him in front of her, no mask, no facade, just him, and he was not ashamed of it. He was not ashamed to shed tears in front of her as those tears narrated the tale his heart would sing. It was only him and her, and nobody else.

Vinneta felt a sharp prick seeing his tears, only he was strong enough to show his vulnerability in front of someone like her. Only her Jacob could be so pure, her heart was thumping, her ears went cold and she could not stop herself anymore. Her legs took her closer to him, her word, telling her only one thing.

Jacob stood in front of her as her hands cupped his face, pulling him to herself she placed her lips over his. The kiss carried the pain, the fear, the love, the satisfaction, everything she was feeling right now.

Jacob could feel her, feel everything she was feeling. Snaking his hands on her waist he pulled her closer, he reassured her that whatever fears she may face, he will be there holding her tight.

"I love you too."
