The first time she met him, Annabeth was trembling at the rock wall. She had already gone higher than most. The heat of the sun made her skin burn and she gripped firmly onto the rocks despite her sweaty palms.

Panting as she went higher, Annabeth looked to the left. A little way down, there was a guy, eyebrows raised. He started at the same time as she and Annabeth felt a sense of competitiveness wash over her when he came to her level.

Spurred on faster by it, she went faster despite her whole body shaking with disagreement. Annabeth noticed the camper's body shaking but without seeing the face, Annabeth figured he could be laughing even if it wasn't likely. By that point, she was ahead of him, but she couldn't risk him catching up. Annabeth let out heavy pants as her feet shook. When she reached the top, it felt like going home after the most tiring day at school.

She pushed herself up at the top so she was sitting. He was right below her and was almost slipping. Oddly, she didn't want her competitor to fail. She held her hand out and he held on smiling at her. She pulled him up and laughed as he panted. They put their heads together, slowly, hesitantly, but stayed there.

Sorry this is short, but originally I intended this to be a one shot. I decided that I wanted to post so that didn't happen. The next chapter will be like 400+ words and after that like 800+ words or something. Shorter chapters means less procrastination for me tbh.
