03) Skipping

Logically, Annabeth knew it was the last summer she had before going to college, but her nerves were getting the best of her. It wasn't like she liked gardening too much anyways (she definitely wasn't the one to steal the strawberries.), so that ended up with her sitting in the stifling hot cabin, her books on her bed and her legs as comfortable as possible.

She jerked up as soon as she heard a knock on the door. She hadn't expected that, given that most people didn't even wander away to her cabin. It was usually around the Hermes cabin if they decided to skip some activity and wanted to hang out with someone. Percy's voice shocked her even further. "Annabeth, are you there?"

Annabeth ignored him. She had to finish some of her work. Percy slammed the door open, and started to talk really fast, "I didn't see you and I knew you didn't like gardening and you ate the strawberries most of the time anyway so I came to find you." Then he let out a strangled gasp. "What are you doing?" He scrambled towards her, shoving her books into a bag. "Nope no studying today," Percy demanded. "We'll go hang out in the Hermes cabin."

"Um no Jackson," Annabeth raised an eyebrow, but Percy grabbed her wrist and dragged her out. "Rude much?"

"It's my pleasure wise girl." Percy smiled sarcastically and grandly opened the doors to the Hermes cabin. "We have visitors." He announced and bowed.

"Overdramatic much seaweed brain?" Annabeth grinned as she entered the cabin.

"Definately," Percy nodded enthusiastically. "Stop the long face. We're in the Hermes cabin now!"

Annabeth really hoped she didn't regret it.

***

So no she didn't end up regretting it. The Hermes cabin was a little too wild for her tastes, but given that she'd been able to hang out with Percy for the past two weeks, it was believable. Malcolm had been given a tip by a little birdie, and her books had been shoved into a locker and the key given to the director.

Annabeth pretended to be frustrated, but in reality, it was great. Besides, it was better practice to fight with a knife (she was going to defeat Percy one day if it was the last thing she ever did) and make her sandcastles way better. Seaweed brain wasn't going to beat her in that.

Never.

Percy and Annabeth were lying on the sand, arms interlaced unconsciously and their food kept to the side. Annabeth focused on the constellations.

"I'm hoping you're liking the camp," Annabeth couldn't see Percy's face, but his tone was hesitant.

"Loving the food definitely," Annabeth nodded to herself.

"Anything else?" Percy asked and Annabeth turned to face her head towards him. He raised an eyebrow and Annabeth shoved him back, laughing.

"Definately not," Annabeth knew it was a joke, but she felt herself move a little closer.

"Never," Percy shook his head, eyes wide. "This place is terrible. Couldn't imagine anything worse." He took a cookie, broke it in half, offered half to her and shoved the rest into his mouth.

"Calm down Jackson," Annabeth let out a short laugh. "The hermes cabin is crazy." They definitely were. (Annabeth was never going to play TDS again, especially with them.)

"Gardening it is," Percy gasped out. "They always play TDS." Annabeth raised her eyebrows and groaned.

"I'll have to garden," She slammed her hand into the sand with fake horror. "What a disaster."

"Couldn't imagine anything worse," Percy's tone was betrayed by the look on his face.

"Well it's better than seeing your face," Annabeth shrugged and laughed at Percy's offended expression.
He cried in horror. "This pretty face has done nothing to you," He pouted and shook his head.

"It definitely has," Annabeth laughed, getting closer. Their shoulders were touching. She definitely didn't like hanging out with him. (Definately)
