Broken Promises
Their eyes stared at each other, brown and green looking back at one another.
"Please don't. There are other ways to accomplish this."
He took a cautious step towards her, his eyes pleading. She loosened her posture as if in defeat before she placed her hand lightly a top the button.
"I'm sorry. It has to be this way."
"No, it doesn't! You don't have to do this!"
"It does. This is the only way that we will ever be able to stop what's going on."
"I refuse to believe that.Just... Just please step away from the button and come here."
"I can't. You know I can't."
"Kisa, please. I'm begging you."
"I'm sorry we'll never get to see the Earth up close like we promised."
She smiled at him sadly, her hand pushing down slowly on the button. Throughout the room sounded an alarm. The sound of hundreds of containers briefly permeated from the other side of the wall. Aeron lurched forward as the ship jerked, looking always at Kisa. One lone tear was on her cheek.
He ran towards her to pull her away from the glass, but it was too late. A giant arm shot through the glass window, grabbing her. She cried out, biting her lip. Another tear fell slowly down her face, and she disappeared into the room of monsters.
Aeron made it out that day. The bad guys were taken down, but he had lost her. On cold nights at Derinsk, he would like to take a walk and look up at the sky. He could see the Earth in the night, and it always made him think of when they promised to see Earth up close.
