Chapter One: The Bear Trap and the Broken Leg
"Ahah! I did it! My camera is up and working again!" Jay started to record Tim, smiling. Tim looked at him.
"Oh, yay...." Tim said sarcastically. Jay tilted his head, frowning and lowering the camera.
"Hey, I need this. I need pure evidence, to piece in this puzzle, binary, take notes... I need this so everything can make sense." Jay said sternly. Tim looked at the camera, then back up at him.
"How did you break it, again?" Jay turned off the camera and set it on the desk.
"The masked man I was telling you about, the white mask, with the creepy eyes and his.... his.... creepy little sneak and tackle attacks...."
"That's a great way to describe him." Tim gave him a thumb up.
"I know, right?" Jay smiled again.
"I'm thinking about recording tonight." Jay looked out the window, wondering what's beyond the woods. There were so many questions to be answered.
"Tonight? You have truly lost it. Like the day wasn't dangerous enough, right, Bluejay?" Tim got out of the chair he was sitting in, standing up and stretching.
"There's a chance I might die... but I'll get more evidence, there's a higher chance I'll get more evidence." Jay said stubbornly.
"The only evidence there will be, is your body when the police find it." Tim now sighed. Jay looked at him, not really knowing what to say now.
"I'm going to head out. So, yeah, bye Jay. Just-..... just try not to get killed, okay?" he walked out of Jay's room.
"Yeah, I'll try not to." Jay said.
"Jerk..." Jay muttered under his breath. He sighed and sat down on the chair at his desk, opening his laptop to uncover what the binary he found last night said. He grabbed his notebook and started working. When he started going, he'll do it for hours. To recording, binary, uploading, you name it. That's exactly what he did, it took him until midnight. He looked up at the ticking clock, trying to think of something else to get his trouble mind to stop thinking about Alex, Tim and Brian.
"Alright, camera." he said, picking it up and standing up. He zoned out now, gripping the camera. The binary troubled him.
"Hurry!"
"It's too late!"
"Why didn't you listen!"
"Move on!" he shook it off, now uncertain of his decisions.
"I.... I can't give up..... I'm not a quitter... I-I don't care if I die, knowing I never saved anyone... well, I care about the never saving anyone part, but... I won't stop until I fix this, know the truth.... just help something or someone.... be useful about something..." he now grew confident, heading out the door. He heard a snap outside, like metal almost, then a scream that sounded like a man's.
"What the-.....?" he started to rush downstairs and to the front door, unlocking it and aggressively opening it. He ran outside filming, the camera had night vision, luckily for him. So he could now see in the dark. He didn't stop until he saw that man in the yellow hood, his leg stuck in a bear trap. The man looked at him, growling slightly.
"Hey.... you're the one who saved me a couple of times...." The man looked down at the bear trap, not growling anymore.
"I-I can help you... maybe I'm an idiot for doing this, but... you helped me, so.... I'll help you...." he set the camera down, getting on his knees.
"It looks like your leg is broken, now... t-this will hurt... s-so....." he grabbed each side of it, beginning to pry it open. The man hissed, covering his mouth and trying not to scream.
"God, it's really in there-" Jay tried to pry harder. The man screamed as it was slowly coming out.
"It's coming out, you'll be out soon..." the man grabbed the bear trap, too, trying to also pry it off, hissing once again. It was faster progress, soon he was free.
"There you go!" The man tried to stand, but ended up back on the ground again.
"You can't stand, can you?" he tried again, only to end up sitting back on the ground. Jay left his camera there, only for the man in the mask, as he was telling Tim earlier, to snatch it and run away. Jay looked at him quickly.
"Hey!!!" he stood up. The man tried to now drag himself away. Jay bit his lip, looking back at him. He sighed, letting the man in the mask steal the camera.
"O-Oh well... I have more... plus, I haven't recorded anything really interesting...." the man slowly stopped dragging himself, every inch he moved stung like Hell.
"You should at least give it some days to heal. I'm not doctor, but.... you need to see one-" the man snapped at him, growling violently.
"Okay, okay... but you really should... I.... I just want to help you...." he walked over to him, standing in front of him. The man looked up at him, staying silent. Jay got on the ground again, they looked at each other.
"All I can offer is you to stay at my house until you get better... but, that's a stupid and horrible idea, because I barely even know you, heh.... but... you did help me...." the man just stared.
"It's the only thing I can do.... I can't let you go like this.... you're bleeding out....." the man looked away. Jay tried to pick him up. The man looked back at him in surprise.
"I mean..... you can't really do anything bad with a broken leg, right? Heh...." he wheezed, successfully picking him up.
"O-Okay... yeah... t-this is fine....." Jay forced a smile. The man inhaled, letting out a distressed sigh.
