The Things I Do For Love
Catwoman quietly swung down and noiselessly landed on the metal pipe below. Her hands gripped the pipe by her sides as it was snug in the crook between the long heel and the sole of her boots. Selina observed the scene below: ski masked thugs walked around with guns, others were sitting on computers and control panels, handling their evil machines. In the middle of the room was a kidnapped civilian tied to a chair by her wrists and feet. Her hair was as white as her skin, pale from fear, and also had silver highlights. The pipe made a ting as Selina's roommate Jen came down beside her.
Jen had secretly followed Selina since the minute she heard the news. The criminals here had stolen machinery and other ingredients needed to make a weapon of destruction. But that wasn't what had brought Selina here. This evil scheme was of such grand proportions, it required equally greater security force to be dealt with.
Unimaginably, that was what had driven the world's most sought after catburglar to be involved with this. Jen had the perfect view of Selina's blindspot from where she was sitting. And that wasn't just a spot, it was a wall. An electrified wall, that had the three most famous members of the Justice League, captured in locks Superman couldn't melt, Wonderwoman couldn't break, and The Batman couldn't pick. And he was the one who Catwoman had come for: Batman.
"Quietly, Jen. Quietly." Selina turned and scolded.
"Sorry," Jen apologized, but Selina saw right past her best friend, and Jen clenched her eyes and tilted her head in resignation. Damn! Selina saw them.
Selina smirked, and Jen knew it was going to be bad.
"Selina, don't" Jen tried to reason as Selina prepped to jump, but Catwoman did jump, and all Jen could do was whine after her.
Selina swung back on her heels, doing a gymnast landing in the middle of the room. All guns aimed at her, and there was a loud growl of anger, disapproval, and worry. Selina smiled, almost blushing, knowing who's growl it was.
"Now, now. Guns down." The boss's voice entered the room before the room was cleared for him. He didn't wear a ski mask, but a suit, as if he had a meeting at Wayne Enterprises an hour after he was done here.
"The Catwoman is on our side. She's a criminal. But what I don't understand is what brings the world's best thief to our humble gathering?"
The boss walked a circle around her, the guns still ready to fire. He stopped behind her and walked closer, reaching a hand out from behind her and caressing her face. Selina closed her eyes and again there was a threatening growl, which caused the boss to jerk his face up and look across him to the wall. Where the Batman was tied up, struggling to break free.
The boss smiled and walked around her, stopping when he stood between the two. He looked back and forth from the both and smirked.
"You care about her!" He said as he walked slightly over to the Dark Knight, stepping back when the hero jerked forward towards him. The boss then turned towards his men.
"The Batman, cares about the Catwoman! You're here for him." He teasingly smiled at Selina, then anger stitched across his face and he walked backwards, his arms wide at his side, motioning at his men.
"Over there dead bodies." The henchmen ran at Selina and Jen involuntarily, jumped down and landed beside Selina, ready to fight. The men were more, and bigger than the two girls combined, but they eventually beat the ski masks out.
Catwoman picked herself off a knocked out thug, and spat at her side. She walked over to the boss, who shrank back, but Selina walked away from him without a word. She walked towards the girl tied on the chair, stopping to look at her and then at The Batman, who motioned for her to help the girl. The boss noticed.
"Your boyfriend wants you to be a hero. Save the civilian." He teased.
Selina walked circles around the girl, and Jen stared at her, unsure of what her friend was doing. She heard a growl, an angry growl, now directed at her. Selina stopped at the girl's side, staring at the scar that started above her brow and ran under her eye. The scar similar to the injury Selina had given that one girl long ago for hurting her friend, Bruce Wayne. The girl tied to the chair, was Silver St. Cloud. And there was no way in hell, she was here as a hostage.
"You can keep her," Selina walked over to the cover boss, "I don't suppose that you have the choice to otherwise, since Miss Silver here is the real boss of this whole charade."
The hostage, Silver, stopped whimpering and a smirk played on her face. She looked aside Selina at Jen, smiling at her.
"Aw, I see you have a friend." Silver broke out of her restraints, with minimal effort of course.
"You should be careful when you're friends with Selina. She's such a good liar, it almost makes itself the truth. She could take advantage of your friendship and you wouldn't even know it."
"All signs point to it, you are the better friend." Selina faked a pout.
"Jealous?"
"Why should I be? Bruce doesn't love you." Selina pointed out the cold hard truth.
Anger twitched on Silver's face and she punched Selina from the side of her head, sending her spinning off her feet. Selina landed on the palms of her hand, and smirked as she spat out blood.
"Never would I have ever thought I would be fighting a girl over Bruce Wayne."
Jen moved forward, but so did the ski masks.
"At least he didn't judge my character and throw me out of his life!" Silver yelled and lunged at Selina, but the thief side-stepped, making Silver glide across the floor like a fool.
"Ok then, round two. Bruce, Silver is the daughter of an evil family and played you to trap you in their generations old plot to kill you." Selina mocked.
Silver screamed and kicked Selina hard in the leg, but she stopped herself from a face plant and swept her leg behind her, knocking Silver to the ground. Taking a look around, she saw that none of the ski masks came to aid their boss. Selina smiled.
"Guess that little finger of yours lost its pull."
Silver attacked Selina, and the girls fought till Silver pulled out her whip. (I can't think of a girls fight w/out a catfight) (i could take suggestions).
"I see your aunt lent you her whip,"Selina teased and uncoiled her own.
Having grown up with Tabitha Galavan, Silver turned out to be the master of the whip and easily beat Selina at her own game. As Selina recoiled from a loss, Silver kicked in the stomach, sending her flying into the pillar. Jen ran at Silver, but was captured by the criminals, and Batman pulled at his restraints, growling in effort and in anger. Silver coiled her whip on her arm and strode over to Selina, pleased at her victory. She leaned over her to gloat, but Selina wrapped her arms around Silver's neck, locking her opponent's head between her elbows. Selina kicked Silver in the head with her knee then bashed her against the wall, knocking Silver out for good.
The criminals were shocked and angered, and let go of Jen, who went unnoticed as she ran to the control panel. Selina stood up and rested her hands on her knees, wheezing for breath.
"Alfred, owes me, fifty bucks," She laughed, remembering her bet with the butler. Selina finally turned to face the audience, but her smile dropped when she stared down the barrels of all the guns in the room pointing at her. Jen was furiously typing in codes to override the controls, and looked up a second before the silence broken by multiple 'pews' and her own screams.
Selina, in her tired out state, could do nothing but stand there as the bullets came flying at her. She buried her face in her shoulder to look away as the bullets came, but none hit her. Rather, she heard the impact of the bullets to something else, like the sound of heavy rain drops falling on an umbrella. Selina opened her eyes, yet still all she could see was the darkness she saw behind her closed lids. It finally registered to her that someone was holding her, protecting her. Her hands rested on a wall of kevlar, and she realized who it was: Batman. Jen had apparently broken through the firewall just as the criminals pulled the trigger, and the heroes dropped out of their restraints and ran for the bad guys. The noises of the guns outside her cover receded under the cries of anger and terror, and fists landing on bodies.
The Batman, certain that Selina was no longer a target, straightened himself up, pulling his cape back behind him. He grabbed Catwoman by her shoulders and pulled her to her feet, but her legs trembled and she rested her hands against his chest to hold herself up.
"See, I'm not a bad friend," she whispered and fell unconscious, and Batman quickly braced his arms behind her, sweeping her up into his arms.
"You never were, Selina. You never were."
