-Chapter 4

I woke up to my mental alarm, ready for today's events to take place. I looked over to see Alex still sleeping. I really didn't want to wake him up. He looked so peaceful. I frowned

Moonlight still showed through the window of my chambers, lighting up the room ever so slightly.

I quickly pulled out a bag from under my bed, and looked around for things that I could take with me. My expression was blank. It was broken as I stuffed clothes, food, and water in the bag. We would need more food and water than clothing though, so I only packed a few articles of clothing.

Before I knew it, a tear had rolled down my cheek. Why was I crying? Maybe because I was leaving my life long friends for a love life, or maybe it was because my life long friends would want to kill Alex. Either way, they were both horrible things, but I knew what I had to do. I hoped this was the right thing to do, at least.

I folded up two blankets and placed them in the bag, then I turned toward Alex, who was still sleeping peacefully.

"Alex.." I whispered, crawling over to him. I placed a hand in his arm. "Alex!" I whisper yelled. Alex groaned, opening his chocolate eyes. "J-John...?" He mumbled questioningly. "Yeah, it's me," I sighed. "We- we have to leave this place.." I frowned. "W-Why?" He raised an eyebrow. "They'll try to k-kill us.." I whispered, feeling heartbroken. "T-They are.. j-just.. jealous.." he mumbled tiredly. I looked at the floor. "Will you come with me, Alex?" I asked, glancing back at the small boy.

He sighed, then nodded. I slightly smiled the best I could. "I've packed everything we need. I have blankets to," I said, helping him up as gently as possible. His legs were still unstable, but he managed. He nodded slowly, gripping into my arms.

"We need to get out as quickly as possible to make sure they don't catch us," I looked out the window at the huge full moon. "By the looks of it, it's probably about 1:00, or 2:00." I said.

"W-We need.. go" he said quietly. I nodded. "I'll carry the stuff. I'll even carry you I feel you want me to.." I said, picking up the bag, and tossing it over my shoulder. "I tell you.. if need.." he mumbled. I nodded. Comprehending his words was easy for me. He'd always been a man of words. Through his poems, or when he spoke. His English now wasn't horrible, and most of everyone could comprehend it. Maybe that would make people believe he wasn't the monster people say he is. He's not like them.

I opened the door slowly, and peeked out to make sure there wasn't anyone in the hall. It was dark, and quiet. There was a loud ringing in my ears, but I ignored it. Alex followed close behind, stumbling every now and then.

As we reached the door, no one had woken up. Much to our likeness.

I opened the main door, the metallic smell of blood quickly filling my nose. By now I was mostly use to it, but it was stil disgusting. I looked back to make sure Alex was with me, which he was. He glanced at me for a quick second, sending me a tired smile. I smiled warmly back. I would protect this boy with all of my heart.

I put a protective arm around him, his body nearly freezing. Whatever warmth in his blood that was left was trying to equal out with the cold dead blood. Resulting in fever. Yes, this was a 'normal' fever for his kind. It wasn't anything serious. Just his body trying to regulate the temperature of his blood. Which meant he had a chance at being completely human again. That was good.

I felt my side to make sure my gun was still in its pocket, just in case I felt like I needed protection. It was there. Good.

I heard a breathy moan from about a few yards away. There was an old hut, vines growing all over it. I guided Alex away from it, scared of what would be in there.

We made our (accidentally puts "We made out" dammit) way out of the forest, a good ways away from our old base. I didn't miss them. I couldn't miss them now.

I looked up from the ground to see a huge building. It seemed to be a house. I wondered if anyone had claimed it yet.

I looked at Alex. "Should we go in?" I asked. He shrugged slowly. "I-If.. want?"

I nodded, feeling my chest tighten.

We walked up to the entrance of the house, before hearing a sudden crash..
