Chapter 2- Play A Game
(~Your POV + Time Skip Next Day~)
'RUN! RUN! RUN! RUN! RUN! OH MY FREAKING GOD!!!'
My legs and lungs feel like they're on fire. Am I even breathing? Doesn't matter, it's after me. SOMEONE is chasing me!
The snow crunches beneath my feet, yet I can hear the sound a few feet behind me. I don't even dare turn around. I only need to RUN!
I spent the night in a small cave. It took me until morning to fall asleep, still thinking about what I saw last night. When I eventually did get to sleep, I got woken up by a small shifting sound. I turned to find that glowing target from before lurking in the darkness behind me. Ever since then, it's been a wild goose chase.
I don't know where to go. All I'm passing is trees, snow, and ice. THERE IS NOWHERE TO HIDE! The footsteps behind me stop.
'Is it gone?'
All of a sudden, a figure blocks my path, jumping right in front of me. I scream at the top of my lungs, terrified as I try to stop. My foot slips from under me on a patch of ice, throwing me back. Pain shot through my entire back as I slammed into the ground. What was worse? I hit my head, the ice cracking under the pressure.
It feels like I broke my skull open.
I groan, holding my hands on my head. "Ouch, quite the slip-up. You should be more careful." A deep voice muttered.
'It talks.'
As much as I didn't want to, I decide to face whoever this is once and for all.
A short skeleton stands above me, his hands hidden in the pockets of his dull blue jacket. His eye sockets are pitch black, narrowed as he stares at me. It looks like a black liquid is dripping from them. For some reason, he finds my fall funny, proof being that unnerving smile he has.
Hovering in front of his chest, there's the red target, the one I saw twice.
'Great, now I know exactly where to punch him for scaring me like that.'
As I slowly sit up, he continues talking, "Y'know, I'll give it to ya that you're pretty quick. Haven't had to run that much since Alphys tried to escape."
'Who? What?'
This dude is half my height but not gonna lie, what makes him terrifying is that he looks perfectly capable of being a creepypasta. I scoot back from him, trying to find my voice.
'How is this guy alive?!'
He notices and steps towards me, smiling wide, "Oh come on sweetheart, don't be so quick to judge." "Y-You stalked me a-a-and then chased me. That's a perfectly good reason to judge." I stutter, my words not sounding confident in the slightest.
He stops, "I was trying to introduce myself. It's not my fault you made this difficult." "I don't know what kind of culture you follow but you are way off." I mumble.
"It's always when they're cornered when they suddenly choose to have a back bone. I'm not scared of you so drop the act." He remarks, not phased at all.
Against my will, my body starts shaking. I can't stand looking him in the eyes, I just can't.
"The name's Sans, Sans the skeleton. What's your name?" "Y/N." I reply, hesitant. I don't like the idea of giving my name to a weird stranger that happens to be a living nightmare. His mood is hard to read though. I can't afford to do anything else in this situation that would put me on his bad side.
"Y/N. Ice to meet you. Let's play another round."
'Play?'
Sans pulls out a kitchen knife from his pocket, casually swinging it around as he talked, "We've played Tag. Now it's time for Hide and Seek. I'll give you 5 minutes to find somewhere to hide. If I find you in.. hmmm... Let's say 10 minutes, to make it a challenge for me. Anyway, if I find you-" He laughs, holding the knife up to his neck as he states in toneless voice, "Y O U' L L B E D E A D."
'HECK, HE'S A PSYCHO!'
Don't have to tell me twice, I wAnT To LIVE!
(~Time Skip~)
My heart is throbbing, sitting up in this towering tree. I managed to climb it, at the expense of scraping my limbs on the tough bark until they were sore. An intense adrenaline rush can help people do and endure many things.
I stay up here for what seems like forever. I haven't heard anything for a while which made this even more difficult. I try to keep my breathing to a minimum and stay calm, despite the ever-growing migraine bouncing around in my head.
I shouldn't make any sound that could give my position away, heavy breathing included.
It's so cold, I turned three shades paler. I've lost most of the feeling in my hands. Being elevated up here leaves me completely open to the freezing, rigid air.
'It's better than being stabbed, Y/N.'
I try convincing myself that'll it be over soon. That'll be true whether Sans finds me or not. Who the heck dropped him as a kid? He's lost his mind!
'What happens if he doesn't find me? I get to live but then what?'
I don't want to know. I'm so tired. Too tired. I didn't sleep at all.
"HEY, YA WON!" Sans' screaming echos through the empty forest.
'Is it a trick?'
...
I let out a sigh.
'Might as well come down. It'll take me a few extra minutes to get out of the tree anyway.'
Looking down, doubt overrides my plan. I'm really high up. My arms and legs are messed up and the adrenaline rush I had is long gone.
'I can't get down.'
(~Another Time Skip~)
It's been quiet, Sans must've left. Gave up searching for me? Most likely.
The cold weather made the numbness worsen and spread throughout my limbs. I don't think I can move. Breathing is becoming more of a straining task now.
'I need to get to a safe place. I need warmth.'
"Heh, so that's where you've been." I flinch, turning to the side. Sans is sitting on a nearby tree branch, blankly staring at me.
I groan, turning away from me, "You need to stop doing that." "It's been almost an hour. Didn't ya hear me call you? Are you stuck?" Not wanting to admit I need his help, I growl, "Go away. I'm done playing."
"Well, I would've preferred ending your life on solid ground but if you insist-" I sit up straight, screaming at him, "HOLD ON! NO!"
Sans smirks, "I don't take orders from you." "No! I beat you, so why would you kill me anyway?!"
He chuckles, "You seriously thought I was going to let you live? I'm bored." I get really mad and desperate, shouting, "NO! SANS, YOU LISTEN TO ME! I DON'T CARE IF YOU'RE BORED OR NOT. IF WE'RE PLAYING GAMES, YOU'RE GONNA PLAY FAIR!"
The branch that was supporting me creaks for a few seconds before giving out. I scream as I free fall out of the tree.
Sans appears out of thin air, standing in the snow. With one snap of his fingers, I suddenly come to a stop, levitating a few feet above the snow. There's a blue glow but I can't tell where it's coming from. My breathing is out of control, definitely hyperventilating.
Sans' expression is neutral, his smile gone, "You've got guts. Normally I'd see people like you as a threat. But fine, if it'll make you feel better, I'll play fair. You get your prize. You live until we play tomorrow."
Writer~San: . . . For first impressions, I think that went quite well. They're playing together already. Lol Anyway, hopefully I'll see y'all in the next chapters.
