(~Your POV~)
[-Before Book Ending-]
Killer keeps his concentration set on packing his bags. "I'm sorry Y/N but Boss said that he can't confirm if Chara's dead or alive. He wants all of us to stay with him for a bit until he can guarantee that it's safe. You know the other guys will be there too." I sigh, letting out some aggression by harshly zipping up my suitcase. I grumble, "It's not Dust or Horror I have a problem with, Sans! It'S HiM." I sit on the edge of the bed, staring down at my lap.
Killer looks to me with a blank gaze, "You don't like Boss." I look up to him, releasing my feelings in raised volume, "He tried to kill me! TWICE! I still have the scars to prove it!! He did horrible things to you a-and.. I couldn't see you.." Tears well up in my eyes as I tightly grip onto the side of the bed.
The recent battle brought itself back to mind, one fought with Nightmare. Then, Chara involved herself at the same time. I nearly died. Everything was chaos. Worse of all, I could've lost Sans. It's only been a week and I find myself plagued with self blaming nightmares on what could've happened if I messed up. Or the tragedies I could've avoided if I'd done things sooner.
Killer gives me a small side glance and then sees my tears. His face softened and so does his voice as he approached me, "Shh.. Sweetheart.."
Embarrassed, I quickly rub away the tears rolling down my cheeks. "I don't trust him, Killer. What if he changes his mind? What if he decides to tear us apart again?" I whine, clenching my teeth together. "He won't." Killer takes a break from packing his things and leans into my side.
"He already did it once." I was quick to make the remark, mixed with a slight growl. Sans sighs, holding his hand to his skull, "N/N, everything he did was to protect me. Now things are different. He wants to protect you too. Boss could've ordered that I go alone but instead he invited you to stay with me."
'He could be planning to skewer me as soon as I step through the door.'
"But Ink said-" Killer's dull white pupils come into form as he snaps at me, "Is that what this is really about? Do you only see us as what the Star Sanses told you?!"
'I made a mistake-'
I hurriedly stand from my seat and take a long look at Sans. He looks mad, but not the raging type. Rather, Sans looks heartbroken. I hold one hand over his cheek and stumble over my own words, "N-No! It's noT thAt-" He turns away from me. In a panicked effort to stop him from being mad at me, I apologize, "I-... I'm sorry.."
"Then give Boss a chance.." He mutters.
(~Time Skip~)
Nightmare's place is nothing like I imagined it. That goopy octopus has a freaking castle! I was immediately overwhelmed by its size and dark scheme. Did he get his inspiration from the daily "how to decorate your haunted mansion" magazine? Spikes and blades seem to decorate every inch of it. The doors to the ruins from Killer's world seemed like mere toys compared to the front doors on Nightmare's castle.
Killer had to take a special portal to get here, because the au rift is supposed to be hidden or something like that??? The concept of the multiverse is still new to me, so I'd rather not ask than fry my brain.
"It'll be okay, N/N. It's only for a couple days." Killer reminds me. I understand he wants me to keep calm but my anxiety only escalated when Sans knocked on the door. As the time for us to go inside got closer and closer, my heart sunk further.
'I'm going to die here.'
The door slowly opened, followed by a gasp and excited scream, "Human! You made it!" I look up in a heartbeat, "Wait. BLUE!?"
Blueberry Sans smiled, his pupils shifting to stars as he squeezed me in a loving hug. Killer chuckles, readjusting the hold on the backpack over his shoulder, "Nice to see you again, Blueberry."
After receiving a hug from Blue, the three of us stepped inside. Horror is already noticable, standing off to the side of the entrance. Being the second one to greet us, Horror teases us with a wide smile, "Heyyyyy, the adorable couple's here~" Killer pulled up one side of his hood to shield his blushing face from Horror, grumbling, "Shut up."
I laugh nervously, squishing Horror in a tight hug, "Horror! Hi! .. Erm.. How's your neck?" Pulling away, he flinched before tracing his fingers over the freshly replaced bandages. Sweat beads down his skull and his eye darts to the floor, "It's fine. Seriously, Y/N.. There's no need to plague yourself with it.."
'BuT I fEEL REaLLy bAd!'
I hear Blueberry laugh, drawing our attention away from the conversation and back to Blue and Killer. "Mweh heh heh! Don't worry, I can take your bags!" Blueberry insists. Then, he took the suitcases/bags from Killer and ran ahead. Pricked again by curiosity, I turn to Horror, "Are Dream and Ink here too?"
He shakes his head, casually staring as Blue disappeared down one of the halls. "Nah, Blueberry's the only one." "Why? I thought-" Horror interrupts me with a chuckle, "To put it simply, he's Dust's plus one. Swap Sans already comes by regularly, so Boss allowed it."
Horror suddenly paused, his smile fading as he continued, "Blue's known for being real freaking positive around others, but there are times he needs to take off that mask. I mean it. He NEEDS to. He has some real issues with anxiety and self esteem. Blue could drive himself insane like us if he didn't get the chance to let go of that pressure. We all love Ink, but he doesn't have a soul. Without true emotions, sometimes he can go too far... Makes Blue feel like he's not deserving of an opinion or just a break.."
(~Your Memory~)
"That's exactly the point, Y/N! It's been a month. We have been patrolling the aus since then. We do know that Killer never went to look for you. Nightmare has probably already reverted him back to the emotionless, insane mind he was before. You may not have abandoned him, but he's already forgotten you."
Out of rage, I slapped Ink across the face. Dream gasps and stepped in between us, "Y/N wait!" Dream tried to stop the argument altogether, but I definitely wasn't done with him.
I rebuke Ink at the top of my lungs with tears threatening to fall down my face, "YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO SPEAK FOR HIM! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT HE'S BEEN OR GOING THROUGH! DID YOU EVEN BOTHER GOING INTO THAT HOUSE?!"
Ink's pupils have lost their shape and color, staring at the floor with two dull white dots. He won't look at me which angered me even more. Did he not even care about how I felt?
(~End Memory~)
I self consciously hug my arms around myself, depressed by the memory. Killer sensed my mood and lovingly locked his arm with mine. I take a deep breath and mumble to Horror, "Yeah, I understand what you mean..."
Now, I can't help but start to feel terrible over Blue. I always noticed how he overworked himself or acted on his absolute best behavior when he was around me. I always assumed he was in a good standing mentally. But I never asked either.
Killer stays by my side, giving me comfort by just his presence. I heard him speak up after Horror, "You can't say any of this to Ink or Dream, Sweetheart. Blue's little visits are kept quiet for a reason. He really does enjoy working with them, and we don't want to interfere with that while he's here."
"Ah, great. Everyone's here." Nightmare appears out of nowhere, scaring the life out of me. Without thinking, I found myself jumping l in front of Killer as if protecting him. My soul is really about to do anything to keep him out of harm's way. Killer steps around me, confusedly tilting his head, "Um.. Y/N?"
'I won't let Nightmare hurt him. Not again. NeVeR-'
Nightmare only gave me a blank stare in return. His tentacles mindlessly sway behind him like a cat's tail. He sighs and rolls his one eye light, saying, "I can assure you, Human, that kind of behavior won't be necessary. Now, hand over your phone-" "So I can't call for help?" I interrupt him with a sharp remark and glare. "Y/N!" Killer raises his voice, trying to stop me.
Nightmare holds a hand up to Sans before responding to me, "Precisely. I have no reason to trust that you won't send a text to lead Ink here, just as you have no reason to trust me either. I don't need that paint freak causing any trouble right now. Your device will be returned to you once I feel that I can trust you in my home."
"It really is for the best, Y/N. Boss knows what he's doing." Horror adds onto the conversation. Honestly, I was ready to snap. Is it too late to go back home? I can't possibly go and leave Killer here alone with him.
I only grew more frustrated as every scenario played out in my head. I can't trust him but I can't fight him either. Killer and Horror side with Nightmare even though the only suspicious person right here, right now, is him.
'They don't understand! Unlike him, I don't try to murder people!'
My train of thought suddenly comes to a stop as it does a quick reassessment.
'I.. I did try to kill them. I hurt Horror. Chara was in my mind but I never tried to stop her. Afterwards, it was Nightmare that helped to fight her off.'
I let out a long sigh. My soul feels defeated and guilty above all else. I couldn't bear to make eye contact with them after that. It's not like they could hear what I was thinking, but I still felt embarrassed as if they had. Out of options, I pulled my phone out of my pocket and handed it to him. One of Nightmare's tentacles grabbed it from me and pulled closer to him. The dark skeleton looked it over for a brief moment before placing it into his goopy jacket's pocket. Pouting like a little kid, I huff and turn away from him.
'You didn't even say thank you.'
Things were silent for a while as both Horror and Killer stared at me with a empathetic expression. They understood how I could be so angry, but they also couldn't agree with me. Growing nervous of the silence, Killer was the first to speak up. "Where's Dust?" "He's in his room. His world just went through another genocide run and Phantom hasn't 'shown up' yet. I know he'll make a lot of noise, but I suggest you leave him be."
'Dust's world has a Chara? Phantom's missing too? ... Poor thing... As if he wasn't hurt enough..'
Horror looked away with an uncomfortable stance and Killer just nodded in agreement. "You called everyone here. Does that mean.. Cross and Error are here too?" Killer mutters. Nightmare's tentacles turned rigid as he replied, "They are....."
'Huh? Who's Cross?'
(~Killer's POV + Time Skip~)
I quietly watched Y/N having a good time. Her and Horror always got along from the start so I didn't doubt he'd be the first to keep her entertained. Horror and Blueberry are introducing her to Cross in the living room, who gave them a very bamboozled look to hear about the secrets and chaos he missed. Blueberry kept getting up from his seat, pacing back and forth in front of the couch as he told most of it. Horror couldn't keep a smile off his face as Cross' confusion grew more and more.
Error only sat there and rolled his eyes, interrupting Blue constantly when he felt that Blueberry wasn't telling the story accurately. Although, we all know he just didn't want Cross to know how Y/N outsmarted him in a fight. Horror was surely confident enough to flaunt it too, earning a couple bruises when Error would reach over the couch and smack him. Y/N is completely flustered, bashfully hiding her face in a throw pillow every time she had to be included. Like the kindhearted human she is, N/N was the one to keep Horror and Error from killing each other, even if it meant downgrading her skills in front of Cross just to keep Error satisfied.
It's all actually quite fun to watch. Ten minutes turned into an hour as I listened to them play out the story. Moreover, I just loved seeing Y/N enjoy herself. She's been finding it very hard to adjust and relax after everything that happened. At least she can do it here and I can see her smiling again.
I hear Boss approach and stand beside me. His hand softly pats my head, grabbing my full attention, "You showed her around?" "Mhm. She's very impressed. I also made sure to keep clear of Dust's corridor."
"Very good.. You wanted to talk?"
'Right... I nearly forgot..'
"Yeah.. Dust's situation got me thinking.." I take a shaky breath in, trying to keep myself from getting overwhelmed too quickly, "If the kid decides to reset.. I was.. thinking..... Could you.." "You want me to bring the human here." Nightmare finishes my thought, overlooking the group messing around on the couch.
'If I lose control of myself and I hurt her again.. I could never forgive myself..'
Completely silent, I stuff my hands into my pockets and keep my head down. Maybe it's too much for me to ask of him. I already don't deserve anything Boss has done for me. Countless tears fall down my cheeks, but I don't have any power to stop them. My eye blazes in a bright red glow. I take a strained breath in, grabbing at my skull. My soul starts to jerk and warp, losing stability as a migraine starts beating into my skull.
'Migraine, you son of a- !!!!'
Boss' tentacles pull me to his side, both his arms and tentacles wrapping around me in a warm embrace. He speaks to me in a soft and assuring tone, "Calm down. It's fine."
Clenching my teeth, I turn and silently cry while completely looking down at the floor. Holding my breath by keeping a hand over my mouth, my pained whimpers are kept muffled. Boss keeps his back turned to the others, respectfully hiding me from their view. Black tears roll over my hand, dripping onto the floor. Boss keeps me held in a hug, patient and not disturbed by my meltdown at all. Still, I feel utterly pathetic. Why does it always have to end up like this? I can't stop freaking crying! "I'm sorry, Boss. I know you say that crying is a weakness.. I'm soRRy.." I wince, tightly grabbing into the fabric of his jacket.
He lets out a long sigh, comfortingly rubbing my back, "You don't have to worry about the human. Error can keep me updated on your au's status. Worst case scenario, I'll make sure she's taken care of. As for your emotions, I'm sure I can allow it.. Just this once.."
My soul is suddenly coaxed to a calmer state, causing all pain in my skull and eye socket to subside. I don't have to think twice to know that it's a effect of Boss' passive magic. He doesn't like to express himself in words, but does more in his silent actions.
Boss doesn't use it much in front of outsiders like Dream or Ink. Though, the group of us that do know about it are convinced: it proves that the passive side of Nightmare (Writer~San: Before being corrupted) isn't truly gone. More importantly, it shows how much he truly cares.
(~Your POV + Another Time Skip~)
"Dust isn't joining us for dinner?" I ask worriedly, staring at the empty seat across the gigantic table. This room definitely looks like it's fit for royalty, as does everything in this place. The chairs are so huge and menacing. The Bad Sanses are a perfect representation of children sitting at the grown up's table. The dining room has a fireplace at one end of it, specifically behind Nightmare's seat.
'Makes sense that he'd want to sit there.'
His one eye shifts to me, "He's not doing well, but he's allowed to join us if he wishes to. I ordered that Horror leave a plate by his door. After dinner, I'll go check on him myself to make sure he eats." Killer speaks up, assuring me, "We know how isolated he can be, but sometimes it's for the best. I can explain it more in detail later."
"For right now, we should appreciate this delicious meal Horror and Blue have prepared for us. Hurry, before it gets cold." Nightmare demands, taking the first bite of our taco dinner.
Blue shrinks in his seat, his exhausted gaze staring down at his plate, "Scary me said he had never tried them, so I had to do something." I eagerly give him a compliment, "Your tacos are magnificent, Blueberry. Don't be so modest." One seat over, Horror was completely stuffing himself with two whole plates of tacos. I think his opinion counts a lot more than any of us. I couldn't help but giggle when seeing him.
'Horror is the happiest skeleton alive as long as he gets food.'
Eating my share of tacos was delightful, and I hope it helped Blue to cheer up. As the day went on, I definitely saw his personality change. The 'mask' slowly came off, as Horror had mentioned. The bags under his eyes were most noticeable. Still, he tried to keep a smile on his face.
'He just needed somewhere that he could run away.. And Nightmare.. Nightmare doesn't reject him..'
Blue wasn't the only one I was learning more about. From what Ink and Dream always spoke about, Nightmare was sadistic and unforgivable. Dream liked to think Nightmare was his brother, but still always compared to him as if he was a completely different person. Though, I remembered how I came to know Killer, Horror, Dust, and even Error..
'They all have two sides..'
It will take me some time to trust Nightmare, but I can see I may have judged him a little too quickly. Speaking of Killer, I haven't really seen him do much all day.
'He always isolated himself from the group. Is something wrong?'
I turn to my potential soulmate, watching him silently enjoy his meal. I exhale briefly, then wrap an arm around him. At first, Sans flinches at my touch. Next, he turns his head to face me, "Need something, N/N?"
I smirk and press a lingering kiss to the top of his skull, "No, it's nothing. Love you." "OoOoOO-" Horror coos, snickering afterwards. Killer's cheeks and target representing his soul glow ten shades redder. Annoyed by the usual teasing, Killer growls and stands up, pointing his knife at Horror, "IF YOU DON'T SHUT UP-"
I grin mischievously. While he was temporarily distracted, I just got an idea.
'I haven't gotten the chance to mess with him in a while~'
I pull Sans into my lap, snuggling him. I whisper seductively, "Who cares if he sees? You want them to see how much I love you, don't you~" Killer whines, his entire face turning red. The easiest thing I can compare it to is that I broke him. "HE CRASHED JUST LIKE THE GLITCHFEST OVER THERE- PFFFHAHAHA!" Horror starts laughing so hard at Killer's expression, it wasn't long until he rolled out the chair. Blue held a gloved hand over his mouth, trying hard to hide his smile.
Error stands up from his seat while rolling his eyes, "A-AnD I jUsT l-l-loSt m-my apPeTiTe!" "I better see you eating breakfast tomorrow." Nightmare warns him. "DoN't t-te-teLL mE wHaT to d-D-Do! I-It's bAd enOuGh b-b-be-BeINg tRaPpEd h-H-Here wIth aLL of Y-Y-YoU!" Error yells, walking out and slamming the dining hall door behind him.
After Error left, Horror continued to laugh even harder. On the contrary, Nightmare stares at me and Killer. I can't tell whether he's chill or wants to stab me. Even though his mood seems casual, his natural glare shattered my confidence the moment our eyes met. Overcome with regret and hardcore embarrassment, I turn away and release a very flustered Killer from my grip. "Nevermind.."
(~Time Skip~)
I sigh, folding back the blankets on Killer's oversized bed. Sans is on the other side of the room, changing into some black pajamas.
'Nightmare had fancy clothes made for them too?!'
They look like they're made from silk. This whole day has made me curious. I just have to ask...
"Sans. If Nightmare lets you guys stay here, why even go back to your aus?"
Killer turns around, buttoning his shirt to hide his ribcage, "Well, Horror has to stay with his brother. Dust is convinced that he has to stay and collect more LV if he wants to defeat Frisk. Error doesn't really like the idea of settling down, especially with other people. Cross already kinda lives here so.." He climbs into bed first, and I soon climbed in after. "Okay, but what about you? Couldn't you just stay here?"
He chuckles, "Trust me, I've already tried." "And?" "I got homesick. The castle's nice, but it doesn't beat Snowdin."
He smiles, cuddling close, "Besides, I never would've met you if I lived here." I hug my arms around Sans and share a kiss with him. My soul feels warm and full as I pull back, answering, "I guess you're right."
"So, what did you think of Boss?" I pout at him, not expecting the moment to take this direction, "Sans." His skull nuzzles into my hair. Next I hear him assure me with a gentle purr, "I know, I know~ I just saw how much you tried today. I was going to say that I'm proud of you."
"What about you? You were practically distant all day." I flip the tables on him. Killer tucks his face into my shoulder with a yawn. "Boss and I needed to.. talk about some things.." Two questions and Sans is three seconds away from dozing off. As puzzled as I am, I'm not going to get much more than that out of him. I decide to leave it alone for tonight. "Hm.. okay.."
'It's late, and it's probably not my business to pry anyway.'
Sans' subtle snoring came only moments after falling asleep next to me. I sigh, petting his head while pulling him close to my chest. "Sleep well.."
(~Time Skip~)
Tired as heck, I run my hands under the sink and splash my strained eyes with cold water.
I jolted awake into a panic attack again. If it wasn't for me hyperventilating and screaming my lungs out, Killer wouldn't be so paranoid right now. Chara's voice still taunted my soul, disturbing my sleep every night. Holding myself over the sink, I struggle to look up at the mirror while fighting with my tears. Killer is doing his best to comfort me, running his hand through my hair, "She's gone, Y/N. It's okay. I'm okay. Everything's fine. Just take some deep breaths for me."
With his other hand, Killer lovingly places his hand on top of mine, smoothly rubbing back and forth across the back of my hand. My trembling and shaky breathing make things ten times more difficult. It wasn't long before I started to feel lightheaded. I slowly slump down to my knees, pained whimpers escaping my throat. Killer staggers back and paces around the bathroom for a bit, unsure of what to do. Until his gaze locked on the door. His voice expressed how serious he was, stating, "Y/N, stay here. I'll go find Boss."
'WhA- I doN't NEeD hiS hELp!'
"SanS-" Killer pressed a kiss to my head and then rushed out without another word. Pain coursed through my head again, causing me to double over and claw at my hair.
'Why does Nightmare even need to be involved? What's he gonna do? End my life and by that, my misery? Glare at me?!'
Ever since we got here, all Killer can talk about is Nightmare. It made me feel shoved to the side. It's like I matter most until Nightmare walks into the room. Then, I'm second best. I don't understand why. Is there something between them and he never told me about it?
'I.. I need a walk..'
With a small grunt, I pulled myself up. The dizziness lingered, but it was something I could power through. I've done it before. The castle corridors were extraordinary, adorned with black velvet curtains and even magical weapons on display. I guess Nightmare had been collecting them.
Everything was quiet as I turned down each hall. I passed by Horror's chambers. I could hear his snoring through the walls, making me smirk. Horror can sleep through literally anything since he eats so much food at one time. Horror will probably be out cold until tomorrow afternoon, so I wasn't concerned that he'd hear me.
Error's corridor was dead quiet, strings wrapped all around the hall's nearby chandelier, ceiling, and on his bedroom door. It almost seemed like asking a spider to do the decorating. I held my breath while tiptoeing past. I really try to, but Error doesn't get along with me. Neither does he get along with pretty much anyone else. Waking him up is definitely the last thing I'd want.
Cross' hall was next. It scared the life out of me when after three seconds of walking past the door, it opened. I shrieked, jumping back. His pupils shrunk as he jumped too, "Y/N?!" I nearly fell down to the floor, hurriedly apologizing, "Oh my gosh, I'm s-so sorry for waking you! I-I-I-" "Y/N, I was already up. You don't need to apologize.." He states, staring down at the floor whilst he closed his bedroom door behind him.
'Oh..'
I felt a little more relieved, taking a deep breath in. Cross is wearing a white long sleeve shirt and some black silk pants. He stares at me awkwardly, holding his hand by his side while asking, "Uh.. Are you okay? You probably shouldn't be roaming around the castle this late." Instantly, I wave my hands in front of myself and answer as casually as I can muster, "I'm fine! I was just trying to find the kitchen... to get a midnight snack..?"
Cross looks me down before giving me a blank but serious stare, "Keep going down this hall and take a right before you reach Dust's room."
'Thank GoD it WoRkeD-'
"Does Killer know you're-" "I shOuLd Go, T-ThAnk yOu!" I yell, turning around and sprinting away as fast as I could. I could still feel Cross staring, but fortunately he didn't decide to follow me. Or at least, I didn't see him do it. In case he did follow in secret, I spent the next few minutes taking the route to the kitchen. Honestly, I wouldn't mind going there to get some water. Until I heard screaming and loud thuds from further down the hall..
'This hall leads to Dust's room.'
Worried for him, I rush down the corridor.
'What happened? Is he being attacked?!'
I got there to see Blue rushing out of the room. He's hyperventilating, cuts bleeding from his skull and arms. A chair suddenly shoots through the doorway, hitting the opposite side of the hall and snapping into splinters. The small skeleton lost his balance and hit the floor with a loud yelp.
I run faster, reaching Blue and crouching down, "Blue, are you okay?!" Fear is etched into his shaking pupils as he looks up, "Y/N, look out!" My soul turns blue and I was thrown into the wall. Pain ached my spine as my brain scrambled to process everything.
'Wait, WhAt?!'
Dust chuckles softly, his eyes shining from the darkness of his room in a bright blaze of flames. "A human too? It must be my lucky day. Hehehe.." He stepped into the dimly lit corridor, having lost interest in Blue altogether. Now, his deathly sadistic eyes were set on me. It was only then that I saw the blade in his hand. It had blood dripping from it already, matching to the injuries on Blueberry.
"Dust?! WhA- WhAt aRe yoU doINg?!" I raise my voice, getting extremely worried. "Shhh, I promise I'll make it nice and quick. I'll make Papyrus proud. He'll understand. I had to. The kid won't stop. They'll never stop. With more LV, I can make it stop."
He holds his knife up above my soul, ready to plunge it into my chest. My breathing speeds up. I frantically try to struggle against his blue magic but I can't get away. Blue is trying his best to push himself up, screaming, "DUST STOP! WE'RE YOUR FRIENDS!" Dust ignores him, the sadistic smile growing on his face, "The pain will finally.. sTop.."
His blade swings down and I close my eyes, screaming..... But nothing happened.
Close to hyperventilating again, I open my eyes. Nightmare is behind Dust, his tentacles wrapped around him. One is tightly constricted around Dust's arm, holding it back. Nightmare spoke in a monotonous and hushed tone, "Dust, let's not do things that we're going to regret later.." The goopy skeleton places his hands on top of Dust's skull, "Look, it's Y/N." Nightmare looks to me. His pupil changes to a mix of cyan and purple, and his tentacles/hands emit a soft glow the same color(s).
Dust's pupils shrink, as if seeing me for the first time. I whimper through panicked breaths, "D-Dust?" His whole body begins trembling violently. The knife fell from his hand and hit the floor with a loud clang.
Nightmare continues to stand behind him, releasing hold of his arms and staying close when the poor thing fell to his knees. Dust grabs at his head, tears streaming down his face as he begins rambling to himself again. I could only catch pieces of it.
"Y/N. Y/N's here. Why? You lost control. Why won't it stop? It hurts. They won't stop. The screaming. It's too loud. I'm sorry. Papyrus. Pap, I had to. Please. I'm sorry. Traitor. Why? Murderer. Unforgivable. You killed them. Everyone's gone. It hurts. Where's Papyrus? Why isn't he here? He's gone. No. He can't. Stop. Make it stop."
My heart broke. I've never seen him like this. I feel powerless. There's nothing I can do to help him.
Nightmare lets out a long sigh. His tentacles wrapped around Dust like the arms of a parent, gently holding the troubled skeleton as he spoke, "Come on, Dust.. Everyone's worried about you. It's time for you to sleep now.." I watched as Dust's pupils changed color, cyan and purple, before going completely dull. His body went limp and his eyes forced themselves shut as he lost consciousness, falling back into Nightmare's arms.
Nightmare tilts his head slightly, speaking to Blue, "My apologies, I shouldn't of listened to him and let you stay in a separate hall." "N-No. It's okay. It was both of us that insisted.." Blue replies promptly, shakily rising to his feet.
"Horror should be able to heal those injuries. Go immediately." "Of course..! um.. thank you.. Goodnight." Blue replies. Walking past me, Blue gives a quick glance and speaks up, "I'm sorry, I couldn't-.. The only thing that matters is that you and Dusty me are okay. The Magnificent Sans will heal right up and everything will be back to normal tomorrow! I promise..! Please don't worry about me." I hurry and pull him into a tight embrace, scaring him at first.
"You matter too. Please be careful." I whisper. Blueberry thanked me, hiding his face and hugging back tightly before walking away. Nightmare lifts Dust into his arms, continuing to use this unknown trance magic until Dust was gently tucked in bed. I'm speechless.
'What just happened?'
Nightmare comes out minutes later and closes Dust's bedroom door. One tentacle grabbed me firmly by the arm as Nightmare pulled me behind him. He wasn't hurting me, and my brain is a little frazzled right now, so I didn't fight against it.
"Are you okay?"
.
Y-yeah.. Thank y-you for your help."
.
"You're not supposed to be up either. Killer's about to lose his mind looking for you."
.
"H-How did you find me?"
.
"Cross told me you went in this direction. Knowing your stupid crazy amount of curiosity, I knew you'd end up by Dust's chambers in one way or another."
.
"What did you do to him?"
Nightmare stops pulling me along and pauses. Next came the explanation, "Each and every one of these Sanses has been cast out and deemed unworthy by the multiverse and my good for nothing brother. The only reasoning behind that decision are their tortured minds. They had no control over their past, and it continues to haunt them every moment that they live. I can't heal them. I can't change their past. However, I can use the magic I was born with to ease them from that suffering when I can.."
I understand his reasoning, but something inside my heart can't put it together, "Killer turns into a psycho every time you 'help' him. He hates his emotions because of you." "He hates feeling emotion because of the destructive memories that tie to them. Killer can be quickly overwhelmed with hurt, mourning, and guilt. I merely take away those memories and feelings, but his insanity seemed to be the only thing that stayed behind... Until you came.."
I stayed quiet as he continued. "You managed to bring hope back to that lonely skeleton. His heart has really attached to you. The others have found happiness by your presence as well. When I first learned of you, I'll admit I was a bit hasty to jump to certain.. conclusions.. Error couldn't trace your origins, so I had no way of knowing if you were a spy or threat. I was convinced that if I allowed these relationships to continue, something would happen and you'd hurt their minds even further.. But it turned out just the opposite. Killer doesn't need me to help nearly as much as he used to, because he has you."
Nightmare silently reaches into his pocket before holding something out to me. My phone. "You may have this back. But you must promise me that you will never discuss this castle's location or what took place here with anyone else." "Yes Sir. Thank you.." I mumble politely, quietly grabbing it and avoiding eye contact.
I think I can finally start the process to understand Nightmare. He gets mad at The Star Sanses, because maybe they tend to overlook or judge the aus that actually need the hope? I don't know. I don't want to take sides too quickly. Point is that Nightmare genuinely cares for his boys, and that's fine with me.
'Dang it, Nightmare reminds me of a overprotective dad now-'
It wasn't long until we reached Killer's room. Before I could blink, Killer was already hugging me tightly. He definitely hasn't gotten any sleep now because of me. I sigh and hug back, apologizing, "Sorry for running off. I just wanted to clear my head."
He comforts me, stating softly, "That's okay. That will always be okay, Sweetheart. All I ask is that you tell me first or at least where you plan on going. Please." I nod in agreement. A smile of relief makes its way onto his face, before he leaned forward and gave me a soft kiss on the cheek. "Heh.. I forgot to say earlier at dinner. I love you too, so SO much." Killer says cheerily, nuzzling his face into my neck. I blush and whine, still being in Nightmare's presence.
'Killer's doing this to get back at me, isn't he? That or he's delirious- .... yeah, he's delirious..'
Nightmare steps closer with a narrowed gaze, his tentacles swaying with curiosity, "Now, back to why I'm here: Killer told me you haven't been sleeping.." I suddenly remember what Nightmare had done to Dust.
'Heck-'
I step back with Killer still in my arms, responding with a nervous smile, "N-No! I'm good. Thank you though." He arches an eyebrow, bluntly calling me out, "You have bags under your eyes." "DO I?! HAHaaA- NEVER NOTICED!" "Y/N, just let me-" "I'M FINE!" I squeal, my voice more high pitched than it's ever been.
