In The Case Of Phobeus Andouex, Paxis, You ARE the Father! *Screams*
"You don't know me! I'm not who you think I am!" He shouted, shoving the bigger man, but to no avail. He still stood there, more immovable than titanium. The other just folded his arms across his chest.
"Explain your last name then, Lucian Tristan Andouex!" Lucian cringed a little at the use of his full name.
"How the hell..."
"Did Laken even think about telling you? Of the rest of your family? He didn't tell me that you were even a thought in his mind until a few days ago. Do you've any idea how long I have searched for you? I fell from our father's realm because of you. The way he treated us, how he casted you down here at mere infancy. I loved you, Lucian, as I loved all our siblings, swore to protect them, all of them, even Laken. And now I have found you. The last piece to our messed up , broken jigsaw puzzle of a family. Has he even given you decent housing? A bed?" Silence. Phobeus continued still.
"I'm your brother, Lucian. And I've come to take you home. To a real home. Evangelina has been looking for you too. All of us. Your sister, brothers and I."
"Then why didn't'cha find me?" Came Lucian's empty retort. A pitiful attempt at a jab, a sneer. A scowl on his face. "Y'had all the time in the world."
"You think I did not try? I searched for centuries. Do you know how many black-haired, blue eyed children there were in the world? You had much more of a head start than me. You grew up so fast." There were tears in Phobeus' eyes. "I left Cinthu back there to raise and protect you. To keep my promise. I need you to understand. You don't have to sleep on the streets anymore. I want to take care of my brother."
"Because you feel responsible, not because you care."
"You know I don't feel that way. That's not how I think."
"Actually, I don't know you. You don't owe me anything, and vice versa."
"I helped stepmother birth you!"
"I can't help that."
"Would you rather have Laken take care of you? He is a drug addicted moron, and a prostitute. He cannot take care of you. He isn't even your legal guardian!"
"You can't prove that!"
"Yes, Lucian, I can. Our brother cannot even take care of himself, let alone an adolescent boy."
"Don't call me boy."
"You are younger than me by four-hundred years, Lucian. I am twenty one thousand years old, and every day of all those years I tried to find you."
"Prove it."
"I can and I will. Lucian. You are being stubborn, and it's bullshit, to put it bluntly."
"This conversation is bullshit! You don't own me! I'm not a dog!"
"I never said that! You know I didn't!"
"Like I said, I don't owe you anything."
"I know you don't. But I owe you. I couldn't find you. I was trusted to find you and raise you. And look what happened to you. Found by, quite possibly, the worst possible sibling you could've been found by."
"Yeah, I know Laken is a druggie, But weren't you also supposed to raise him?"
"He was raised by Vanacinth. Our oldest brother."
"Wait, you're not the oldest?"
"No, Lucian, I'm not. But someone has to pick up our father's slack. I raised Evangelina, Vanacinth raised Laken. I wanted to keep him, but Vanacinth threatened to take both of them away and return to our father and stepmother. That was not an option, so, I let Vanacinth take him, only for Laken to turn into what you know of him today."
"Our father? Stepmom?"
"Paxis. Paxis Anaximander Andouex. The leader of the Vampire Council, the scum of all things. And his first wife, Velara Andouex. She's everyone else's first mother, not mine. I was borne of a human woman. Her name was Leto. I was a constant reminder of her husband's infidelity, so she cast me out to live amongst the humans at sixteen. She didn't want the twins, Evangelina and Laken to be sent away, but they ran from her when they were small children, and she sent Vanacinth to retrieve them. They were found much sooner than you. You were sent away at mere infancy, she thought you an accident. I thought differently. That was the last straw for her, and for me. I left not only to find the twins, but to find you. I found them first, but Vanacinth tried to stop me from discovering your location."
"I can't believe any of this!"
"It's confusing, I know, but I need you to give me a chance. I don't want you to end up like Laken. I want to do what I promised you when you were born."
"Maybe. Give me time to adjust to this. I didn't even know you, or the fact that I had a family!"
"I can easily transfer the custody to me, Lucian. Just tell me when you'll make up your mind."
Lucian coughed. "Maybe. Like I said, give me time to think."
"Alright. I'll hold you to your word, Lucian." Phobeus smiled softly. "I'm glad to finally meet you, my brother. I only wish that we met sooner, and under better circumstances." He held out his business card, and said, "Call me when you make up your mind."
"Yeah." Lucian nodded, and walked away. Since he was suspended, he went home. Home being a shitty motel room. The room was lightly cluttered and small, but at least it had a bed. He'd had worse. He opened the door to find him. Laken. The only thing that he was certain of was that Laken, his druggie brother, occasionally visited him. Laken spoke first.
"So you met him." Laken slurred, a tone he often sported when he was drunk.
"Who?" Lucian pretended not to know of Phobeus. His chest heaved. He hated Laken.
"You know, Lucian. Don't pretend. Phobeus. The half-breed mistake of the family. The oh-so-successful, high and mighty surgeon." Laken growled, his teeth bared.
"So he told the truth, then." Lucian wondered aloud, a disapproving look on his face.
"That Vanacinth's a bastard?" Laken guessed, "If he said that, he told the truth. I mean, he would, wouldn't he? The goody-two-shoes always tells the fuckin' truth. How he gave me away... Sendin' me back woulda'been kinderrr..." He started to slur his words again, passing out on the mattress. Yup. Time to call Phobeus. He couldn't stand to see this picture again.
